Journal: Jesus, Model of Faith

1. Explain the major key idea from this section.

From this section, we begin to find God throughout our world and answer the question of whether he exists or not. Throughout the section, we find arguments that support the existence of God, but the biggest factor is Jesus himself. Through Jesus' teachings, we see the everlasting life of God and the divine truth. We see a world where there is no evil. With Jesus, we are able to live our lives more fully and in salvation.

2. Three Major Ideas

With the Anthropic Principle, the Natural World is presented as an argument for the existence of God. In our World, we there are so many values and figures that came together for our existence. If hydrogen and oxygen wouldn't have a bond, then water would not exist and organisms could not survive. If gravity had been a little less weaker, then humans would not be able to stand. There are many arguments that question if there is a God then why do bad things happen, but what about the fact that humans are here now able to live and function.

Another idea I want to remember from this section are the five inclinations: to seek happiness, to preserve humanity, to live in a community, to unite sexually, and to use our will and intelligence to seek truth. These inclinations are what man-made laws are based upon. In the United States constitution, there are connections to the five inclinations. They are apart of our human nature and we are naturally made to want them.

In the Mystery of Death, there is a tendency to believe that humans are afraid of death. Hundred's of years from now, my ancestors will not know my accolades or probably not even my name. If we know that our bodies will someday be decayed and rotten, then we have every right to be afraid. If death were the last part of our existence, then why did God create creatures that fear the reality of their own existence?

4. Who is Jesus?

I believe that Jesus is the ultimate teacher and martyr. Jesus died in order to save us from sin. He sacrificed his life for the people who were murdering him. When he could have escaped, he refused. When he could have gave in to the high priests, he refused. He knew that sacrificing his life would all of our lives. With his radical life and teachings, he taught a religion that has lasted for over 2000 years. His word is spoken in nearly every country in the world. His religion is still growing now. His word has transformed many lives and has helped billions of live life more fully. Through his teachings, he has helped humanity as a whole live morally better lives.
