Journal Seven: Called to Love
Gospel According to John and Revelation
1. What is the one key idea of this chapter. Pay attention to the title of the chapter.
The one key idea of this chapter is to love as Jesus did. Jesus taught us that love is the heart of Christian service. As Jesus did, loving one another is like washing the feet of another. When we love, we are called to serve one another. When Jesus revealed himself to the Samaritan woman, he showed that he loved someone unconditionally and broke the social and religious barrier of his time. When we are called to love, we are called to serve and do what is right.
2. Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.
a. In the story of Nicodemus, a Pharisee went through a process of faith. After Nicodemus saw some of the signs that Jesus performed, he wanted to meet him. After meeting Jesus, he was still confuseda bout who Jesus was. Gradually, he started to defend Jesus in the Sanhedrin and upon Jesus death, he assisted in getting Jesus body and even brought 100 spices to his burial, a sign of a royal burial. Nicodemus gradually waas revealed to Jesus light. I want to remember this because it is a process to becoming a Christian and walking with Jesus.
b. When Jesus knew his days were ending, he gathered a towel around his waist and washed the feet of his disciples. As Jesus was done washing their feet, he told them, So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anothers feet. Jesus wanted his disciples to lead by example. I want to remember this because I want to lead my life just as Jesus did. I want to lead by his example.
3. One image that captures the chapter for you.
4. One significant question that you have from this chapter.
Since I have done right and wrong, how do I know that I am in the light?
