1. What is the one key idea of this chapter? Pay attention to the the title of the chapter.
The key idea of this chapter is that Jesus is with us through suffering. Even in our hardest moments, Jesus is still with us in our hearts and in our minds. The first disciples of Christ had a difficult time embracing the suffering and trials that came their way. But Mark wrote his Gospel to give the disciples hope and to tell them that God would be witth them. Through suffering, God is with us.
2. Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.
a. One of the obstacles that Mark presented was blindness. Blindness is not just physical, it is also spiritual. In Mark, James and John are blinded by ambition and want to sit at the right and left of Christ. As a disciple, we are all equal and should not want to be the left and right of Christ. I want to remember this because I do not want to be blinded by false hope. I want to see Jesus clearly.
b. Another obstacle that Mark explains is weallth. In one story, Jesus was teaching and a wealthy man approached him and asked how he could inherit eternal life. Jesus replied to follow the commandments. After the man said he did that, Jesus said to sell all of his possessions and follow him. The man then grieved because he had many posssessions. I want to remember this idea because if I do not want to possess my possessions. I want to be able to follow Christ. I do not want my possessions to make up my personality. I want my love of Christ to show.
3. One image that captures the chapter for you.
4. One significant question that you have from this chapter.
Why is their suffering in this world?
