1. What is the one key idea of this chapter. Pay attention to the title of the chapter.

The one key idea of this chapter is the call to be like Jesus. In Matthew, Jesus was portrayed as a teacher. He taught his disciples to live with humanity and peace for one another. Jesus also taught against violence. In our society. There were people who lived according to Jesus like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Steven Biko, all giving their lives for their teachings. Matthew portrayed Jesus as a teacher of non-violence, teachings that are still present to this day in people who gave their lives like Steven Biko and Martin Luther King.

2. Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.

a. In the desert, Jesus was tempted for 40 days by the devil. He had many trials and challenges presented to him by the devil. If he would have given himself up to him, then he would have a kingdom to rule. But Jesus did not give in to the pressure and promises from the devil. Jesus chose to stay with his loving father. I want to remember this because I do not want to give in to the negative pressures of my society.

b. According to the teachings of Jesus, we are all brothers and sisters bonded together. We are all children of God. All of us are equal and no one is better than the other. I want to remember this because whether we are black, white, girl, boy, Latino, poor, or rich, we are all equals and live under Christ.

3. One image that captures the chapter for you.

4. One significant question that you have from this chapter.

If we are all Children of God, then why do we continue to fight with each other?

5. http://www.naacp.org/

The NAACP is important because it continues to strive for the advancement of African-Americans in our society. The NAACP does not acept the equality in our society and believes everyone in this world is equal. With programs and fundraisng, the NAACP has a voice in this country and a message it tries to spread is equality for all, not just African-Americans.
