Kingdom Bound

After two years, four countries and 40 million dollars, the producers, writer and directors of The 10th Kingdom must have been exhausted. They brought together their amazing talents to produce the largest mini-series in twenty years and that was no small feat. Below is a brief run down of their previous work and their positions on The 10th Kingdom.

Born in Budapest, Hungary Robert Halmi Sr. immigrated to the United States in 1950. During World War II he was apart of the Hungarian Resistance and his experiences then were the basis of the film Trial By Error. Mr. Halmi has had experience in a wide array of careers in the visual arts such as photographer for Life Magazine and a documentary film-maker. Currently, chairman of Hallmark Entertainment, Mr. Halmi has produced Gulliver's Travels, The Odyssey, Merlin, Arabian Nights, Cleopatra, Jason and The Argonauts as well as The 10th Kingdom.

President and CEO of Hallmark Entertainment, Robert Halmi Jr.'s philosophy is "understanding that quality family programming can be both entertaining and popular." He is responsible for bringing together Hallmark Entertainment and The Jim Henson Company with Odyssey Channel, which promotes high entertainment values and meaningful content. Some of Mr. Halmi Jr.'s credits are Return to Lonesome Dove, Streets of Laredo plus the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear View Window starring Christopher Reeves.

The idea for The 10th Kingdom has been with British screenwriter/producer/director Simon Moore for over a decade. Originally, the award winning Moore intended it as a feature film and had set the plot in London England instead of New York City. After writing the screenplay for Gulliver's Travels, Moore showed that mini-series' executive producers Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr. his ideas for a modern day fairytale and a legend was born. Other projects that Moore has to his credit are The Quick and The Dead, In and Out and a London stage adaptation of Stephen King's Misery. Brian Eastman has produced feature films and television projects in the UK for over 15 years. He is perhaps the best known for his work on the critically acclaimed Shadowlands directed by Sir Richard Attenborough. Other feature films include The Mill On the Floss, Up On The Roof, Under Suspicion and Whoops Apocalypse, plus various television credits.

Herbert Wise has, in a distinguished directing career, helmed more than 200 television dramas, five operas, and many stage plays. He was born in Austria, but has been based in Britain for many decades. Some television credits include the award-winning Break the Codeas well as Where the Heart Is and the multiple award-winning I, Claudius.

David Carson has directed feature films and television movies and series for over 10 years. A few of his various television credits include From the Earth to the Moon, Nash Bridges, Strange Luck, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Alien Nation. Carson's feature film credits include Star Trek: Generations and Letters from a Killer.

Prince, the dog that is, has a bio that reads like a fairytale. He was rescued by UK dog trainer Gill Radding whose company Stunt Dogs has supplied other canines to several other film and tv productions, such as 101 Dalmantians and Eastenders. According to Gill it took her three months to train Prince for his first assignment The 10th Kingdom. In order to get around the UK's strict quarantine laws, a double stunt dog from Canada, named Tanner had to be use for exterior scenes shot in Germany, Austria and France. This very well tempered pooch's next projects are two films, 102 Dalmantians and The Calling.

Kathryn Wesley is really the husband and wife writing team Kristine Kathryn Rusch & Dean Wesley Smith. She wrote Virgina's parts in the book while, he wrote for the more vicious characters like the Trolls and the Huntsman. The only golden rule they had to follow was not to change any of the dialogue. Together these two west-coasters have written several Star Trek books and many other novels in the science-fiction genre.

In the '80s Anne Dudley was known as a member of the instrumental UK group Art of Noise, remembered for their cover of Prince's song "Kiss" with Tom Jones. Armed with a depth of knowledge about mixing, recording and scoring techniques and backed by her recording engineer/husband Roger, Anne Dudley has become one of the most innovative film and television composers of today. Previously, she has scored soundtracks for The Crying Game and more recently, The Full Monty, winning an academy award for that particular score.
