The Battle of Cool Springs (Snickers Ferry)

Union position front & center facing their
left flank (south) where the 3rd brigade,
2nd Infantry position covered.

Union Front & Center Facing their Left Flank

This photo is taken at the center of the union lines facing their left flank where the entire front of the 3rd brigade is exposed. Here the 3rd brigades skirmishers charged out of the treeline at the left of the photo and up the hill (shown here very well by the disappearing treeline in the distance). Frost's right oblique maneuver was given here. In the far background the mountain is in the approximate location of Snickers Ferry crossing and gap.
The gradual hill, as mentioned in the battle, afforded the union troops as much protection as the fence, treeline, and other works, since it was responsible for the rebels to shoot higher than they thought. Much of their volleys and shots passed over the union troops' heads.
