Va. The Colonel proceeded and took command of the post at
Parkersburg, Wood
County, Va. by order of Brig. General Rosecrans. The Colonel
left
Parkersburg May 10th and took command of the U. S. Troops in the

Wirt, Calhoun, Roane and Jackson, establishing HQ at Spencer, Boone

The Regiment has been scouting in Wirt, Jackson, Wood, Calhoun,
Roan, Gilmer
and Braxton Counties since 20th August with HQ at Parkersburg.
November and December 1863: STATION: Parkersburg, WVa. - RECORD
OF EVENTS:
The Regimental HQ are at Parkersburg, WVa. and several Companies
have been
scouting the adjoining counties. Companies A & D are stationed
at
Parkersburg. Company B is at Rathbone. Company C is at Greenville.
Company
E is at Elizabeth. Companies F & H are at Bulltown.
Company G is at
Hurricane Bridge. Companies I & K are at Ravenswood.

May and June 1864: STATION: Camp Piatt, WVa. - RECORD OF EVENTS:
Left Camp
Piatt 30 April 1864 and marched via Montgomery Ferry, Fayetteville,
Raleigh,
Princeton, Rocky Gap, and Poplar Hill to Cloyds Mountain where we
met the
enemy on 9th of May, engaged and defeated them with considerable
loss,
entered Dublin Depot and camped. On the 10th inst moved to
New River Bridge
where we again drove off the enemy and burned the bridge.
Retreated via
Blacksburg, Union, and Aldersons Ferry to Meadow Bluffs, Va., a
distance of
260 miles in 19 days. Left Meadow Bluffs on the 1st of June
via White
Sulfur Springs, Callahans, Warm Springs, and Goshen Depot to Staunton,
112
miles. Met General Hunters command and left on the 10th inst
via Lexington
driving off a small force of the enemy, thence to Buchanon, crossed
the Blue
Ridge through Peaks of Otter, struck Virginia and Tenn R.R., moved
down it
towards Lynchburg tearing up the railroad and arriving before it
on the
afternoon of the 17th inst, engaged and drove the enemy back 2 miles,
fought
them on the 18th, found their position too strong and retreated
via Liberty,
Salem, New Castle, and Lewisburg to Camp Piatt making a distance
of 300
miles, total distance marched since 30 April 672 miles.

September and October 1864: STATION: Cedar Creek, Va. - RECORD OF
EVENTS:
This Regiment connected with the ARMY OF THE SHENANDOAH, General
Crooks
Corps has participated in its campaign during the summer and fall,
was in
the advance at the Battle of Berryville, Va. 3rd September in the
Battle of
Winchester 19th September, at Fishers Hill 22 Sept, at Cedar Creek
13th &
19th October, 1864.
November and December 1864: STATION: Hatchers Farm, Va. - RECORD
OF EVENTS:
This Regiment has since last muster moved with the Division from
Camp
Russell, Va. 19 December 1864 to Stephensons Depot, thence by rail
via
Harpers Ferry to Washington City, D.C. and from thence by steamer
to Bermuda
Hundred, Va. where it disembarked and marched out to the front and
went into
camp at what is known as Hatcher’s Farm, Va..
January and February 1865: STATION: Chapin’s Farm, Va. -- NO REPORT--
March and April 1865: STATION: Near Richmond, Va. - RECORD OF EVENTS:
This
Regiment broke camp at Chapin’s Farm on the 27th March 1865 and
marched to
Chicahominy River, a distance of 20 miles, 28th marched back to
Deep Bottom,
Va. a distance of 20 miles, 29th marched to Hatchers Run, Va., a
distance of
30 miles. Advanced on the enemy lines and bore a conspicuous
part in the
campaign against Petersburg, Va. and the capture of General Lee’s
Army at
Appomattox Court House, Va.. Afterward marched to Lynchburg,
Va. and
returned via Appomatox C.H. and Burkeville, Va to Richmond making
a march of
300 miles during the operations against Lee’s Army around Richmond.

EVENTS: The Company was engaged in an action May 6th, 1862 at Arnoldsburg,
Calhoun County, Va.. The Company made a scout from Arnoldsburg
to the mouth
of the Birch, a distance there and back 50 miles; on the 4th and
5th of May
the company marched from Arnoldsburg to Spencer for the purpose
of
reinforcing the post on the 7th; distance there and back 30 miles.
The
Company made a scout on the 18th day of May from Arnoldsburg down
the West
Fork and across to Spencer; distance 25 miles, and the Company remained
at
Spencer. On the 20th day of May the Company made a scout from
Camp Spencer
to Burning Springs, Wirt County; there and back a distance of 46
miles; on
the 27th May the Company made a scout of one week, distance
averaging 100
miles; and on the 2nd of June part of the Company made a scout to
Arnoldsburg from Spencer; distance 15 miles; on the 21st June the
Company
made a scout to Raders Mills and from there to Big Bend, Calhoun
County,
Va., and from there to Burning Springs; and from there back to Spencer
by
way of the mouth of West Fork; distance traveled 150 miles.
June 29, 1862 to August 29, 1862: STATION: Camp Spencer, Roane County,
Va. -
RECORD OF EVENTS: July 2nd Captain Baggs with 20 of his men accompanied
by
14 cavalry started on a scout by way of Burning Springs and thence
July 4th
to Ripley; from that place to Ravenswood on the 4th; in all a distance
of 65
miles and returned back to Ripley the 5th; distance 12 miles; and
on the 6th
they returned to camp; was fired on by the rebels but no one hurt;
it being
a distance of 28 miles; making in all 105 miles; July 10 Captain
Baggs with
31 men started to scout Jackson County; they accompanied the wagon
train to
the burnt mill; a distance of 15 miles; from thence to the 3 forks
of Reedy
a distance of 15 miles; and thence to Burning Springs, Wirt County;
a
distance of 16 miles; was gone 6 days; returned to camp on the 10th;
a
distance of 22 miles; a distance of 68 miles in all. August
2nd, Captain
Baggs with 30 men went to Ripley with the train; a distance of 28
miles; and
thence on the 3rd they scouted thence to Sandyville and from there
to camp
by way of the three forks of Reedy; a distance in all of 62 miles;
August
19, 13 men made a scout on the waters of Elk River; was gone 6 days;
routed
the enemy on Sandy; no one killed; was out a distance of 40 miles,
making 80
miles in all.
August 31 to December 31, 1862: STATION: Guyandotte, Va. - RECORD
OF EVENTS:
September 1st, 40 of Company “A” were surrendered to General Jenkins
via
Colonel Rathbone at Camp Spencer, Roane County, Va. There
were commissioned
officers, a Lieutenant, 3 Sergeants and 3 Corporals, 33 Privates
with 38
guns; also camp equipage, tents and part of the mens clothing was
destroyed
by the force under General Jenkins with fire and also the Company
Books and
reports, and the men captured were paroled the officers have no
list of
their names, but the men claim to be paroled on account of being
surrendered
up, and the rebels having possession of their names by taking the
Payroll
belonging to the Company. Also 2 Lieutenant’s swords and 2
horses and 2
sets of harnesses.

engagement the same day near the mouth of West Fork which resulted
after a
short skirmish in putting the rebels to flight; Number of rebels
in the
engagement about 75; returned to camp June 11, 62 after marching
by way of
Burning Springs a distance of 70 miles.

Captain
William Harris and Privates Ratliff and Rogers; returned to Camp
Spencer
with said prisoners by way of Burning Springs, Va. arrived at Camp
Spencer
July 3, 62; distance 60 miles.

Burning Springs, Wirt County, Va. on a scout on September 2nd, 62
at 4 o’
clock A.M.; received messenger about 3 o’clock on September 3rd,
62 to
return to Camp Spencer; went about 3 miles on the road back received
news of
the surrender of Spencer Roan County, Va. by Colonel Rathbone; retreated
to
Parkersburg with his and Lieutenant Parks detachment; was stationed
by order
of Lt. Colonel Frost at Parkersburg, Va.; went on a scout to Point
Pleasant
with 40 enlisted men in pursuit of Rebel Jenkins on September 9,
62 and
returned on September 15th, 62; distance 165 miles; lost in men
paroled at
Camp Spencer 28 enlisted men and 1, 2nd Lieutenant, 29 short Enfield
rifled
musket, 44 sabre bayonet, 72 shoulder straps, 41 belt and breast
plates, 31
cartridge boxes, 28 cap boxes, 81 gum blankets, 73 knapsacks. 94
haversacks,
89 canteens and straps, 39 gun slings, 3 non-commissioned officer
swords and
all camp accoutrements and most all of the soldiers clothes. Also

RECORD OF EVENTS: Captain J.W. Myers left Camp Union, Parkersburg,
Va. for
Spencer, Roane County on November 15th, 62 with his whole company
by order
of Lt. Colonel Frost; arrived at Camp Spencer, November 18, 62 in
good
order; on the 20th day of November, 62 Captain Myers left Camp Spencer
with
a detachment of 11 enlisted men up the West Fork in Calhoun County;
captured
8 prisoners and 8 guns; distance 32 miles; returned to camp 21 November,
62;
on the 22nd Captain J. W. Myers went with a detachment of 2 Lieutenants
and
13 enlisted men on a scout up the West Fork via Arnoldsburg, Calhoun
County
then up Frazers ? Creek where was found the camp of the rebels;
burnt all
their equipage but the rebels had fled; On November 26, 62, Captain
J. W.
Myers left Camp Spencer with 4 enlisted men as a guard with 10 rebel
prisoners for Wheeling, Va.; returned December 13th, 62; On December
23, 62
Captain J. W. Myers went on scout with 12 enlisted men up the West
Fork;
captured 2 of Captain Nutt’s Cavalry Company of the S.C. and a prisoner
with

enlisted men went on a scout on 6 October 1863 through the upper
parts of
Wirt; from there to Glenville, Gilmer County; returned to camp on
14 October
after traveling a distance of 175 miles; Captain Myers started on
a scout in
search of some rebel cavalry; met the enemy and repulsed them.

EVENTS: The Company has been during the last 2 months on several
scouts
through the County of Calhoun and have taken 11 rebels and sent
them to
proper authorities to dispose of them. He also captured 7
rifled muskets
and 1 sharps rifled carbine. Also built quarters for the winter
out of logs
during the time mentioned.

Springs, W.Va. on the 26th day of October 1861 to serve for a term
of 3
years from the date of enrollment unless sooner discharged; from
the 26th
day of October 1861 (when enrolled) to the 11th day of November
1864, when
discharged by reason of expiration of term of service. The
Company was
organized by Lt. Colonel Rathbone at Burning Springs in the month
of October
1861 and marched thus to Burning Springs...CERTIFICATE OF MUSTERING
OFFICER:
I certify, on honor, that I have at Newtown, Va. on this 11th day
of
November 1864 carefully examined this Roll, and, as far as practicable
caused the allowances, stoppages and remarks to be justly and properly
stated and mustered the Company for discharge from the service of
the United
