The Battle of Cool Springs (Snickers Ferry)

In Front of the Union Left Flank
Facing the extreme Left Flank

Extreme Left Flank of Union

This position was directly in front of the Union Left Flank facing the extreme Left Flank. The wooded area in the distance contained a creek and ravine that went from the Cool Spring to the Shenandoah River, and represented the furthest point of the union left. This position was approximately in front of the 5th NYHA and facing the would be scrimmagers of the 170th Ohio National Guard and the 123rd Ohio Infantry, who emerged from the tree line to the left of the picture (along the union position), and marched in the field toward the right of this photo.
