What is the history of online IRC CoDA meetings?
Unofficial Codependency chats began on the Talk City network the summer of 1996. During the next few months, the decision was made to organize formal CoDA meetings. Formal online CoDA meeting on IRC began in November 1996 on both Talk City and Undernet. They first began on Sundays on Talk City (hence number CY001), followed by Tuesday on Undernet (CY002) and Thursday on Undernet (CY003). A joint webpage (now defunct) was developed to publicize the meetings and inform one how to connect to them and went online just after the formal CoDA meetings started. In the latter half of 1997, CoDependents Anonymous officially recognized these online meetings as official CoDA meetings. The Wednesday meeting on Undernet was originally on Thursday, but was moved to Wednesday at a later date. Due to problems on Talk City, in May 2001, the Talk City meetings moved to StarChat. In the summer of 2002, a decision was made to build a new web page, which went online on September 21, 2002. The Undernet meetings have been discontinued. At the 2003 CoDA National Conference, CoDA decided to not to recognize online meetings. With the reorganization of CoDA as a whole and the creation of CoDA World Service, making CoDA an international organization, the issue was revisited and CoDA began recognizing alternative meeting formats once again. The webmaster was made aware of that in late 2006. In January 2007, this meeting was reregistered as WW019, an once again official CoDA meeting.

And if you are an AOL or subsidiary subscriber, you must register in order to connect to Star Chat.

Due to problems with abuse, StarChat has begun requiring AOL subscribers to register their nickname on StarChat before being allowed to chat.
