ALPS 9TH AP Human Geography

Objective: To prepare students to pass the AP exam by improving critical reading and writing skills, increase general geographic awareness, especially in the seven subtopics of human geography, and learn geographic perspectives and models. Suggested summer activities: Learn/review basic map reading and interpretation skills as well as world mapping activities to become more familiar with the political structure of the world.

Approximate calendar:

  1. Geography: Nature and Perspectives – August
  2. Population – September
  3. Cultural Patterns and Processes – October
  4. Political Organization of Space – November
  5. Agriculture and Rural Land Use – January
  6. Industrialization and Economic Development – February
  7. Cities and Urban Land Use – March

We will follow the book very closely to begin the course as some chapters apply to several of the topics from the AP course outline. Once we finish the text, we will start reviewing for the AP exam, applying the concepts from the text to the AP course outline.

Assignments will be of three types: writing, research, and knowledge application.

In addition to the AP curriculum, we will also prepare for Model United Nations conferences. We will be attending the Utah conference in April with a possibility of more. Check www.rhsmun.org to find the topics for the Regional conference held in late November – early December. I would like to send a small team to that conference.
