Sources of Geographic Data

Geographers get data from two major places, the field and using census data. Geographic specialists use math as well as computers, aerial photography, and even satellites to measure and map the globe. They also help construction teams and property owners find the best places to build. Geographers get their data from the field just by measuring and observing things. The get their data from census’ by asking people questions, or having them fill out surveys, to see for example what religion people are. They use the field, and census data, to get their information and to see what a place is really like. Here’s a quote from a geographer explaining that:
“Pretty maps are often the output, but good data and proper analyses are essential to communicating information effectively through a map.”
