The sweet and sour couple, the anger and the lust is what makes me think of Mcihael and Maria. However Season 3 has changed them from an interesting fighting-constantly-but-still-liking-each-other couple into a couple that just has too many problems and may not be suited together anymore. In the first episode Michael and Maria are not seen together as a couple but seperately because the first eisode mainly revolves around the conflict that Max and Liz are going through. In Michael, the guys,a dn the Great Snapple Caper we see Michael try to get his life together and keep his job as he tries to figure out the mystery behind the company that he works at. The couple has so far been seen together occasionally but the story line has never focused on them mainly. In the third episode, Maria is jealous of the time that Michael spends with his new friends from his job because she feels that he never has time for her anymore. But by the end of the epsisode, after the couple has a real heart-to-heart conversation, she realizes that Michael has no more time for her because of the new jobs that he took BECAUSE he wanted to make money so he could take her out and be financially stable like a normal boyfriend. She also realizes that Michael is just trying to find the human side of himself and she forgives Michael and their relationahip is fixed.
In the next four episodes the Michael and Maria relationship is put to the back burner as alien happenings occur and everyone must deal in their own way. However their relationship is put in the spotlight in "Behind The Music" as Maria's old friend Billy visits Roswell and Maria remembers her dream of once becoming a singer. Michael becomes extremely jealous of her old friend and demands that Billy leave. Maria then realizes that she has given up a lot of herself along the road with Michael, and she doesn't feel like herself anymore. At the end of the episode Michael and Maria meet in the park where Maria tells Michael that she wants out of the relationship because she feels that it is suffocating her a bit, although she still loves Michael. Michael is devastated but lets her go. In the Christmas episode, Michael dresses up as Santa at a mall to get closer to Maria who is playing an elf. This falls into a disaster when the kids walk in on the couple kissing in the back workshop. Maria doesn't appreciate Michael trying to re-instate the relationship that she has already halted. The next episode is for New Years where all the characters get split up into weird groups as they all try to find the New Year spirit. Maria goes with Max to find the New Year party called Enigma. Michael tries to go along so he can have more time with Maria, but he mysteriously is sick so he coulsn't get very far and he ends up realizing that Maria needs her space and he decides to back off. The relationship between the alien and the human is mentioned agian in the next episode as Maria's birthday beomes closer and Michael proposes a dinner out but Maria is worried that it may have too much value in significance. In "Ch-Ch-Changes, Maria's career as a singer gets a jump-start when a record label offers her a career, insanely happy she goes to Michael to give them the good news and they end up sleeping together. Michael then tries to help Maria with the legal part of the offer, thinking that maybe their relationship is back on level but Maria still shrugs him off. |
