Harriett Beaumont Simms first appeared in season 2, when she was the public affairs officer on board the USS Seahawk. She was escorting the JAG crew around the ship for an investigation and came to meet Bud. She later transferred to JAG and became a regular in season 3.

While at JAG, Harriett and Bud's relationship began. By the end of the 3rd season, the pair were married. Their first child, AJ, was born by the end of the 2nd season.
