Talking to...David James Elliott My long distance romance |
It's hard to imagine David James Elliott as anyone other than dashing navy lawyer, Commander Harmon Rabb Jr, on the popular TV show JAG. Yet the 40-year-old's first dream was to be a rock star. The handsome actor was a talented guitarist in his teens, and quit school briefly to form a band. After the group's breakup, he returned to school, where his acting career began. After playing the lead in Shakespeare's King Lear at school, David began studying at drama college. And, in 1985, he made his TV debut as a private eye on the drama, Street Legal, where he fell for Nanci Chambers, who had a small guest role. In 1990, the actor moved to Hollywood from Canada, and for two years he and Nanci had a long-distance courtship. "One day he arrived on my doorstep, pack up my belongings and moved me to LA," she recalls. They married in 1992, and a year later had a daughter, Stephanie. Work was scarce, but opportunities soon arose. "I got a part in this show, The Untouchables, which didn't last long," he says. "But I managed to pay off all our debts." In 1995, David got his big break as Carl the moving guy on Seinfeld. Next, he appeared on Melrose Place, which led to his star role on JAG. And what's next for the heart-throb actor? "I have a great career, but sometimes I still dream of being a rock star," he jokes. |
