I visited this "resort" in October. I did not like the room. I found a pair of someone else's shoes under the bed and a lot of dust. The furniture had cigarette burn marks. There was not hot water. When I complained I was treated as if I had done something. Secondly, I was not able to invite any of my friends to visit, because this place is "all inclusive" food and I think watered down drinks are a part of the package. Beautiful beach however. The club is also very far from everything. Taxi fare was about $10-15 dollars each way.
I left before my time, because I did not like the se

I just wanted to comment on what you said about club Fortuna. I have a time share there and have been a member for 6 years. I totally love the place. Anyway, as for what you said about the "watered down drinks." i just got home from Club Fortuna with my husband and we were discussing that they put alot of liqor in the drinks and that the drinks are strong. The drinks are not at all watered down. As for the rooms, if you are going away just to stay in a high class bedroom suit than maybe you should stay at the Ritz Carlton next time. personallyI spend all day at the beach and the pool and the bedroom is perfect for the pupose it is meant to serve. It is perfectly comfortable for showering, sleeping and whatever else you do on vacation. I do not apprecitate you knocking the place! As for finding shoes under the bed, big deal! I recently stayed at a $750 and night hotel in Germany and I too found a pair of shoes, only they were left in the closet! Finding a pair fo shoes is a pretty stupid way to try and describe how "bad" things were. Maybe you are too pretentious to travel, that is too bad for you!

Obviously, you and your husband have not had the opportunity to visit the other hotels on the island. I am sure you will both be pleasantly surprise. They offer excellent service. Of course you wouldn't know this because you have limited yourself to this so called "resort". You probably don't like mixing with the Bahamians either. I do! I am not pretentious I am someone who expects to get their dollars worth! CLEAN, well maintained ve

Dear Wendy,
I think you'll have a great time at Club Fortuna. There's lots to do there and it's a gorgeous place on the beach. It is a little out of the way and no public buses go there but they seem to have cut a deal with taxi drivers to give guests reduced fares. Also, lots of tours do provide free transportation. I do live on the island and if I can give you any suggestions on tours or things to do I'd be happy to help.

are there any top optional beaches in freeport

Try Club Fortuna. I understand that their clientele is mainly European and that many do go topless. It is an all inclusive resort in the Freeport area. I have not stayed there so i cannot tell you if it is a good place to stay, only that the all inclusive price seemed very reasonable.

I must be missing something :-) In all the time our family has spent at Club Fortuna, I've yet to see any of these topless beachgoers. I think they must be walking some distance along the beach in either direction away from the resort proper. Either way you go the beach is very secluded with the most you see being those 'millionaires row' mansions and you never see people in them. I have seen two reports from people who actually have sunbathed topless there (in fact, one was from a honeymooning couple who managed a lot more than just sunbathing if you know what I mean). Neither said exactly where they were talking about, though. As far as Club Fortuna itself, yes, there are a lot of Europeans there (less that half though). We like the exposure to other cultures/languages that gives our kids. In fact, one year, after we got back, our youngest kept saying "Bravissimo!" about anything he liked. Needless to say, he'd spent a lot of time playing with a bunch of Italian kids (last year it was some English kids and everything was "Smashing!").

Just browsing around about the Bahamas and planning a vacation at Club Viva Fortuna. What is it like? Did you think it was convenient to attractions, etc?

What would be the best way to visit other attractions from Club Viva Fortuna? Does the resort have a shuttle service or should we rent a car? My husband and I and two children are excited to be visiting next week. Thanks!

Hi Rebecca,
There is no FREE shuttle provided by Viva Club Fortuna. The property is NOT on the public bus route. You will have to take taxis or rent a car.
Feel free to email me if you need info. on car rentals or taxis and stuff.
Have a great vacation.
best regards

Hi Rebecca,
Check with the excursions desk at Club Fortuna. They have packages for all the attractions like the Dolphins, Lucayan National Park, Booze Cruise, etc. All of these packages include them coming right to the front door of the resort to pick you up, and dropping you back afterwards when done.
Check our website below for more info and pics of the resort and feel free to e-mail if you want.

Dear Rebecca,
Club Fortuna is a little out of the way and it isn't on a public bus route. Good news is that they have a special deal with the taxi drivers and you get reduced cab fares into Port Lucaya and Bazaar area. Also, most tour companies do offer free transportation so that will help also.
Club Fortuna has so much to do on the property that thankfully you shouldn't have to leave too often unless you decide to do some exploring.
I live on the island and if you need any more info about the island or some child friendly tours I would be happy to help you out and give you some prices.
Have a great time!!!

Well after reading some of the comments that have been put forward about the resort leaves me a little worried,to say the least! I am going to get married there and was banking on a holiday of a lifetime experience. Someone alay my fears!

Sharon, We took a tour of the resort last year, and considering we've been going to GBI for 16 years, that sounds a little screwy. The reason is because the resort is somewhat isolated and we never had a reason to go there. We made a conscious decision to visit after I started trying to help people on various Bahamian message boards. In my personal opinion, the staff (mostly European) was extremely helpful and friendly. The resort is very nice with many local activities. It is NOT, however, the equivalent of a luxury resort in the U.S. It is a nice, quiet resort, and many of the people we've met over the years that have been guests there indicated they almost never leave the property, because all the want is right there. That doesn't fit us, since we like to golf and lose money in the casino, but I'd say for your purposes, if you understand it is nice but not luxurious, you will have a great time.
Danny

I wouldn't worry too much. If you look at all the comments on all the boards, they run probably 10 to 1 favorable. Every once in a while someone just seems to need to vent.
Our family stays there regularly and we've put up a website with pictures and info (URL below). Also, I just got email from some people who just got back, said they had a blast, and that they also created a website - http://www.geocities.com/vivafortuna - it's just pictures of the place, but there's a ton of them, check it out.
If you've got questions, feel free to email.

Bahamas-mon     Freeport...Looking for a hotel that is all inclusive......PLEASE HELP!!!

February 08, 2001 at 12:51:41 by Jessica (jessicas@surfsouth.com)
Hi! I am looking for a hotel that is all inclusive. (meals, drinks, and fun stuff to do) My mom and I are taking a trip. With this being my first time to the Bahamas,.....

February 09, 2001 at 09:58:17 by Joe (joekusterer@yahoo.com)
Basically, there are three in Freeport that do the all-inclusive - they're all nice but none of them are a 'Sandals' super upscale type of place - that doesn't exist on Grand Bahama Island.
First there's the Resort at Bahamia (used to be called the Princess soon to be called Holiday Inn Sunspree or Crown Plaza or something like that). It's located in downtown Freeport and has a shuttle that'll take you to the beach. The all-inclusive is optional and is called the Pizzaz package. Also note that as part of the name changing, there're major renovations currently under way that should take a year or so.
Second is Club Viva Fortuna. It's located on it own beach and is fully all-inclusive. It's a little off the beaten path but since you have everything you need right at the resort, that's really not a disadvantage. This is the one our family stays and you can check our website listed below for lots of info on this place.
Third is the Reef Village portion of Our Lucaya. Our Lucaya is made up of three hotels -Reef Village, Breakers Cay, & Lighthouse Point - on the beach in Port Lucaya with Reef Village being the all-inclusive. This resort is located in Port Lucaya which is probably the most 'happening' place on the island what with all the bars and restaurants right there in the marketplace. Only thing is is that if you're doing the all-inclusive you've already paid for your drinks and food that you'll get at the resort.
Anyways, if you check the website below, one of the pages is called 'Forums/Chat' and has links to several other boards like this one, including several that are more specific to Grand Bahama Island. If you check out those boards you'll see plenty of postings discussing all three of these resorts.
