"James Ferguson Jr started
Taxahaw Baptist Church in Lancaster County, SC and was the first
preacher at the church.I don't have much info on the family before this.
There was a man in Lindale,Texas who knew quite a lot but he did not have
much written down and then he died in December 1990 and took whatever he
knew to the grave. A sad loss.....if only things were written down.....
Story goes Lewis B Ferguson owned land in the Flat Creek area
of Lancaster County up until 1854. At around that time the family left South Carolina
and came to North Carolina. We believe that
one of James Jr's daughters married a Gregory and James Jr and wife are
probably buried in or around the area called "Forty Acre
Rock" There is a cemetery called the "Massey-Gregory Cemetery"
located off of Highway 601, but it is about 1/4 mile of the road and in
the woods and has not been taken care of for years. It is so grown up, tomb
stones gone or fallen overand I wouldn't dare go walking in there until
it was cold weather... a snake would get you..... I have looked at the graveyard
at Taxahaw Baptist but there are no Ferguson graves with markers."
