TLC
You can call this a testimonial, but this is one of the greatest events that has taken place in my life. In March of 2000, a new company came to the Charleston area, TLC. They held a seminar and explained to those that attended about a somewhat new type of eye surgery (LASIK). It caught my eye (pun); you see I have been wearing glasses for the last 25 years. My eyesight was so bad that without my glasses everything was a blur. So I gathered up all of my eyeglass prescriptions and took them to the local TLC center in Charleston to see if I was a good candidate. I shocked everyone there by having prescriptions for 25 years. They told me I appeared on the surface to be a good candidate. I immediately scheduled a date for the surgery 26 May, (a birthday present for myself). In late April, I went for my consultation, Clarissa (A wonderful skilled technician) took all the readings from the machines, Dr. Majors (who has also had the surgery) then reviewed the readings and gave me a full eye exam. The results were not to good, I was outside the limits for the surgery at that point. I was given a few options, none that really appealed to me. So I went home disappointed, knowing I would be stuck wearing glasses the rest of my life, and that my vision would always be bad. Dr. Majors sent my file to the patient affairs for review; the process took a few weeks. One day at work Dr. Majors called and said that Dr. Woolfson suggested they do a partial surgery, which would not give me 20/20 vision, but would improve my vision greatly. I told him I wanted an idea what my vision would be like, they gave me some lenses, and the vision I had was pretty darn close to what my vision was with my glasses. I said lets go with it. Tho I had to change my date, since I now had made plans for the summer, so I moved the date to the end of July. I was told I would have to go to Greenville, SC for the surgery, since Charleston had not received permission from DHEC to conduct surgery yet. Well on 27 July, I had the surgery done. Let me first say I am in awe, I am sitting at my computer typing this, with no glasses, the font is a 10 and I can see it very clearly. There really are no words to describe the feeling. For those thinking of this, please look into it, you will not regret it. I do want to thank all those people who made this happen, my wife of course who urged me a lot,my friends, my co-workers, but also to the dedicated staff. Dr. Majors who did everything he could to get this surgery scheduled for me. Evelyn, who at the seminar was so exuberant, and friendly and a constant urger, when I had doubts. Sharon who had to put up with my phone calls, and visits to the center, and was a constant source of encouragement. Christine who answered all of my questions every time I called (which was very often). Clarrissa, who on a very short notice the day before the surgery took me in to wash out my eye when I got shampoo in it, and was even more excited about how much my vision had improved than I was. And I would be remiss if I didn't say my eternal thanks to Dr. Woolfson (the Surgeon), without his expertise this would not have been possible. And the professional staff in Greenville, they are experts and do a lot behind the scenes, and should not go un-noticed. Two last notes, it might look like it's a lot of money for this type of surgery, but I realized you can't put a price tag on your vision, you owe it to yourself to at least look into it. And one last thanks to the team in Charleston, you are the best, you made me feel important, and like I was part of the team there.
