KIM CLIJSTERS defeated CHRISTINA WHEELER 6-2 6-1
Q. Kim, that was a pretty comfortable performance?
A. Oh, yeah. I felt good, it was nice. I think this was my first night match in a Grand Slam. I have never done that, but it was - no, I felt very comfortable out there and I played well. I started off very well and then I played, I think, two lazy games. But, no, I am very comfortable with the way I played and happy to go through.
Q. Kim, in the circumstances, with what you were probably watching on the television screen, if not courtside, beforehand, how difficult was it for you to go out there after seeing Lleyton lose?
A. I was getting prepared for my match. If I'm not playing I will go and watch his matches, but I was preparing for my match so I didn't see a lot of the match at all.
Q. Did you see much of it on TV?
A. No, not at all, because in the women's change rooms they watch all the women's matches. They are not really interested in the men's results.
Q. Do you deliberately not watch, or not ask for Lleyton's score so that it doesn't affect you?
A. No. Of course, I think it's natural that I get a little bit nervous when he is playing, so I don't really want to get too stressed up before my match, before I have to go out there.
Q. Obviously you must be disappointed for him?
A. Yeah, I think everyone is. But that's tennis. Everyone tries to win and someone has to lose, someone has to win.
Q. Did you expect your first round match to be that easy today?
A. I have known Christina for a while, and she is a very good player. I hadn't actually seen her play a lot of matches, but I know she plays well. Like it sort of surprised me also a little bit in the beginning that she played that aggressive, and I think it is great for Australia's tennis to have a young girl play that well. Yes, so I think it is good.
Q. In a tournament where a lot of the seeds are falling, does it give you just extra confidence to get through the first round?
A. Yeah, I don't - like I said, I don't try to focus that much on what is happening around me and what all the other players are doing, I just try to focus - like, I am here to do my best and I am only trying to focus on my matches and on my Singles or Doubles or on my practice sessions. I don't really try to focus on what is happening all around, because if you have to think about everything else it is a little bit too much for you.
