I read the book, Hannibal. My friends
didn't and I didn't tell them where to close there eyes. Hee,
hee, hee. I think just hearing what happened to the victims of
the dastardly, wild man of cannibal fame was enough.
Okie dokie, call me crazy, but I haven't laughed this hard in years. Yeah, I know, it's a horror film and I wasn't compelled to actually look at some of it, but "This is gonna hurt!" says Hannibal. I can't stand it!
I should have invested in special effects this year, with an
emphasis on blood and guts. I would have made (oh dear) a killing.
In a few years, teenagers are going to be bringing this film home
for Halloween parties. Hannibal
is, by far, the best horror film character ever created and his
mask is much more terrifying than Jason's.
Clarice got prettier and smarter, the FBI stayed as dumb as ever, Hannibal more spoiled than ever. He will have his way. When this guy throws a tantrum, oh baby! Does the phrase "Over the top" mean anything? Now it does!
Mr. Hopkins' supporting cast is top notch. Julianne Moore is, in my opinion, a vast improvement. Gary Oldman as Mason Verger..... well..... Gary Oldman, what can I say? You can't get any better. Ray Liotta's Paul Krendler is cool, smooth, just what the FBI ordered. Giancarlo Giannini is superb as the inadequate Florentine cop who accidentally recognizes our archfiend in hibernation. Frankie Faison as Barney the nurse reminds the viewer of the atmosphere of Silence of the Lambs and bridges the 10 year gap with an incite into this little known character.
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal brings Art to the screen once more,
bringing the audience closer to evil than any of us ever wanted
to be and making us love it. Chilling, diabolical and very, very
camp. Just the way I like my monsters.
David Mamet and Steven Zaillian gave us a wonderful rendering of Thomas Harris' book without keeping us in the theater for days and Ridley Scott..... Ridley, OKIE DOKIE!!!! Ridley has put together all this and given us a portrait in terror with incredible trappings and way out there humor.
Oh and just one more thing Ray, love ya hat!
