if you are reading this page, then you have probably had trouble viewing some of the miscellaneous symbols used in the text. this page is intended to be a convenient way to check for the required fonts needed to render these symbols. apart from the names of the individual hexagrams that are shown written in chinese at the top of each of the 64 pages in Book I, there are the 8 trigrams, the simpler digrams, and the fundamental monograms of Yin and Yang, then there is the Yin-Yang symbol itself. also, there are two symbols borrowed from the Tai Xuan Jing (a.k.a. Tai Hsuan Ching) which is a very similar system that is considered to be based on the I Ching. these symbols, the Tetragram for Increase and the Tetragram for Decisiveness, are used to illustrate the idea of nuclear trigrams overlapping within the structure of a hexagram.

these symbols require the use of unicode fonts to be rendered correctly. there are three particular fonts I use for this purpose. they are Cyberbit, Code2000, and Code2001 which can be downloaded as compressed zip files here, here, and here. these fonts are TrueType Fonts (TTF) and should work well on various operating systems. each of these pages offer instructions for installing their fonts so I won't go into the details here, but please let me know if you have trouble using these links.
