Dixie: Tad, are you all right? Tad, can you hear me? Do you need a doctor? I'll go get some help, ok? Tad: Sorry. Dixie: That's ok. Tad, are you sure you're all right? I'm fine. Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me. Tad: Don't I know you from someplace? Dixie: A very long time ago. Tad: Is it really you? Dixie: Well, who'd you think it'd be? Tad: Another illusion. Here, have a seat. So -- what are you doing here, back in Pine Valley? Dixie: Adam decided to uproot Junior and transplant him back here. Tad: Legally? Dixie: Well, all he had to do was reach into his pocket and pull out a judge to issue a court order. Tad: Why now? Dixie: To hear Adam tell it, he is protecting his son. But looks to me like he brought him back into the middle of a war zone. Tad: It's a lot more than that. None of this had to happen. Dixie: The explosion? Tad: Camille was trying to warn us. Adam stopped her. He got in her way. If he'd shut up for a minute, just listened to what she had to say, then holidays would still be in one piece, nobody'd be hurt. Camille would -- Dixie: Camille was here when the place went up? Where is she, Tad? Was she hurt? Tad: She's dead, Dixie. Dixie: I'm so sorry, Tad. Tad: Yeah, so am I. Doesn't seem fair, does it? Everybody ostracized her, and she died trying to save us. Dixie: Not to hear Adam tell it. Tad: Adam is an idiot. He's a moron. As usual, he jumped to the wrong conclusion. Camille didn't have it in her to hurt anybody. Dixie: You know, Tad, sometimes it's -- it's really hard to believe bad things about people that we care about, but -- I mean, you remember how hard it was for me to accept all the terrible things my brother will did. But sometimes, no matter how much it hurts, sometimes you just have to. Tad: Uh-uh. Camille might have been a lot of things -- lonely, confused, even scared -- but dangerous wasn't one of them. She never hurt a soul. Whoever did this, it certainly wasn't Camille. She died, gave her life, trying to save us, including Adam. Dixie: It sounds like you cared a lot about her. Tad: Guess it wasn't enough. Dixie: Were you in love with her? Tad: No. I mean -- wasn't in love with Camille. I wanted to be. Truth is I needed a little magic in my life, you know, some of the old razzle-dazzle, and there she was -- materialized, you know, right out of thin air, literally. So I guess I was intrigued, captivated. Like an illusion, every time I got next to here, she'd disappear, just vanish, just like the ultimate game of hard to get. The really sad thing is when I finally did see the woman behind the whole smoke and mirrors, the magic just kind of wore off. Poof. Another illusion bites the dust, huh? Dixie: Was she in love with you? Tad: She wanted to be loved. And I was willing to go along for the ride, you know, see how far it went. But in the end, my heart just wasn't in it. Dixie: You did a lot of things for her, Tad. Why? Felt sorry for her. She didn't have anybody. So I pitched in wherever I could. But in the end, I had to back off, just like everybody else. Dixie: Why? Tad: Because she scared the hell out of me. She lived for one reason and one reason only and that was to avenge her mother's death. You know how they say fathers live on in sons? Well, they live in their daughters, too, because Lee Hawkins filled his little girl with so much bile, so much hatred, there -- I don't think there was room for anything else. Dixie: Well, it sounds like Camille made her choice and you made yours. Tad: Difference is she's dead. Dixie: Tad, you had no way of knowing what was going to happen. Tad: Cold consolation, isn't it? Dixie: So what's your theory? Tad: Theory? Dixie: Well, all of these close calls -- Stuart getting caught in an elevator, Scott getting electrocuted at the cabin. I mean, are these accidents? Tad: No. This wasn't an accident. Whoever did this, who's capable of doing something like this, of hurting all those people, is a real monster. Re sure it wasn't Camille? Tad: Camille wanted Adam to pay -- only Adam, nobody else. Dixie: Well, then who did this? Tad: I don't know. But one thing's for sure -- I'm sure as hell going to find out. Man: I'm going to have to ask you to clear out. Tad: Why? What's going on? Man: We've been working in the basement to shore up the rest of the building, but it's too far-gone. We're going to bring in the dozers before the whole place collapses. Tad: We're out of here. [Tad holds Dixie's arm as she steps over debris] Dixie: Thanks. Dixie: Um -- can I give you a ride home? Tad: No. Thanks. I've -- I got some things to take care of before I call it a night. Dixie: Ok. Well, take care, ok?
