Ramirez Spanish®

This guitar was owned and played by Andres Segovia, the father of modern classical guitar-playing...

Andres Segovia (1893-1987) single-handedly popularized the guitar to a concert instrument during his long and illustrious career. He taught himself how to play the guitar at the tender age of six, and by 1909 he had his first concert in Granada.

Andres vastly increased the classical guitar's repertoire; he transcribed works for harpsichord, piano violin, cello, and even(as if that wasn't enough!) for the lute.

Segovia's style and grace eventually got him an international audience, and the guitar was recognized as an important concert instrument. After his Paris debut in 1924, he began touring the world, paving the way for many young talents and inspiring everyone who listened to his music.

Segovia continued to perform well into his eighties, and his name will forever be linked to Spanish guitars.

This Ramirez Spanish was designed and built by Santos Hernandes, who was then the foreman for Manuel Ramirez. The Spanish guitar later went through several changes and modifications, and it's sound and looks improved with time..
