Flat Stanley Project

As part of our social studies unit on geography in 2nd grade, we will be participating in the FLAT STANLEY PROJECT.  Flat Stanley is a book by Jeff Brown that we read together in our classroom.  In this book, a boy named Stanley is accidentally squished “flat as a pancake” by a falling bulletin board.  He then has many adventures and discovers that being flat has some advantages.  He can slide under doors, go down into sidewalk grates and even fold himself up in an envelope to visit his friends.

We have decided to participate in the Flat Stanley Project, in which kids around the country mail Flat Stanleys all over the world, and use the information in their studies at school.  In the attached envelope you will find a Flat Stanley, a Flat Stanley response page, a return envelope and a cover letter explaining our project.  Please think of someone your family knows that would “play along” if they received this envelope of Flat Stanley materials in the mail.  Write the friend/relative’s name on the cover letter, address the envelope, seal it, and drop it in the mail.
We are very excited to begin receiving the Flat Stanley’s back here at school after their adventures as soon as possible!  Thank you for your support as we undertake this project.  For more information you can go online and search for “Flat Stanley.”
