C. J. Snare was born on  December 14, 1964 in Washington D. C. to Buck and Barbara Snare. His desire to sing started at a young age, when he used to harmonize with his parents. He knew then that he wanted to be a singer in a rock band. Eventually, the family moved to Lockhaven, Pennsylvania where he attended Lockhaven High School. After graduating from High School, C. J. moved to Orlando, Florida, where he studied theatre at Rollins College.  But when  his desire to sing took over,  he changed his mind and decided on a career in music. After living in Florida for a time, he made another move to the Carolinas, where he eventually met bass player Perry Richardson, and together they formed the band Max Warrior. While touring in the Carolinas and surrounding areas, the two became friends with a guitar player and a drummer from a band named White Heat. Their names were Michael Foster and Bill Leverty. After a time, C. J., Michael and Bill decided to form a band together and named it Firehouse. Perry Richardson later joined the band as bass player. The band has been together for over ten years, but with a new millenium came a change in personnel. Bruce Waibel (who formerly played with Greg Allman) took over the spot of bassist. Back in the mid 90's, C. J. and his wife obtained a distributorship with a company called Lifestyles. The company sold health products, and was based in Canada but wanted to branch out to the United States. The pair were doing well, but eventually C. J. realized that he was a singer, not a salesman. Along with singing, C. J. also plays keyboards and tambourine, and has co-written the music and lyrics to most of Firehouse's songs with guitarist Bill Leverty.  C. J.  keeps his voice in shape by warming up before shows.  He doesn't smoke and says that he doesn't drink any alcohol while he's on the road.  He has two brothers and one sister, and currently resides in Florida with wife Kelly and daughter Heather.
