The 6th Kentucky Mounted Infantry was organized on September 10, 1861 at Cave City and reorganized with eight companies on April 26, 1862.  The regiment became Mounted on September 17, 1864 at Barnesville, Georgia.  On May 6, 1865, the 6th Kentucky Mounted Infantry surrendered at Washington, Georgia.  During its term of service, the Regiment participated in the following known engagements:
