The 3rd Kentucky Infantry was organized on July 5, 1861 at Camp Boone, Montgomery County, Tennessee.
The first Company F became the 1st Artillery Battery at Bowling Green, Kentucky
on September 20, 1862. Companies L and M were created by the assignment of Company E, 12th
Tennessee Infantry and Company F, 22nd Tennessee Infantry on May 15, 1862. The regiment
became Mounted on March 10, 1864. On May 4, 1865, the 3rd Kentucky Mounted Infantry surrendered
at Meridian, Mississippi. During its term of service, the Regiment participated
in the following known engagements:
