The 1st Kentucky Infantry, per Special Order #117, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office, was organized on August 7, 1861 by the consolidation of the 1st Infantry Battalion, which consisted of four companies, and Taylor's Infantry Battalion, which consisted of six companies, at Manassas Junction, Virginia.  During its term of service, the Regiment participated in the following known engagements:


Mason's Hill   (September 28, 1861)
Dranesville   (December 20, 1861)


The 1st Kentucky Infantry, during it's one year term of service, was assigned to the following military Organizations:


D. R. Jones' Brigade, 2nd Corps, Army of the Potomac (August - October 1861)

D. R. Jones' Brigade, 2nd Corps, Potomac District, Department of Northern Virginia
(October 1861 - February 1862)

D. R. Jones' Brigade, G. W. Smith's Division, Potomac District, Department of Northern Virginia (February 1862 - April 1862)

D. R. Jones'-Semmes' Brigade, Toombs' Division, Magruder's Command, Department of Northern Virginia (April 1862 - May 1862)


On April 30, 1862, the 1st Kentucky Infantry was reogranized and mustered out of service at Richmond, Virginia on May 13-14, 1862.
