The CITA BRAVO TV special presenter - Nova Meierhenrich - started the tv special
giving some short information about the guys and saying that a lot has happened
since their parting... She pointed out the coming out from Eloy and Benjamin's
solo career! She was reporting from the shooting of the Benjamin's new video
10 000 light years. The short introduction was followed by the CITA 'report', which
was some kind of collage made of various clips from CITA videos, concerts,
performances, TV appearances and interviews. (Therefore, the article below
is not supposed to be understood as a chronological review of their career.)

The boy-group Caught In The Act - was due to Eloy, Benjamin, Lee and
Bastiaan - for 6 years one of the most successful boy-groups.
Boys got together in Amsterdam in 1992 and got a sensational breakthrough
with the mega-hit song "Love is everywhere" in 1995.
Lee grew up with his two sisters in Cardiff, England. After he graduated from
a banking school, he enrolled the acting school in London.
Eloy, the youngest of the four, grew up in Holland and begun dancing
when he was only six years old.
[A clip of Eloy telling how he used to sing into a comb -
pretending it was a microphone.]
Benjamin was born in London and spent his childhood in England and in
Holland; he went to a graphic-design school in Amsterdam.
Bastiaan established his first musical group, when he was 14, since this Dutch
guy has always wanted to become a singer.
[A clip of Bastiaan telling a story - when he was a kid, he used to take his
mum's loundry-pail and turning it upside down and pretending he had drums]
The real breakthrough for the guys was the appearance in the German soap
"Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten" (Good times, bad times) at the end of 1994.
At this particular time, the single "Love is everywhere"  got a golden record.
The video for "Love is everywhere" was shot in a single day. Guys
are dancing topless in the video  and all they needed (the props :) )
were eight suitcases of clothes.
The song "My arms keep missing you" (1995) ended as No. 26 in Germany,
but it was in top 10 in Hong Kong.
[A clip of Lee telling that there was a big difference in atmosphere when
shooting "Love is everywhere" video and "My arms keep missing you" video.]
The clip of the BRAVO Supershow 1995 followed, with Eloy telling how this
was important for them, since it was the first performance in front of a
large audience. Bastiaan: "We won three Otto's (the Bravo awards),
which we were very proud of and were very important to us..."
In the summer of 1995, CITA started shooting their next video
"Let this love begin" in the exotic St. Thomas in the Carribbeans.
[Benjamin is telling the story, when he climbed the palm tree and fell
off and hurt his chin. The make-up lady had to cover it, so it
couldn't be seen in the video.]
"You know" (1995) - Benjamin - amusing as always -  said that they had
some sticks attached to their backs, so they wouldn't move, while the podium
they were standing on was rotating.
Benjamin said, that they had performed in number of discotheques
before they became famous. He said that they had four big world
tours - two of which were "Forever friends" and  "The
Christmas Tour".
The album "Caught In The Act of Love" was 40 weeks on the German
charts and was sold in 500 000 copies.
The video for "Don't walk away" (1996) was shot in London studio.
"Forever Friends Tour" (1996) was one of the biggest successes
in their career. They studied the choreography several months
8 hours a day.
In the  "Babe" (1997) video, which was shot in the location near
London, the guys starred as US soldiers and one of them falls in love
with a Vietnamese girl. The idea for the video
came from Eloy.
Lee: "We were in Asia three times, in Australia, everywhere in
Europe, we were in St. Thomas and Virgin Islands. We've been
very spoiled."
The clip of "Baby come back" (March, 1997) followed.
Bastiaan: "Hi BRAVO TV. We're in Miami in Florida and we are all
soaking wet, where we are shooting our new video Baby come back."
Caught In The Act were regular guests at BRAVO TV. They first appeared
when Christianne Backer was still the show host, but they were also guests
when Heike Makatsch, Jasmine Gerat and Lori Stern were hosts.
(I hope I spelled their names right.)
Benjamin knew at the time, that "Hold on" (1998) was going to be their last
hit (together as Caught In The Act).

Nova: "You were a long time together as CITA and were very successful.
What do you feel when you're looking back on it - when seeing
the clips..."
Benjamin: "I think that those was important time  of my life, but it is now over."
Nova: "And how does it feel to stand alone on the stage? Don't
you feel like there is something missing?"
Benjamin: "Yes, the first time was a bit... (he makes a funny face) erm..."
Nova: (laughing) "Funny?"
Benjamin: "But now it is OK."
Nova: "A lot has happened in the past year. What have you been doing?"
Benjamin: "I've recorded a new album and have worked very hard. Really.
I had to finnish it in 6-7 months, so ... I'm shooting the video for one of the
songs today. For "10 000 lights", which is my second single. I shot he first
video in Los Angeles and now I'm shooting in Berlin.

The clip on their parting followed.
Said news for the fans came in July 1998. Caught In The Act parted after
six years. The managers didn't want to renew the contract. A shock for the fans.
The news came quite surprisingly to Eloy, Bastiaan, Benjamin and Lee, too.
They spent the last day together as a group with mixed feelings.
Benjamin: "We've been together for 6 years. It's time to go our ways.
I want my life back."
Lee: "It's a real shock, because it all happened so fast. We are all very
shocked, but the important thing is that we are all still very good friends."
Bastiaan: "As we started we started small. There were only four of us
and our fans. But after six years it almost seemed like a job."
Eloy: "It came so fast. Now we'll look back on what we've done and
achieved."
For all four of them, there was one important date - 16. 8. 1998.
The date of their farewell concert in Magdeburg, Germany.
Lee: "I'm glad that we have a chance for the last time to perform
together."
The guys planned the farewell tour, but they couldn't carried
it out, because of some legal difficulties.
Before their last performance the guys said:
Bastiaan: "My heart throbs. I don't know how I feel, if I'll be able to remember
the words, if I'll be able to sing."
Benjamin: "I think that when I'll be on the stage I'll know how I feel."
Eloy: "This four years we've been together have been great and
I hope that the last performance will be great as well."
Bastiaan: "Caught In The Act has been a wonderful "dream", unbelievable.
But I also need my personal life, my friends, which I've really missed."
Eloy: "Now we're turning the new leaf in our lives..."
Bastiaan: "Forever friends. We belong together."
* * *
With the fame came the fans and CITA were always on good terms
with their fans. There are still a lot of homepages on the internet
dedicated to Bastiaan, Eloy, Lee and Benjamin.
A great numbers of letters came every day to their official fan club.
Before or after the concerts, the guys took the time for the autographs,
interviews or just to chat with their fans.
Bastiaan: "Fans are like friends, like a family..."
Lee: "We always like to meet fans..."
The BRAVO TV viewers  were given an opportunity to meet the guys for ten times.
The "mega-prize" winners could spend the whole day with the guys.
The day the group officially parted, the guys held a press conference.
Lee: "germany has always been a very important country for us - for
our careers. And the fans have been great. So, thank you for all
your support... Yeah."
* * *
They visited Lee in his recording studio:
Lee: "Hey welcome, welcome BRAVO TV. Nice you could come along. Do
you want to see what I've been doing for the past year?
Come into the studio and check it out!"
Lee is recording his new solo album in a studio in Amsterdam.
It's still not known when the album is coming out.
Lee: "I've been writing new songs and looking for a producer. I've
spent a lot of time renovating the house I bought in Amsterdam."
Lee has spent a lot of time meditating and relaxing, since
CITA parted.
Lee: "I'm still working on my songs, have many new ideas. They are
kind of a brit pop, mixed with the influences of songs from 60ies and 70ies.
I use the sounds that were used years ago, mixing them with the modern
to give it a kind of a fresh sound..."
[A clip of Lee performing one of his songs - "Little monsters" in the studio. Here are just a couple of lines from it that I could catch:
"This is a warning, it's my warning to you,
to be prepared, to know what to do, oh oh...
If you go looking..."]
Lee: "I haven't even watched the tape of our farewell concert...
i'd probably need to go through a couple of therapy sections and
take it along with me..."
* * *
Than they were meeting Bastiaan.
Bastiaan: "I spent a lot of time resting last year. I was on vacation.
I searched for new songs, new producers and now I'm more
or less done with my resting and ready to start."
A meeting in the vicinity of Magdeburg (Germany) proved that CITA
still have a lot of fans. Bastiaan was the only one to attend the
"reunion" and there were over 500 fans, who had an opportunity to
hear some of Bastiaan's new songs.
Bastiaan: "I still make pop music, but with "real" instruments - guitar
in the back.
[The clip of Bastiaan singing his new song Sarah says].
Here is what Bastiaan told about Eloy's homosexuality:
We've been together for six, seven years and I have always known
that Eloy is gay. I'm very happy for him, that he came out. He's
very happy with Stephen now and I'm very happy for him. One
shouldn't hide something like this..."
Bastiaan will publish his first single on 13th October, but the title is
still not known.
Bastiaan: "I think that the album is good. As good as CITA
albums or perhaps even better..."
The fans' reactions was great, which means that Bastiaan has
nothing to be afraid of.
* * *
The last one to meet was Benjamin (yeah, I know that Eloy is missing!!!)
Benjamin had always the most difficult times with CITA menager,
which is the reason for him to become his own menager.
Benjamin: "I've learnt so much with the band and I'm happy that
I had an opportunity to be a part of it for 6 years."
Benjamin was the first one to start his solo career.
Benjamin: "We didn't have the full control and now since I have it,
I much more self-confident and knowing what I want."
Benjamin traveled to Los Angeles in May '99 to shoot his first video
for single "Change".
Benjamin: "My life has changed, my music has changed. I've moved
from one country to another. Now I live in Koeln (Germany). The
song "Change" on my first album talk about the changes I've made."
The clip of Benjamin in his new house followed and than he
went to see his girlfriend Aleks.
"10 000 light years" is Benjamin's new single. In video he meets with
the aliens.
Benjamin:"... There must be something out there..."
They were shooting the video for two days in Berlin.
Benjamin: "In the past few months I've been doing everything alone and
it doesn't feel strange anymore."
* * *
Nova ended the report, saying that she wishes the guys all the best.
And all I'm gonna say is:
DITTO!

from CITA BRAVO TV special, BRAVO TV, RTL 2,  19th September 1999

PS Mind that my German's not very good, thus there might be some mistranslations. However
I did the best I could!
