Remarks:

One of my favourite bands from the moment I first saw them play at the Students Union of Warwick University (February 10th 1990). It must have helped that they looked cool, “Nothing Ever happens” was a minor radio hit and I was invariably drunk (*sigh*, to be 21 again). But they played a nice little gig and set me off; what I remember clearly was the purity of Justin Currie’s voice, something that could never be captured on digital.

The band took a break from touring to record the follow-up to Waking hours. My second show was at the Cambridge Corn Exchange (May 19 1992) as they toured in support of the soon to be released Change Everything. I remember this show quite clearly as it was right in the middle of my finals exams and I had had enough of Hobbes and Rousseau; so I dragged 2 non-fan friends all across from Coventry. A lengthy journey was rewarded with a fantastic show where we were treated to a sampling of new material. Iain in particular was quite on fire on lead.

By the time I last saw them (8th December 1992) at the Oxford Apollo, when again I dragged another non-fan friend, the dels were already pretty much well-known – Change Everything entered the album charts at number 2 – and tickets were scarce. So we were foisted onto the upper deck of the all-seater Apollo. Sitting at a del gig was never going to be fun, but the din of teenage girls screaming, a la crazed Beatles fans, at Justin made this a less than memorable gig. Funnily enough, I recall a solo Matthew Sweet opening for them.
