As Fox and Jenny were doing the dishes a knock sounded at the door. Walter left his paperwork to get the door. Jenny stuck her head out of the kitchen, intent on seeing what it was. "No peeking," Walter admonished and turned her back to the kitchen with a gentle swat. "Fox see to it Jenny doesn’t stick her nosy little nose out here again." "Gotcha," Fox said with a grin, and turned Jenny around blocking the door to the kitchen. "Let's get this finished so we can see what the surprise is." "You know, don't you." It was more a statement than a question. "Maybe." Fox grinned but wouldn't say another word. When Jenny tried to peek he simply moved her from the door with a laugh. Twenty minutes later Walter opened the kitchen door. "You can come out now." he said with a rare smile. Jenny looked at her father and his lover curiously, as she walked out of the kitchen into the living room. There pushed off to the side of the room was a baby grand piano. Jenny let out a squeal that threatened to pierce the ears of the men. "MY PIANO!!" she screamed. The next few minutes were filled with hugs and kisses as Jenny thanked her father and Fox. Tears of joy dripped down her face. "Thank You Papa, Thank You!" "Do you know how to play it?" Fox teased. Jenny made a face and a rude noise. "I might know a little," she said as she moved to the bench. Walter and Fox stood together as they watched her. Jenny reverently caressed the dark wood before opening the top. Her fingers caressed the keys like a lover without depressing them. She set the bench to the proper distance and sat down. "At least she knows what end to play," Fox joked. Walter pinched his lovers butt and murmured, "Behave." Fox just grinned as he rubbed his rump, then turned his attention to Jenny again. Jenny sat at the piano and moved her fingers, wiggling and limbering them up. She glanced at the men and smiled. She lifted her hands and placed them on the keys, then with a soft giggle, she began to play. It only took 8 notes before Walter and Fox were both laughing. Jenny was playing Chopsticks. "Very funny." Fox laughed, "Not bad for a squirt." "Who are you calling squirt old man?" Jenny shot back still playing the simple child’s song. "OLD?? ME??" Fox sputtered as Walter laughed all the harder and slapped Fox on the back. "Come on Grandpa," Walter said as he laughed still, "Let me take you to your rocker." "I’ll give you something to rocker." Fox muttered under his breath, then stopped, his head up like his namesake caught in a field. Jenny had stopped playing the simple melody, her fingers warmed up. She had changed to a new song. One infinitely more difficult. Walter and Fox both stood opened mouthed as the strains of "Flight of the Bumblebee" came from the piano. The apartment throbbed with the music. The pictures vibrated on the walls. "My God, she is good," Fox said in disbelief. Walter nodded, he knew Jenny could play but this was, fantastic. He never realized she was so gifted. Jenny played for hours , her fingers danced over the keys as she worked her way through Bach, and Motzart, popular songs and old classics. She played Irish jigs and boogie-woogie. Walter and Fox were awed by it all, they laughed and smiled, and even danced a bit. Then the music changed again, Fox recognized the piece from Phantom of the Opera "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" one of his favorite musicals of all times. The introduction to the song haunted him. He leaned closer to Walter, not wanting to be overly demonstrative in front of Jenny. Walter had no such problems. He pulled his lover into his arms, hugging him as he listed to the instrumental. A moment later both men were slack jawed in awe as Jenny began to sing the song. She sounded wonderful, as if she were made for the role. Her voice was an operatic soprano. They listened in stunned silence as her clear voice carried though the apartment, sounding older than her tender years. As the last note faded, Jenny stopped playing, suddenly aware she was not alone. She turned and looked at her father and his mate. Jenny blushed deeply at their expressions. "Sorry, I forgot anyone else was here." she wiped the tears from her cheeks. "Jenny, you never told me you could sing like THAT," Walter stated his voice filled with awe at the powerful, wonderful, amazing sound that came from his child. Jenny blushed at the praise, her head ducking down. "It's nothing Papa, I can't really sing that well, its just for fun." "Squirt, you have a real talent." Fox agreed with Walter, "look do me a favor, sing the title song from Phantom please, the last bit with the vocalizations." Jenny was very embarrassed, "You sing the male part with me Papa." Walter agreed. Fox knew Walter had a nice voice and often got him to sing to him. This would be a treat. Jenny began to play, her fingers dancing over the ivorys as she began the song, then she began to sing, her voice clear and pure, lifting in the room. Walter sang his part next, the Jenny again, their voices went back and forth, and blended when needed. Fox listened, leaning forward, his fingers keeping time as father and daughter sang the haunting melody. Finally it was to the part Fox wanted to hear. Walter sang in his rich baritone, "Sing, my Angel of Music!" Jenny obeyed her papa, her voice singing "He's there, the Phantom of the Opera... " the came the AHHHS each one getting higher and higher, Walter doing the encouragement as the Phantom, the piano stopped, and still Jenny sang, higher and higher her voice rose, till she went to the top and still more. Her voice sustaining that last note for an unbelievable time. The silence in the room was deafening as Walter and Fox just stared at the teenager. Jenny was turning redder by the minute. Fox finally broke the silence. "That’s it Walter, we can retire now, Jenny can support us with her singing." Jenny burst out laughing at that, she truly didn't realize how good she was. "I think we may have to work a few more years," Walter said, "I want Jenny through college before she begins working for a living." "Gee, thanks Papa." Jenny laughed, her fingers caressing the keys as she played a bit of nonsense. Walter checked his watch and was stunned to see it was after midnight. "Close it up Jenny, bedtime." "Aww Papa, I am not sleepy at all," Jenny protested even as she stilled her fingers. "I know but its still past your bedtime sweetie." Walter smiled, "And your going with us to work, so you need your rest." "OHHH you mean you need YOUR sleep." Teased Jenny. "getting old Pops?" "I’ll give you pops." Walter mock growled Jenny closed the lid of the piano, she laughed and hugged her father tightly. "Thank you for bringing the piano Papa, it means a lot to me." "I know its okay baby." Walter dropped a kiss on Jenny's head. Jenny blushed but gave Fox a hug as well. "Thanks old man," she teased. "Your welcome, squirt." Fox hugged back and playfully cuffed Jenny about the head. Jenny laughed again and ran off to bed, planning what she would wear for her day at the FBI.

Wishing I could hear your voice again
