One paragraph summary of the key idea summarizing the major idea of the section.
The main idea of the section is that Jesus is human like all other human beings, and that he is the full manifestation of what humans should strive to be in terms of Faith, relationships, and spirituality. Jesus experienced both human birth and death, and in dying Jesus was truly human. Despite Jesus' resurrection, his death symbolized his humanity because all humans are destined to die. Throughout much of the Gospel of Luke, Jesus displays very human characteristics, including the human condition. Jesus doubted God at his death, experienced temptation in the desert, and feared, or hoped to delay, his death by trying to suppress his popularity. Jesus also displayed the five inclinations of human nature in Lukes, gospel and throughtout his ministry. Jesus sought happiness both for himself and others by "seeking the good" (RB 17) and also taught others to do so in his many parables. Jesus also did what he could to survive and evade death, mainly by attempting to keep his miracles secret. However, Jesus did not seem to preserve his species sexually, an inclination of human nature, but rather I think he desired to preserve humans in Heaven by preaching love for God and other humans. Jesus lived and preached in communities with other humans and used intellect and will to spread God's message and help mankind. Jesus also strove to spread the Faith and teach others to be Faithful to God, and he did so mainly through his parables and many healings. The healing that Jesus performed in the Gospels showed the wonders of God and served as evidence of God's power for the people. Jesus' mabny parables, such as the prodigal son, good samaritan, and sermon on the mount, taught people to be kind and faithful to God and each other, and Jesus served as the best model of Faith for humanity.
List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this week.
The Golden Ratio-I had never heard of the Golden Ratio before this course, but I found it to be extremely interesting and possible and plausible evidence for God's existance. The ratio is defined as 1.61803399, and it is found "mysteriously embedded" (RB 154) in many natural bodies. I have always believed in God, but learning about the Golden Ratio reinforced my believe and served as some scientific evidence for God in my eyes.
-Argument from Religious ExperienceThe argument from religious experience suggests that people are compelled by nature to believe in some kind of higher power, namely God. Also, about 99% of the billions people in the world believe in a higher power. I find this statistic to be interesting and reinforcing, as it helps to strengthen evidence for a God who created us to be with Him. If God does exist, then He would make humans to desire Him, and because 99% believe in a higher power, I think the statistic points toward a true God. God is also a "crutch" that we use for help and support in times of pain and suffering.
Five Basic Inclinations of Human Nature-The Five Basic Inclinations of Human Nature are five characteristics that humans seem to naturally possess. The Five Inclinations are to seek happiness, preserve oneself in existance, preserve the species, live in community with others, and to use intellect and will and know the truth and use free will. The five inclinations together suggest that humans desire liberty, life and happiness. I believe these inclinations to be true and I believe that these instincts have a source. God created humans, and He placed these instincts in them. Of course God wants humans to be happy, life life and continue life, and to unite as human beings and discover knowledge. In creating humans with free will and reason, I think God allowed humans to accomplish the desires of the five inclinations. Furthermore, the five inclinations help to portray and explain the humanity of Jesus.
