I can't say exactly when it was that we went here, but earlier in the day we were in Beck Ranch Cave near Round Rock. Go Here for that story.
So anyways, Scott was supposed to meet us at Beck Ranch to help clean it up. We finally met him as we were exiting the cave. There were a couple more people with us. One girl and two guys. Scott decided it was time for us to see a real cave. It was time for Buttercup.
I had been in Buttercup before with Scott and Jim. Jim had to stop short because he didn't have his flashlight or something. Scott and I got all the way down to the good part, and I knew I had to be back for some more. But, I digress.... So we all decide to head over to Buttercup. Jim calls Kara and tells her to join us. We headed down the road and decide to stop off at Chik Fil-A to get some grub before our trip. We walked in and everyone was staring us us, being all dirty from Beck Ranch. We got our food, which took forever for some reason and kinda ate it in the lobby while everyone else was buying theirs. I'm not sure where exactly we met Kara (maybe it was at Boulevard Cave). We all then drove over to the preserve. We kinda have to park on the side of the neighborhood road, which makes it a little strange. But we did and got out and hiked over to the cave. All the caves are locked with gates. Buttercup drops about 8 feet to a small room. Getting into this room is a little tricky. It's tight fit. We all start going in, one by one. The first obstacle was the "White Jaws of Death", a tight squeeze between two big boulders, slightly sharp as well. Past this was more boulders you had to crawl over before you got to a drop of about 6 feet, called "Dime Pit". At the bottom of Dime Pit the passage continued on to "Dollar Pit", The passage dropped off a couple feet into a crystal-clear stream passage. And boy that water was cold. It was about 3 feet deep where we were. The pic here On and on we went, walking, crawling, and swimming. There were little travertine dams here and there which looked pretty cool. It was like we were on a different planet. We came to one point where it opened up a bit. In this room, there were thousands of formations everywhere and off to the left side, the ceiling went up for about 20 feet. It seemed like this would be the only place you would be safe if the cave flooded. which was about a 15-foot drop down. It looks pretty cool. It is also kinda tricky to maneuver down as well. We all got down to the bottom after awhile. At the bottom of Dollar Pit was a room which led to another room. Solution rock lined the walls. It looked awesome. There was also a lot of mud on the floor. Going into the next room, there was a hole in the wall that you had to climb through. This rock was sharp too so you had to be careful. Then you had to squeeze through another tight spot. This led you into a small passage that you had to crawl through on your hands and knees. It got worse. The passage got a lot smaller and started twisting left and right and seemed to be getting smaller. Not fun if you are claustrophobic. But finally the madness ended...
shows what it looked like at the beginning. After we all got into the water passage, we started wading through. There were stalagtites forming from the ceiling everywhere. The acoustics were really cool too because of the echoing. As we got further down the passage, the ceiling got taller and we were able to walk.
After this room, it was more of the same stuff until eventually we got to a hole in the floor which dropped about 4 feet into a stream passage that was about 4 feet deep.
