Airman's Cave Trip #5 (2-8-04)

OK, so I had been working at this new Dell location as a temp for awhile and things were getting a little boring so I thought it was about time for a caving trip. I started talking to a couple people about it, who seemed interested. Then I decided we were gonna go on the following Monday. So I made this flyer and gave it to some people at work who were all interested and excited. There was a list of things to bring and where to meet and everything. I put my number on the bottom and told people to call me if they had any questions. I did tell people to call me Sunday night though.

So Sunday night rolls around, no one calls and I decide there is no trip. One problem though. One guy, Israel, who I gave the flyer to seemed like he wanted to go and even asked me "So you're gonna be there right?" and I was like "Of course." He never called I was just hoping he wouldn't show up. Tuesday at work I find out that he did show up with a lot of his friends so I felt kinda bad. Everyone else didn't show though. So I apologized to him and I got to hear everyone else's excuses. So I tell them I'll plan out another trip.

So then, on February 7th, I am hungry giving a massage to a client so I call Jim up and ask if he wants to go eat. He says yes and we meet at Moe's. "Welcome to Moe's!" I wait about 20 minutes for him to show up. He brings Jennifer with him. We go inside and start eating and begin talking about caving. Then all of a sudden we decide to go the next day. Jennifer had never gone before but was down. So it was settled. We were going caving.

I get hom and try to call some more people to go. I thought this guy Jesse was gonna go, but he flaked out. I called Mario and he said he would go. I tried to get Eddie to go but just didn't want to.

The next day I gt up, got all my stuff ready and waited for Mario. I called Jesse's house and asked if Jesse was there. Some lady answered "No and don't call here anymore." I didn't know this lady and I know I called the right number. Anyways, Jesse was out. Mario came over and we got our things together and took off.

We got to the 360 access and waited for Jim and Jennifer. We had everything ready. Finally they got there. We got all our stuff and walked down the trail to the entrance. I got my camera out and tried to take a picture. Wouldn't ya know it the stupid thing didn't work. And it actually rewound my film all the way back inside the container so I couldn't even use it anymore. And it did the same thing with the next roll of film. POC. So I left the camera outside hidden. We were finally ready. Jim went first, then Jennifer, then Mario. I was a little nervous because I hadn't gone through the keyhole in awhile. After going in a ways, it was no problem....just like old times. I was the last one in. We all gathered in the big hallway after the keyhole.

After getting ready we go to the end of the big passage and get on our stomach. From here until the passage makes a big turn to the left is the hardest part of the cave, if you don't go very far. It's almost all on your stomach and hands and knees. It gets kinda tiring. So on and on we went all the way until right before One-Legged Man. We stopped there for a rest. Jennifer and Mario were pretty small and we suggested they try it before they decided not to. So we went through the bypass and got a little AC action which was nice.

After getting through the crossroads and over the vertical crawl, we got to the Gallery. Jennifer made a face on the ceiling and I made a huge arm curling a dumbbell. I put it next to my toilet. So after another rest we went through the walking passage and all the way to Killer Crawl. Jim went down to take a look again, so did Jennifer and me. Mario stayed back. So it was time for the return journey.

Everything went pretty smoothly, no problems. The stomach crawls near the very end were getting kinda hard but we made it. And then the keyhole. Now that I think about it, the keyhole is one of the funnest things to do. Everyone made it out ok. Jim and I were pretty dirty but Jennifer and Mario weren't that bad. I guess their size made the difference.

We walked back, I changed and then we all went to Rudy's for some good BBQ. I started calling people left and right to play some basketball. And later on we did play. We had about 10 people and we played some pretty fun games. I also persuaded some people to come caving with us next time (hopefully).

The End
