*UNLUCKY STARS*

By Lora and Christen
“There it is.” Davy Jones said to his life long friend Peace. They knew each other their whole life. They were like brother and sister and they always looked out for each other. Now they were going through High School and weren’t going to be able to look out for each other like they used to. They both walked up the stairs and walked in the double doors that led into the school building. They stood there in the middle of the school and looked at each other. The first bell just rang. “My classroom is down here.” Peace said sadly pointing down the left hallway. “Yeah, mine is down here.” Davy said pointing down the right hallway. “Well I guess I should get going. See you at lunch right?” “That’s right luv. Lunch, I will wait for you right here.” Davy replied They gave an each other a hug then went their separate ways to their classrooms. All morning they were thinking of each other. They have always had a brother sister like relationship and never thought about taking it further then that but the feelings they had for each other was something different. Finally after five classes it was lunchtime. Something everyone looked forward to. Peace and Davy just wanted to see each other. Davy was waiting at the exact spot he said he would. They walked to lunch talking about what happened during their morning classes and wondered what was in store for the afternoon classes. Lunch was all over to soon and they had to go the their own class rooms. All throughout the rest of the day they kept their minds on each other waiting for the bell to ring so they could once again be together. The bell finally rang and Davy busted out of the right corridor as Peace came busting out of the left corridor. They saw each other, which drove them to run faster. They finally met in the middle. Davy grabbed Peace and spun as if they were the only ones there. Davy leaned forward and kissed Peace with all the passion a 14-year-old could have. Peace accepted the kiss and when they finally broke the kiss Davy grabbed Peace’s hand and they ran out the door to get on the bus. Both of them smiling from ear to ear. That was four years ago now it is 1963. Ever since that one little kiss they have been inseparable. The love for each other has only grown bigger with each new day. This was their senior year and both were planning on going to college. Davy was always singing and acting in school, he loved music and the arts and hoped after college that he could be a musician and Peace would be his manager. “She is really good at stuff like that.” Davy would always say. They school year was great. They had most of their classes together and they were always busy with something. Peace couldn’t wait till Prom. She had been wait for that for 4 years! Just to go with Davy and now it was senior year! Davy didn’t show it as much as Peace but he was pretty excited about it too. They finished the first semester with flying colors. A’s and B’s, even in Biology! When they came back to school after a wonderful Christmas break they started new semesters with new grades. By this time Davy was getting gigs at some pretty big clubs. He was even lucky enough to land a gig at the same club that then unknown group called the Beatles would play. Davy luckily played before and not after. The months passed then the day came. PROM! The seniors were sent home early to get ready. Davy and Peace rushed home to get ready. Peace put on a long black beautiful skirt that dragged the ground and had a blue butterfly on the skirt, a top that matched perfectly.

Only two strings covered her stomach that drove Davy crackers. Her hair was up with strands of hair falling down near her face. In the house to the right of Peace, Davy was putting on his black tux with a black bow tie, the same as Peace’s dress. He finally finished fixing his bow tie, and was ready to walk out the door. When there was a phone call. His mum answered it and then hung up. “Davy dear the limo will be here in a minute.” “Okay, thanks Mum.” Davy got his corsage ready. The limo pulled up and Davy ran out the door. Davy had been saving for this since school started. That is why he started singing and acting, to get extra money. He told the limo driver to pull up to Peace’s house while Davy ran up to knock on the door. Peace’s mum answered. “She will be done in a minute.” “Alright, thank you.” Davy stood at the bottom of the stairs nervously waiting. He didn’t know why he was nervous but he was. Finally after what seemed like forever Peace came down the stairs, Davy’s jaw literally hit the floor. He always knew she was beautiful but didn’t realize how beautiful she was. Peace was just as shocked as Davy was. Davy wasn’t the type to dress up, which he looked very good when he did. When Peace reached the bottom of the stairs Davy grabbed her hand very gently and place a kiss on her hand, just like an English gentleman should. After a few pictures were taken Davy opened the door for Peace and she saw the limo sitting in front of her house she was very happy about it and surprised, Davy offered her his arm and they walked to the limo arm in arm. They finally got to the prom to find out that they were one of the few that got limos. Limos cost a lot and teenagers in Manchester didn’t have a lot of money. The two of them walked in the double door arm in arm like they owned the place. Every girl watched Davy’s every move as did the boys watch Peace’s every move. The both of them danced the night away. When the ballot for King and Queen came around they were surprised to see their names on there, and of course they voted for themselves. After all the ballots were added together they announced King and Queen. Davy and Peace stood in the back hoping against all hope they would win; highly unlikely but they hoped anyway. “And the King for the 1962-63 school year for Manchester High goes to...David Jones!” Everyone clapped and cheered for Davy, he gave Peace a kiss and walked up to the stage. They crowned him and then started to announce Queen. “The Queen of the 1962-63 school year for Manchester High goes to...you know this was a close race this year but Ms. Peace Starr will be Queen!” Peace was speechless! Two of the most popular guys walked her up to the stage where she met Davy and Davy grabbed her and spun her around and kissed her with all the passion and love that he had for her. She felt as if she was in Heaven. Nothing was going to tear her away from Davy. Nothing, she thought. But how sadly she was wrong.

“Come on Micky you have to go!” Spirit said dragging Micky into the New York City High School. “But I don’t wanna go! Don’t make me go PLEASE” Micky begged. “No, Micky you have to go, I told your mom that I would get you to school and make you go.” Micky finally gave up and went peacefully. Spirit held onto his arm just in case he decided to run. They finally got into the school. “Well, I better walk you to class so you don’t try to run.” Micky said playfully pulling Spirit in the direction of her class. They finally got to her classroom. “Well babe, I will meet you at your locker for lunch okay?” Micky said casually. “Yeah, and you better be there too! I would hate to think you left school!” Spirit joked. They both laughed at the thought of Micky running out of school before lunch. Then the first bell sounded. “Looks like I gotta go, and you too. See ya at lunch.” Spirit said walking into her classroom “Spirit.” As Spirit turned around too ask what, Micky surprised her with one quick, sweet kiss. “See ya at lunch.” Micky said and walked off Spirit stood there for a minute dumbfounded. She walked into her classroom still dumbfounded and thinking. “Wow! I never thought that he would feel the same way about me. I never thought a brother and sister relationship like ours would be more then that! This summer everything was a blur. I didn’t know what I felt but now I do and now I know what he feels. Wow.” Spirit thought about Micky all day until lunch came around. When the lunch bell sounded Spirit was almost running down the hall to see Micky. Spirit started to reach the hall where Micky said he would be waiting, and there he was just like he said. Micky reached out and his long muscle filled tan arms and got Spirit in an embrace she would never forget. They stayed in that embrace for a moment and let the thought of them being more then friends set in their mind. They soon ran down to lunch, Micky was a growing boy and needed his food. That was the fall of freshman year and now it is Spring of Senior year. Senior year Micky and Spirit ruled the school. Everyone knew them and they knew everyone but had different opinions about all of them. They didn’t like preps or jocks. Even though at times they were looked at as preps. Throughout senior year everyone knew that the 2 of them was going to win Prom King and Queen. Spirit and Micky didn’t care about that; they left that for the head of the cheerleading squad and the Quarterback of the football team, like every Prom. After four years of hard work senior prom was here. The both of them were quite excited. All Micky wanted to do is to see Spirit in a dress. She never wore them and Micky knew she had a great body to show. That evening at the Dolenz house. “Hey, mom, do you think I can borrow the Chevy tonight for prom?” “Which one? Your father’s or mine?” Micky’s Dad was a famous actor and stayed out in LA, filming but said he would be home to see Micky graduate. “Dad’s, it will be perfect for Spirit, she loves a cherry red ‘55 Chevy.” “I don’t know it is your father’s and he loves that car. Yeah go ahead and take it if he says anything I will talk to him.” “Thanks a lot Mom!” Micky said giving his mom a kiss before he walked out the door. Micky walked outside and unlocked the car and headed over Spirit’s house that was across the street. As soon as he got there and knocked on the door Spirit answered the door in an aqua skirt that lightly dusted the ground, with a matching top that had fringe on the bottom to cover her stomach, her hair was up and perfect to Micky.

As she stepped out the door Micky was in shock! He had never seen her look so good, and remembered why he loved her. Her complete innocence and sweetness which showed through with that dress. After Micky got over his shock ness he softly placed a kiss on Spirit’s right cheek. They walked across the street to the car and Spirit was impressed that he was driving it. Micky held the door open for her and she got in Micky ran around to the other side and hopped in. They finally got to the prom and everyone was in awe of them. They just knew that Spirit and Micky were going to win King and Queen. As soon as they got there they started dancing and didn’t stop. They were just about to announce King and Queen when Micky and Spirit were in the back of the crowd slow dancing. “Spirit” Micky whispered in her ear. “Hmmmm?” Spirit answered back. “I wrote something for you.” “You did? What is it?” Spirit said and stopped dancing. “Keep dancing.” Spirit kept dancing and put her head on Micky’s chest and Micky started to sing. “Sometime in the morning a simple thought may occur to you, and you hold her, and tell her all the things you never told her. Your love has shown me things I never thought I could see; I didn't know, it could be done so easily, now I know you're where it is for me.” Spirit felt tears well up in her eyes. “Sometime in the evening you're sitting there by the fireside and she'll touch you and you'll realize how much you never knew before, how much you couldn't see, you didn't know it could be done so easily now you know she's all a girl could be.” They now started to announce King and Queen. “Now in her childlike eyes you see the beauty there you know it was always there and you need no longer wear a disguise.” “The King and Queen for the Senior year 1962-63 is...Micky and Spirit!” Everyone started to clap but Micky kept singing. “Sometime in the morning you'll just reach out and she will be there, close as the summer air. Sometime in the morning she will be there.” “That’s okay, you can just give the King and Queen to the runners up, we don’t want it.” Micky announced. Everyone was in shock. Someone didn’t want to be King and Queen! Micky now turned his attention back to Spirit. She had tears rolling down her face. As Micky wiped one away he said. “I wrote that for you, every single last word of it is the truth.” All Spirit could do is kiss him. She kissed him with every raw emotion, every bit of passion she had. The two of them could have stayed in that kiss forever, but nothing lasts forever.

Chapter 3

May of 1963

Davy and Peace both graduated and was getting ready to go look at colleges the coming summer. One day Davy and Peace were looking at Manchester University, which looked real good. When they finished they went over Davy’s and when they walked in the door Davy’s Mum said, “Davy, I need to talk to you for a minute.” “Okay Mum, luv you can go up to my room I will be up there in a minute.” Davy said to Peace. Peace did as Davy said and went upstairs and hung around his room. “Okay what is it Mum?” Davy asked worriedly “Well, dear it is some good news and bad news.” “What's the bad news?” Davy asked “Well your father got hurt on the job.” “Is he okay? Please tell me he is okay.” “He’s fine but he won’t be able to work for awhile, which means no money coming in. We need you to go and work bring money in for your sisters and us.” “What about college?” Davy asked. “Sorry, son but it doesn’t look like you will get to go this year.” “With all this bad news what could possibly be good?” Davy said almost in tears. “Well, I got a call from a Mr. Richard McCartney, he is head of all new talent for Broadway in America, he heard you sing and perform and says he wants you to be in ‘Oliver’. Isn’t that great!” “Really? I’m going to America?” Davy said excitedly. “Yep, your plane leaves Sunday evening” Then sadness set in his face. “SUNDAY EVENING! What about Peace, I just can’t leave her!” “Davy, you have no choice unless you want us living in the streets. I know you love her dear but we are your family.” “Let me think on this.” “Think, Davy! This is your family you’re putting out.” Davy went upstairs with his head down. What about Peace he kept thinking. Right now all he wanted was to hold Peace and let her know how much he loved her because he knew he would have to go to America without her. Davy walked in the door of his room to find Peace looking at the pictures of them that was all over his room. She turned around when she heard the door shut. “What’s wrong? Something’s wrong.” “We need to talk.” Davy said plainly. Peace knew what that meant; he didn’t want to see her anymore. Davy extended his arms, and Peace got into his arms. They just sat there for a moment. Finally Davy broke the silence. “Luv, I have something to tell you.” “Okay, Davy. You can tell me anything remember that.” “Well, my mum just told me that my father got hurt on the job and now I have to support the family. But that’s not the worst of it.” Davy said “Do I want to hear the worst of it?” Peace asked “You have to hear it; I got a part in ‘Oliver’, on Broadway in America. People seem to think I could make it as a singer.” Davy explained. “That sounds great and all but Broadway is in AMERICA and we are in ENGLAND. There is a whole ocean between there!” Peace said loudly. “Shhh. It’s okay. Too bad you can‘t come with me” Davy said. “Davy, you know my mum won’t let me go to America with you.” “Yeah, I know. But I have no choice but to go, my plane leaves Sunday evening, which is only two days away.” Peace started to cry, her one true love in her life was going to have to leave unwillingly. As Davy held Peace tight trying to comfort her, he shed a few tears of his own. He tried so hard to be strong in front of Peace but having her there and realizing that this maybe the last time to hold your one true love was heart breaking. They stayed there all evening just thinking and talking and enjoying every second of life they had together before Davy left. Peace looked at the time and realized she had to go, she didn’t want to all she wanted to do is stay tightly wrapped in Davy’s arms all night long. As she got up to leave Davy gave her a long, meaningful, passionate kiss. Then Peace left with tears in her eyes. She got home and told her mum all about it. All weekend long she spent every waking minute with Davy. She helped him pack his stuff and he got ready to leave. Sadly Sunday came too soon. That morning Davy and Peace spent packing every last thing. By the time they were done with that it was time for the plane. Everyone was there to see Davy off to America. Peace held Davy’s favorite picture of them. It was at Prom, and it was them with their crowns on dancing the “Royal Dance”. Davy, said good bye to everyone, his mum, dad, his three younger sisters and then there was Peace. All the reason to stay. He walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her one last time; tears started falling down his face and into her hair. Peace was crying her eyes out on Davy’s shoulder wishing there was some way he didn’t have to go but there wasn’t. Davy saw what picture she was holding and Davy took it and tore it right down the middle and handed her the half with him on it and said, “We are apart for now but when we find each other again we will be whole like the picture.” Peace held the picture tightly, as did Davy. “Final boarding call from Manchester, England to New York City, New York, America.” A man on the loud speaker said. Davy gave Peace one last hug and kiss and boarded the plane with tears rolling down his face harder then ever. Peace watched in silence as Davy boarded the plane she stood there at the window till the plane took off, as the plane reached for the sky she broke down, she held a somewhat brave face for Davy, but now he is gone, and will never know if she will see him again. She kept looking at the picture and thinking of every second she was with Davy, every kiss, every touch, everything, she wondered if those hands would ever touch her again, would those lips ever kiss her again, would that voice ever say ’I love you’ Finally Peace’s mum, got her home, and she went to bed and stayed there and wouldn’t come out.

****On the plane****

The second Davy walked on the plane he broke down as well. He held a brave face but let it all out now. Davy had never had a life when Peace wasn’t in it and now he was going to be an ocean away, how was he going to make it in America?

Chapter 4

Graduation went GREAT. Finally Micky and Spirit was out of High School and ready to hit the real world and hit it together!

One night at the Dolenz house.

<Ring...Ring...Ring...>  “Hello?” Micky answered “Hey Dad, what’s happening?” Micky stood there listening to what his Dad was telling him then a sudden frown appeared on his always smiling face. “No, Dad I don’t want to. Dad please, don’t make me. What about Spirit? She is everything to me!” Micky hung up the phone hastily and stormed up to his room. His mother quickly hurried behind him. It wasn’t like Micky to be upset and storm out of a room. Micky reached his room and slammed the door. Soon after there was a knock at the door and a familiar voice. “Micky dear, can I come in?” Said the familiar voice. “Yeah, you can come in.” Micky said and in walked his mom, the one that seemed to know all the answers. “Micky dear, who was that on the phone that you hung up on?” “Dad.” Micky said plainly. “Well what did he have to say?” “He said I have to move to L.A.” “Why? I thought you wanted to stay here and go to college with Spirit, then you said something about marriage.” “I do want to stay here but Dad said that there is going to be a new TV show and wants me to come and try out for it. He thinks I should become an actor, again. But Mom I want to stay here with Spirit and led a normal life.” “I heard you say something about Spirit, what did he say when you told him that?” “He said that there are many more girls like Spirit in L.A. some that are better then her, and that I would be better there then I am here. But Mom, there isn’t any other girls like Spirit, she is a one of a kind and she is mine all mine and if I leave and she can’t come, I don’t know how I would live. She is everything to me and more.” Micky had tears rolling down his face; just the thought of living life without Spirit was impossible. Micky’s mom walked over to her son and reached out to hold him as if he was a little boy crying for his mommy. They sat there for a while and just tried to comfort him. Finally Micky got up and said, “I need to go see Spirit” and Micky walked out of the room wiping tears away. He walked right out the front door and down the steps on the porch, walked across the lawn and onto the porch of Spirit’s house. He was just about to knock on the door when Spirit opened the door. “Hey, I was just about to come over!” Spirit said giving Micky a welcome hug and kiss. She could tell something was wrong. She grabbed his hand and they went out the door and they started walking down the street. “Micky what’s wrong?” “I have something to tell you. This is going to be one of the hardest things to tell you and live with but I have to.” Spirit’s heart sank to the ground. “Please don’t be what I am thinking he is going to say. Please no.” Spirit thought. Micky squeezed her hand tighter and took a deep breath and started to speak. “I just got a call from my dad, and he said he wants me to get back into acting. He said there is a TV show he wants me to try out for too.” Spirit felt tears well up in her eyes. “But you don’t have to go right? This is a choice you have right?” “I’m sorry, but whatever my dad says you do there is no choices but the ones he makes for you. Unfortunately, the only choice I have is to go.” Spirit’s welled up tears were now pouring down her face. The two of them went and sat on a bench at the park. Spirit sat there wrapped in Micky’s arms wishing and hoping that what he said wasn’t true. She just knew she was dreaming, but sadly she wasn’t and Micky was telling the truth. Later that evening instead of going home they went down the alley behind their houses then found a nice little cozy spot by a tree and they stayed all night long in each others arms, savoring every moment, kiss, hug and touch. Finally that morning, Spirit awoke to the singing and watching of Micky. “What are you doing, Micky” Spirit said sleepily. “Just singing and watching you sleep.” “Oh, okay. Do you think we should go home now before they have the cops looking for us?” “Yeah we NEED to but I don’t want to.” “I know what you mean I want to stay like this forever!” Spirit said snuggling closer to Micky. Micky held her closer for a moment then he heard and saw his sister Coco. “Here they are, MOM, here they are, right here!” Coco yelled at the top her lungs. Micky and Spirit got up and out of their embrace. “Where have you two been all night?” Micky and Spirit’s moms said in unison “We have been right here all night long.” Micky answered. “Come along Micky, your dad wants to talk to you” Micky’s mom said grabbing Micky’s arm from Spirit, she was able to pull Micky in for one last kiss before their mothers took them home. When Spirit got home she explained everything to her mom. Which her mom was really sad about it too because Micky was like the son she never had. But over at Micky’s house things were different. Micky’s father called again and told Micky that he had his plane ready to leave the airport in New York City the very next day. Micky was in shock and kept telling his dad that he didn’t want to go. He again hung up the phone hastily and went up to his room to pack the few things that was worth anything to him. It wasn’t that Micky didn’t have a lot of things but none of it was special to him. He saw his guitar and started strumming and singing, Sometime In the Morning. He played the last chord and then immediately saw his recorder and started recording. After he was packed up he ran over to Spirit’s and she was in her room just lying on her bed holding a picture of Micky and her from High School. She didn’t know Micky had walked in there till the door shut. “Micky!” She said jumping up and kissing him. “Well, I am all packed.” “Packed? When are you leaving?” Spirit said knowing she didn’t REALLY want to know. “Tomorrow morning.” “TOMORROW MORNING! But you can’t leave me Micky, you just can’t!” She said crying in Micky’s strong arms. They just stood there crying and holding each other. Micky and Spirit walked and just kept walking till found the park again. Spirit got on the swing and Micky pushed her. There they reminisced about when they were younger and they covered every major point in their lives and now here is another milestone to add to that list. That night, Micky was walked Spirit over to her house then started for his house to try and sleep till tomorrow morning but as he walked up the steps he heard his name being yelled out. “Micky, Micky.” Spirit yelled trying to catch up with him. Micky turned around and saw Spirit on his porch with him. “I can’t be without you tonight.” Spirit said. Micky grabbed her hand and grabbed the blanket that was on the porch and walked over to the hammock in the middle of the yard and there they cuddled all night long. Micky didn’t sleep that night at all. He just kept thinking of how he was going to go on not having the love of his life by his side. On the other hand though Spirit slept soundly all night. The feel of Micky by her side let her sleep soundly. “Micky, come on you need to get ready. Your plane leaves in two hours!” Micky’s Mom yelled as Coco ran over and literally threw the two sound bodies out of the hammock. Micky walked into his house as Spirit walked into hers and they both got ready and met out in their front yard. They were by each other’s side all morning then when they got to the airport, they were already boarding the plane. Micky said goodbye to his family and then Spirit’s Mom and then Spirit. Before he said goodbye he handed Spirit his recorder and said, “This is for you and never forget about me.” “Micky, I will never forget about you and I will die trying to get to you again!” And right there and then they kissed for the last time. Spirit was starting to cry as was Micky. Micky finally got on the plane with lots of hesitation. Spirit stood there holding the recorder Micky gave her only minutes earlier. She watched as the plane took off and then she lost it. Micky is gone and out of her life. What was she going to do? After her mom got her in the car and was on the way home she played the recorder. “Hey babe, it’s me. I sang this to you at prom. Remember? Actually, I sing this to you all the time. This is the first time you will hear it with music. Just don’t ever forget me because I will never forget you.” Then Micky played and sang “Sometime In The Morning” Spirit cried even harder. She went home and listened to that over and over.

****Moments before on the plane****

He finally found his seat and there he thought about what life without Spirit would be like. He just couldn’t picture it but here he was going to live it. “God, help me.” He said as the plane took off

Chapter 5

After Davy left, Peace was in a pit of depression. Everyone said that she was just faking it all and she was fine, but the people that really knew her, knew different. They couldn’t see how a person could have that much love for another that they would fall into depression. People back then didn’t know love. They would get married to the first person they found so they didn’t have to go to war. Only a few people then were lucky enough to experience love. Throughout 1963-1965 Peace went through depression, and went to many places and none of them helped. The only thing that would help would be Davy. Most of the time she stayed in bed and just held the picture Davy handed her and kept replaying the day at the airport. “I shouldn’t have let him leave, I just shouldn’t have! I am so dumb! I should have gone with him no matter the cost!” Peace thought to herself. But one day something caught her eye in summer 1966.

***Over across the ocean***

Davy was doing quite well after a nice run in “Oliver” he was asked to do a new television show called the Monkees, he agreed and life for him was great but there was something missing from it all and he knew what it was. It was Peace. He still wanted to be with her. He kept the picture of her everywhere, in his wallet, in his suitcase and in his car and everywhere else he could put one. But the most special one was the one from Prom. When Davy went to meet the guys from the new TV show The Monkees. First there was Mike, he was a nice guy, from Texas, and there was Peter. He was neat; he knew lots of instruments and loved music. Then there was Micky. Davy seemed to click with Micky. Micky was from New York and was also forced to get into the showbiz circuit. Micky also had to leave the love of his life, her name was Spirit. Micky carried a picture of her everywhere, Davy saw the picture and she was quite pretty, but nothing compared to Davy’s baby, Peace. Finally, the Monkees TV show aired and Monkeemania hit. Their first song “Last Train To Clarksville” hit number one and their show was loved by millions! Teenage girls went crazy over them! All the girls seemed to like Davy! Peace was in the middle of all the Monkeemania, trying to get her hands on everything Monkees and Davy! Records, 45’s, dolls, everything! One night as she was thinking of Davy like she normally did she said to herself. “I am going to America! I am going to be with Davy once again and no one is going to take me away from him, no one!” Then she went to sleep peacefully, something she hasn’t done in a long time.

***On the other side of the Atlantic***

Davy lay in bed thinking of Peace and wishing she were there to share the good times with. Davy was having so much fun as a Monkee but it would be the best if Peace were there to share it with him. Davy finally went to sleep remembering Prom night and fell asleep peacefully.

Chapter 6

Spirit also had a rough time after Micky left. She stayed in bed for about a week then thought to herself. “If Micky were here he wouldn’t let me stay in bed all the time he would tell me to go out there and make something of myself. He always supported me in whatever I did even if he didn’t like it.” Spirit thought to herself. “I just hope he is doing alright in L.A.” that was the thoughts of Spirit only one week after Micky left, since then she went to college and she is still going. She wanted to be a movie director, if she was a movie director then she could direct Micky, but it was very odd for a woman to direct a show or movie but Spirit was determined! One night while Spirit was sitting there doing her homework and watching TV this commercial came on.

“Here they come...
This fall,
Davy, Micky, Peter and Mike are
THE MONKEES!
6:30/5:30 central on NBC!”

Spirit started screaming and screaming, and her mom rushed down the stairs to see what was the matter. “Honey, what’s wrong?” “MOM, MOM, Micky is going to be in a new TV show called the Monkees! I have to get down there a see him!” “What do you mean you have to get down there and see him?” “I mean exactly what I said, I am going to L.A. to see Micky and NOBODY is stopping me this time, I realize now I shouldn’t have let him leave without me!” “Spirit, honey, Micky was just teenage love, just puppy love. You will have many more loves in your life, just stay here and don’t go to L.A.” “What are you talking about puppy love? Micky was my love. He was no little crush, I loved him with all my heart and I still do and I am going to L.A. wether you like it or not!” Spirit said storming off to her room to pack. “But honey what about your college, you are so close to finishing it would be dumb not to finish now.” “I have my bachelors, and besides Micky always told me that he would take care of me and that I would never need to work because working is the man’s job.”

****Meanwhile across the country in L.A.****

Micky was doing pretty good in L.A. He was going to have a weekly show on TV starting September 12th and he found three great friends. First there was Mike, he was cool, he was looked as the leader and he had a wife and kid, then there was Pete, he was cool too but he got stoned a lot, lastly there was Davy. Davy was from England, like Micky he left the love of his life as well. They would sit there and talk about what it was like before becoming a Monkee. Micky constantly talked about Spirit as did Davy talk about Peace. Micky and Davy realized that not only did they have a lot in common, they thought that if Spirit and Peace were to meet they would become great friends like Micky and Davy. One evening... “Hey Micky, after we get a break from all of this, I am going to go to England for a bit, would you like to come?” “Sure Davy, but I was going to go to see Spirit when I got the chance.” “Oh, hey man I got an idea, how about me and you go up to New York stay there for a few days then Spirit and you can come to England, I know Spirit would love to see England, you told me she has.” “Hey man that’s a great idea! I want to surprise her though, man seeing Spirit! That would be groovy to see her, I haven’t seen her since the summer of ‘63 and here it is almost the fall of ‘66!” Micky pondered. That evening he went home to the apartment that him and Davy shared, and went to bed and had Spirit on his mind. She has always been on his mind but Micky just knew they would be together again, he just knew it.

Chapter 7

Later that week that Peace saw Davy on TV, she was packed and had a ticket to the United States. Her mum was still against her going but she was over 18 and there wasn’t anything she could do about it, but beg and plead, which of course DIDN’T help. Finally the day came and Peace boarded the plane with her mum still begging. Peace was on her way to America and was happy she was going to see Davy. Her first plane change was going to be in New York, where she would meet someone she will never forget.

Chapter 8

“Mom, I’m going to LA, and I’m leaving now.” “Honey, don’t leave, please. Micky isn’t worth it. He is just another guy. Stay here and finish school please.” “Mom, I’m leaving and you may not ever see me again are you going to say bye?” “You better stay in touch, and I love you very much and you are always welcome home if you finally realize Micky isn’t worth it.” “I will stay in touch, and I love you too, and Micky is worth it.” This was Spirit’s last conversation she had with her mom before the taxi picked her up to go to the airport.

Chapter 9

Peace sat there at the waiting area thinking about Davy and what he was going to be like and everything else that had been on her mind since the time she saw Davy on TV as a Monkee. She was knocked out of concentration. “Is this seat taken?” A strange voice said. “No, not at all.” Peace said moving her stuff. As Peace moved her stuff her bag that was open fell and out spilled her pictures everywhere. Peace gasped and started picking them up. The stranger that sat beside her bent down and started helping. “Wow, these are really groovy pictures you have here. You went with Davy Jones?” “Yep, he was and still is the love of my life. That’s where I’m going now, is to LA to see him.” Peace said as the stranger handed her a few pictures. “You know” said the stranger, “that’s where I am headed too. Is L.A. to see the love of my life.” “Who is that? No wait, why should I ask. I never been to LA so why should I know who he is.” “You might just very well know who he is.” The stranger said handing Peace a picture. “Oh, my that’s you and Micky!” “Yep, My name is Spirit.” The “stranger” said, extending her hand. “My name is Peace.” She replied shaking hands. The two of them sat there and talked for awhile. They talked about Davy and Micky, and their lives before they left and what happened after they left, and everything in between. “Boarding all passengers from New York to Dallas and then on to LA.” “Well, I’ll see ya in Dallas, Peace.” “Yeah, it was good talking to you!” The two of them walked on the plane and found that their seats were right next to each other, they were both excited about that. They sat there and talked all the way from New York to Dallas then on the way from Dallas to L.A. When they were going in for a landing in L.A. Spirit looked out the window and said “Micky you are out there somewhere, and I am going to find you!”

Chapter 10

Finally, the two got off the plane and were on flat ground. They were almost kissing the ground! They both decided to stay in the same hotel and save a bit of money. They walked up to the Holiday Inn and got aroom. They decided they would go and try to see the guys tomorrow. Today they just wanted to sleep! It was already late and flying tires a person out. The next day they got up nice and early and got ready. After a nice morning breakfast discussing where they are going to go. After a good meal they went to the filming studio, thinking that would be the best place to go but so does a million other girls. Peace and Spirit worked their way up to the guards and they finally got up there but was only sadly disappointed when they were shoved back into the crowd. The girls went to the back of the crowd so they could discuss their next plan of action.“What are we going to do now?” Peace asked worriedly.“I don’t know but we kind of over looked the detail that they are rock stars now and they are untouchable. They are kind of like the Beatles!” “I know!” The two girls stood there thinking for a minute. Spirit started looking around. Peace noticed this.“What are you looking at?” “Nothing just walk casually and say nothing.” Spirit said grabbing her arm. The two walked in silence about a half a block down the sidewalk. They stood there for a second with Spirit looking all around. Finally Spirit grabbed Peace’s arm again and pulled her into the alley.“What are you doing?!” Peace asked rather sternly. “This is the alley beside the studio, I figure we might be able to sneak in a door or something.” “Hey that is a pretty good idea, let’s just see if it works!” Just then someone walked out of the door that was less then three feet away; it was a tall slender man, with dark hair. He looked right at the girls and grabbed the door, held it open for them and sighed. “Davy is in there.” The man said. When the girls got a look at his face they realized that it was Mike, from the Monkees. They said their thank yous and walked in the door ever so quietly. There was a large backdrop right in front of them and they heard voices. “Oh, look what you did Micky! You pissed off Mike and now he’s gone for the day!” “It’s not my fault he is so uptight and can’t take a joke!” “Okay, okay guys, peace, peace, please no fighting.” “Yeah, come on fellas we can do a few more scenes without Mike.” Just then Spirit kicked an old, dusty chair and it made the loudest racket. Everyone was silent. Then, jerked the backdrop and exposed them. “Gotcha!” Micky yelled quite loudly. Quickly his face became very astonished. “Sp...Sp...Spirit!” Micky said quietly gently rolling his hand down a beautiful strand of her hair. Just then “Who is it Micky? I know it can’t be your fans you don’t have any!” Davy said jokingly walking up to Micky. Soon Davy saw Peace. “Pe...Pe...Peace, your here!” Davy said rubbing her cheek ever so gently. All four of them stood there in awe of each other for amoment before a curious Peter interrupted it. “Guys?! We need to start shooting!” Just then Peter saw the girls and immediately knew who it was. Peter had heard all about the girls. Peace was Davy’s girl and Spirit was Micky’s girl. Peter quietly turned around and walked away. After Peter left, the girls jumped in their guys’ arms and Micky and Davy carried them right out the door. All four of them were so into each other they failed to hear director Bob Raffelson shouting for them to come back! The guys took their girls to their own car.

Chapter 11

Davy took Peace to his 1966 red Ford Mustang. Peace saw the car and was astonished. That is the car of her dreams! “You like the car? I know it’s the car you have always wanted.” “I LOVE THE CAR!” Peace said laying a nice kiss on Davy’s cheek. Davy turned and faced Peace and for the first time in over three years Davy placed his lips on hers. Peace never forgot what his lips felt like on hers but they felt the best right then at that moment! After that mind blowing kiss, they both got into the car and headed for the best and most quite Mexican food restaurant that Davy knew of.

Chapter 12

Micky carried Spirit all the way out to his car, lying kisses all over her. She was loving every second. Finally they got to his car. A 1966 tie-dyed VW van. Micky walked them over to the passenger sidedoor and before he opened the door he looked directly in Spirit’s eyes and knew the love she had when heleft was still there three years later, with that lookMicky leaned in and kissed Spirit. Spirit had been saving her kisses for three years and she was ready to lett hem all out to Micky and only Micky. After that longand winding kiss, Micky opened the door for Spirit andshe got in, Micky ran over to the other side of thevan and hopped in and started the engine up but not without a kiss first. The two headed down to the nearest pizza joint. They sat there and talked for hours about what Spirit did after Micky left and Micky talked about his short run of walk-ons on different shows. Micky couldn’t take his eyes off of Spirit. He was just amazed that Spirit was there with him and she wasn’t going to leave without him. After the lovely pizza they headed to his apartment that he shared with Davy. When they got there they noticed that Davy and Peace were there as well. After they were introduced to each other, they just sat and talked catching up on the three years they missed out on and also finding out about one another.

Chapter 13

In the coming months the Monkees became more popular with each night falling, and Peace and Davy, and Spirit and Micky’s relationships became closer. They quickly closed the gap that was wedge between them years ago.Thanksgiving came and went “I 'm a Believer”made it to number one. Christmas came, and so did Davy’s birthday, New Year’s, Spirit's birthday AND then came a long Valentine’s Day. Everybody was really excited about Valentine’s Day. It was the day where everyone could show their loved ones how much they really love them. But to Peace and Spirit, everyday was a Valentine’s Day.The Friday morning of Valentine’s Day, they all got up and the guys had to work that day, so they handed the girls some cash and said, “Go and get new, big, fancy dresses, get your hair done and everything else girls do to look fancy and meet us here at 6:30 sharp. The girls went shopping gladly. They hit all the big namestores in LA and got two beautiful dresses they knew the guys would love. After they got their dresses, which took most of the day. There were just so many dresses, colors, styles, and shoes. They decided to get their hair done next, along with their nails AND toenails. Luckily that was easier then picking dresses! Finally they were all done and headed home because it was 5:30 already, and they still needed to get dressed. When they got back to the apartment, no one was home so they ran upstairs and got dressed and just as they were putting the finishing touches of hair spay on their hair, the guys called them down from outside. They went down there to find two limos and their guys dressed in black tuxes. As the girls walked down Davy could clearly see the beauty that lay before him. Peace came down those stairs in a red gown that lightly swept the ground. Micky’s eyes widened as he watched Spirit walk down the stairs in her flowing blue velvet dress with so much grace. He knew tonight was the night.

The girls walked towards their guys and gave them a kiss hello. They haven’t seen each other all day long! As Davy gave Micky a wink that said, tonight-is-the-night. The girls said bye to each other and got into the limos. Spirit and Micky’s limo headed west to the Strawberry Fields Forever Ballroom. The fanciest place on the West Side of L.A.Peace and Davy’s limo headed east to the Octopus’s Garden, the fanciest ballroom on the East Side of L.A. Spirit and Micky arrived at the ballroom and didn’t have to wait long to get in. On Valentine’s Day it is always packed. After they got to their seats and ordered dinner they sat there amazed. Finally together again. Like Micky said years ago, true love always finds a way, or was that a Beatles song. Spirit thought. Their stare from one another was broken when the waiter came by and brought them their food, Spirit had Shrimp Teriyaki. Micky had T-boneSteak. The boy could eat a horse! After a lovely dinner Micky grabbed Spirit’s hand and led her out to the dance floor. The band Wings was just about to start. The two of them danced like they were the only ones there. They danced to every song that was played. Davy & Peace got to the ballroom before the crowd got there and was able to get good service. After the waiter brought them the finest wine they ordered. Peace had the Lobster dinner, and Davy had Lamb chops. The two sat there in silence before it was interrupted by a waiter knocking over a stack of glasses, all the glasses came tumbling down with a mighty crash and Peace and Davy sat there laughing as hard as they could. They sat there and talked before the waiter brought them their food. They ate their food gracefully tying to show people they could look preppy. After that lovely meal they had coffee flavored kisses and a bit of conversation before they too hit the dance floor. Davy took Peace out on that dance floor with her dress flowing and hair swaying and stars in her eyes, and started dancing to the great band, which was called Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. They danced the fast ones with joy and slow ones with love. Micky took Spirit’s hand and led her out of the limo and on to the cooling beach. They walked hand in hand watching the moon reflect off of the flowing waves. Finally they found a nice little spot on the sand and sat down. And talked till Micky pointed out a plane. “Davy, I’m not too sure about this. I have never ridden on a plane this small before.” “It’s okay; I’m here with you.” Peace and Davy said as they boarded a small plane. Finally they took off and Peace was nervous till she felt Davy’s warm hand in her’s. They sat there and looked out of the window watching the busy city below. They went across every possible landmark in L.A. Finally they were reaching the beach. Peace noticed someone writing in the sand. “Micky, look at that plane, it has some message on the back.” Spirit said pointing towards the plane. “Micky, Micky? What are you doing?” Spirit yelled as Micky was running over to her. Micky got back down on the sand and said, “What does that plane say at the end?” As Spirit squinted to see, she didn’t notice Micky get up again. “It says, ummm. 'Spirit, Will You Marry Me?’” “Davy, look there is some writing there on the sand. It says ’Peace, Will You Marry Me?’” Peace looked at Davy with tears of joy in her eyes, and saw that Davy was there on one knee with a ring in his hand. “Will you?” “Oh! David, of course I will!” Spirit stared at the plane for a second with her head spinning. “Micky! Yes, oh yes I will!” Spirit said turning towards Micky seeing him on his knee and ring in hand.

Chapter 14

In the coming months everyone was busy tying to get things ready for the double wedding date July 29,1967. Not only was everyone busy with that but the Monkees were on tour and they were hardly ever home. The girls love going on tour but decided to stay back this tour and work on the wedding. Lucky for girls they worked well together and was able to have everything set by the beginning of July. They had the beach set, (Yes they were going to have a beach wedding) the preacher, the guests, the outfits for everyone. (Best man, bride’s maid, wedding dress etc.etc.etc.) Finally it was the end of the month and everyone was really excited. Everyone’s families flew in.The day of the wedding everything was hectic. Everyone was running around trying to put the finishing touches on everything. Finally things were ready to start. Peace started down the aisle and everyone stood. Peace wore a long flowing dress that lightly drug the ground, with a veil almost as long. She finally got up to Davy and the wedding was underway. Peace heard nothing and saw nothing but love in the eyes of her now husband Davy. “You may kiss the bride.” Davy took Peace in his arms and placed a kiss on her lips like no other. After Peace’s wedding and a short break it was now time for Spirit to walk down the aisle. Spirit started down the aisle with a long dress and a short train, and a floral wrapped veil. As Spirit reached Micky and saw the love in his eyes she knew it was right and knew she would love him for the rest of her life. It was finalized and now, Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Mr.and Mrs. Dolenz left that beach and headed to Australia for a brief honeymoon before the Monkees had to go back on tour.

Chapter 15

After a nice wedding and a short honeymoon in Australia, the Monkees were back on tour and so were Peace and Spirit. The summer of 1967 was a good one. Not only did they have a number 1 album but they alsohad sold out shows, and their television show wasabout to start its second season. The girls were there every second. Though the fights, the walking offthe sets, the arguments, everything. Sometimes the four of them acted just like brothers. They would fight and fight but always came back and made up. They might not admit they were wrong but they would atleast say they were sorry. Throughout the coming months they stayed in their apartments and decided to move into their own houses next year. The band was really busy and really didn’thave time to do a lot of things. They just finished filming season two and were talking about filming a movie. Besides, they loved being there with each other. They were all real good friends. The end of November was approaching and so was Thanksgiving. Everyone was really excited because the girls were going to cook a huge meal. That is something Davy and Micky hadn’t had since they were home. On Thanksgiving they always went out to eat. But not this year. That lovely Thursday morning the girls got up and put the turkey on and started with the cooking! Finally with a long day of hard work cooking it was all done and they were all ready to eat. “Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. This is great!” Was all the girls heard until they said.“You’re doing the dishes.” The guys didn’t argue but they didn’t want to! The girls sat in the living room drinking some tea and talking. “You know Peace; we just successfully completed a holiday meal with our husbands. I wonder how we are going to handle Christmas?” “I don’t know but I am just glad that these holidays are only once a year!” “Yeah I know what ya mean!”

Chapter 16

“COME ON SPIRIT!” Peace yelled as she was getting into the brand new VW Bug the guys bought both Spirit and Peace.“I’m coming! I’m coming! I couldn’t find my boot! Micky hid it from me! I’m here now let’s go before the guys wake up.”The two girls hopped in the car and sped off to the city to get a few last minute Christmas presents for Davy and Micky. It was already Christmas Eve and they still haven’t got them anything. The girls drove on Highway 169 talking. “I can’t believe that tomorrow is Christmas! I feel like a little kid again!” Spirit gushed. “What do you mean again?” Peace said jokingly. “I wonder what the guys got us? I mean we have everything we could ever want. Am I not right?” Peace said glancing at Spirit and looking in her rearview mirror. “You are absolutely right Peace. I have Micky and he has me what more could I want?” “Yeah I know what you mean!” Peace said smiling knowing what she had. “PEACE WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Chapter 17

<RING RING> “Hel...hello.” A sleeply Micky said into the receiver. “Yes, uh huh.” “Oh My God!” “NO!” Micky flew out of bed and ran into Davy and Peace’s room. “DAVY! Get up hurry get up! We have to get to the hospital!” “Micky, clam down. Why do we have to go to the hospital?” A now half-awake Davy asked. “Spirit and Peace had a car wreck!” Micky said. Davy and Micky ran into the emergency room yelling. “Where are they?! Where are they?!” The nurse finally was able to talk to them in asomewhat normal manner.“Who do you need to see?” The nurse asked. “Peace Jones” “Spirit Dolenz” They told her. “They are pretty beat up, I don’t know if they are going to make it. They were driving along Highway 169 and a drunk driver hit them head on.” As the nurse told them the gruesome story, they both tried to hold back their tears.

“Can we see them?” Davy asked.“Yes.”The nurse escorted them down a long hallway and the nurse stood in the middle of the hallway and pointed to the left. “ Mrs. Jones is in there.” Then pointed to the right. “Mrs. Dolenz is in there.” The nurse left and the guys stood there for a second trying to gather their bravery and courage. Finally with one last look at each other they walked into the rooms. Davy walked in and almost broke down right there. Seeing Peace in all those wires and cuts all over her. There was a constant beep. Davy walked over to her and gently caressed her cheek. The tears he tried to hold back was now streaming down his face. He said nothing for a long time just standing there wishing and hoping this was all a dream. He finally pulled up a chair and held her hand and talked to her softly. There was a small knock on the door then it finally opened slowly revealing a nurse, with a needle. “I will only be a minute.” Davy watched as she pricked his love and then walked out. Meanwhile across the hall, Micky slowly walked over to Spirit he looked at every inch of her body and wondered how could something like this happen? He finally touched her. He softly touched her always-beautiful hair. “Why her? She was such a perfect person. Why does she have to suffer for the ignorance of other people?” Micky thought aloud. “Please lord don’t let her suffer. Please, she doesn’t deserve to suffer.” Micky prayed aloud. Starting to break down. He tried so hard to be strong and brave but seeing the love of his life, the only love he ever had in pain and not knowing if she would ever see tomorrow just about killed him. Just then a nurse walked in and gave Spirit a shot. “Is that beep normal?” Micky asked wiping the tears away. “Yes that beep is a good thing but if it becomes one continuous beep call for help.” “Okay” Micky said.

~~In Peace’s room~~

<Beep...beep...beep...beep...beep...beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep...beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep> “What the hell? NO! OH MY GOD NO!!!!!!! PEACE!!! DON’T LEAVE ME!!! I NEED YOU PLEASE OH GOD NO!” Davy yelled holding the lifeless body that was Peace. With tears flowing down his face Davy kept yelling as if that would bring back the once full of life Peace.

~~In Spirit’s room~~

“It’s okay Spirit; we will make it though this.We can make it through anything. You can’t leave me yet,you just can’t!”<BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP> “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Spirit! NO DON’T LEAVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can’t you just can’t! I won’t let you! NO GOD NO! I need her I can’t live without her!” Micky yelled crying over her dead body tears streamed down his face.Micky sat there holding Spirit, and finally let her go. He slowly walked out of the room, eyes red and puffy from crying, tears still rolling down his face.Davy walked out of Peace’s room looking the same. The two guys looked at each other and just hugged. There was nothing for them to do, nothing they could do but be there for each other. They were one of the few that had experience real true love. Micky & Davy was the only people that understood each other’s feelings. The feeling of loss, loneliness, and pain.

Epilogue

The next few days were the saddest days of Micky and Davy’s lives. It seemed as though it was only yesterday that they were walking down the aisle getting married. The day of the funeral was the worse. As Micky and Davy walked up to Spirit’s and Peace’s caskets and saw their lovely faces for the very last time, they lost it. Just the thought of never being able to see their best friend, their love was heart breaking. But lucky for Davy and Micky they had friends that really cared about them and would help them in anyway possible. After that one fateful day nobody was ever the same again. Peace and Spirit touched so many people in their short lifespan.Unfortunately the girls never lived to see how many people they truly touched.
