Chapter 4 – First Day

On the first day…

The Lord made the Saints go to school…

~ An excerpt from Genesis sung by a VERY drunk Phoenix Ikki

Keitalina smiled as she adjusted her glasses. “Oh! Shun. Hyoga. Seiya. So you’re the new students.” She said sweetly. She looked at the remaining Saints in Kamiya and her smile broadened. “Hm…these two must be Ikki and Shiryu?” Both Ikki and Shiryu stiffened in their seats, tensing up at the mention of their names. Keitalina chuckled at this. My…these boys are really uptight, Keitalina thought as she turned to look at the older Saints. “Hmm…you must be…Gold Saints I believe.” she stated not as a question, remembering the commotion from Anthony and Antoinette about Gold Saints and Bronze Saints in the school. The older Saints looked at each other in surprise, wondering how this girl knew. Keitalina chuckled in her usual musical way. “A little 7th grade Pegasus who can dance told me.” She confessed as she took her seat at the Zodiac Table. On Gemini’s Seat. Now the table was full and all residence of the Zodiac were there. “Now then,” Keitalina began. “I should be assigning you all classes…we’re running a little late now…”

“Alright…that should just about do it for classes and divisions…now lets get to class before Seiyaka-sensei gets on our derrieres shall we? Venus…may you please take Seiya and Shun to your class? Don’t forget to introduce them to our Goddess of residence, huh?” she said with a wink. Venus laughed then nodded. “Come on. You have to come meet Artemis…She’s Antoinette’s younger twin sister…” Venus began explaining as she led the Pegasus and Andromeda Saint out the door. Once again, the Gold Saints wondered. Goddess of residence? There was another Goddess here? Their trains of thoughts were interrupted by Keitalina’s voice. “Mileena, Kaizer, Selena, Salina…please escort Shiryu to the 10th grade will you? And make sure he doesn’t get lost.” The four nodded and grumbled a little as they gestured Shiryu to follow them. Shiryu got up from his seat and looked back at his master. Dohko nodded to him, smiling encouragingly. Shiryu managed a weak smile and followed the 10th grade group. “Myuu-san…may you please take Hyoga and Ikki to our classes for the while?” Myuu looked at the younger Gemini in confusion. “Huh? Why aren’t you coming?” Myuu asked. Keitalina waved her hand dismissively and grinned. “No. I have to brief our dear ‘Guardian Saints’ here about activities and the like. I’ll be here for quite a while. Make sure at least someone here hooks up with one of our resident you know…” Myuu nodded and got up from her seat. She smiled kindly at her charges and gestured them to go out the door. “This way please.” She said politely and walked out the door with a small trail of Saints. “Dismissed.” Keitalina announced and the other people at the table went to their respected classes.

Shaka had been quietly studying each and every one of the people of the Zodiac Table. He used his cosmo to check them all to see if any of them would be considered hostile. Fortunately they weren’t. He was rather surprised to be greeted with warm and friendly cosmos from each of them. Seeing a high concentration of cosmo greeting him back surprised him even more. He thought it impossible for anyone else save for a God or a Gold Saint to have any cosmo this high in anyone else. But they had the cosmo. This question he would have to bring up sooner or later to this girl Keitalina who seemed to be at the head of it all.

Seiya and Shun were surprised to see a bunch of girls occupying most of the class than any boys there. There were very few boys in the class indeed. Venus took them to the front where they spoke with the teacher. The teacher, she had long cascading red hair and gentle brown eyes, but even in those eyes she looked pretty miffed. “Venus where were you? You’re late for class.” She said sternly. The two Saints saw Venus cower a bit as she swallowed. “I had to take new students to the Zodiac Seiyaka-sensei. And then I brought them here…these two are Shun and Seiya Kido.” Shun and Seiya both saw the look from Seiyaka’s face as it changed from angry to friendly. “Oh…new students? And Kidos as well? Welcome. Hold on as I introduce you to the class.” Seiyaka clapped her hands twice, and like one of those clap power on machines, the classroom silenced and everyone went to their seats, including Venus who sat next to a bored Antoinette. “Class…these are your new class mates Shun and Seiya Kido. Please make them feel welcomed and help them out as much as you can...” Murmurs soon drowned out anything else Seiyaka said when she mentioned the Saints’ names. Things went all around when people remembered the Galaxian Wars. Shun and Seiya were a bit embarrassed and wanted to get out of there as fast as they could. “Ne…why don’t you sit in front of Antoinette and Venus?”  Seiyaka said, pointing to the two empty seats in front of the two friendly (or not so friendly) blonds. Shun and Seiya nodded fervently and went straight to their seats.

At the 10th grade classroom, Shiryu had been introduced and had taken a seat next to a younger boy who seemed to look a little like him. The only fact that this boy’s hair was shoulder length and his eyes were just as black as his hair. Shiryu didn’t realize he had stared too long and attracted the boy’s attention. His dark eyes glimmered in the sunlight that shone from outside the window he sat next to. A small smile cracked on his face aimed at Shiryu. Shiryu blinked, he was unsure of what to do. After taking a little bit too long, Shiryu smiled back. “So your name is Shiryu? I’m Kento.” He said, a Chinese accent in his voice. Shiryu smiled and nodded. Thinking he would enjoy the idea of school now. “Yes, I’m Shiryu. It is a pleasure to meet you.” Kento grinned as he took some books out from his bag. “Yeah…I thought so…Dohko-sama is always talking about you when I was in China…” Shiryu was surprised to find that Kento knew about his teacher and continued to persist in his questions.

Hyoga and Ikki were led by Myuu to the 9th grade class. Hyoga’s curiousness soon got the best of him when they just reached the class. “Myuu-san…what’s Keitalina-san like? I mean…outside of her skating classes?” he asked. Myuu stared at him as if a foot had grown from his head. “Since when does she skate?” she questioned him, seeming to be interested about Keitalina and her skating classes. Hyoga explained about Keitalina and her afternoon classes and about how well the younger girl danced across the ice. An amused smile crossed Myuu’s face as Hyoga told her this. “So…she did master it after all…” he said mostly to herself. Hyoga and Ikki blinked in confusion. “Mastered what?” they asked in unison. Myuu stared at them for a little while, surprised that they could hear her so well. “Oh, what? Oh, nothing…just an inside joke that’s all.” She stated simply. She smiled brightly and pushed the door of the 9th grade class open.

Hyoga sat pensively at his seat, looking at nothing in particular. It was getting boring in his class as usual and nothing seemed new at all. Out of boredom and curiosity, he turned to look next to him at Keitalina’s desk. He gasped out loud when he didn’t see her sitting there any longer. Odd. She had been there 10 minutes ago. Where could she have gone? He sighed as he ran a hand through his indigo hair. She had done it again. She had disappeared. Lately, Keitalina had been disappearing a whole lot. Whether it had been during class time, lunchtime or even during training sessions. She just got up and gone without a trace. His mind was put aside when new students entered the vicinity of the classroom. One of them had a scar on his forehead and didn’t look too happy. And the other…

“Well…Shun, Hyoga and Seiya must have told you about me…but I know nothing of you than the fact that you three are Gold Saints.” Keitalina admitted, leaning on the Zodiac table. Camus nodded soberly. “I’m Camus. The guardian of the Aquarius Temple of Sanctuary.” He told her. Keitalina blinked behind her glasses. “Aquarius Camus?” she questioned. Camus nodded. Keitalina’s lips quirked in a grin as she sat fully on the table. “Interesting…” was her reply. Dohko looked at the young girl with interest, wondering what she might be thinking. “Tell me Camus…did you happen to train a young boy named Ryoga before the battle of Sanctuary?” she asked. Camus stared at her in disbelief. He quickly regained his composure, once again adopting his former sternness. “Yes…I had a student named Ryoga. He was a good student…but he had too much of a heart to become an Ice Saint.” He answered. Keitalina chuckled, acting as if what Camus had said was humorous. Camus glared back at the girl, making her stop. “What is so funny?” he asked through clenched teeth. Keitalina waved her hand dismissively as she regained her composure. “Oh, nothing…just the fact that he’s here. In this school. Right now.” Camus looked at her as if she had turned purple and sprouted wings on her back. Keitalina laughed again. “In fact…he’s my classmate. He often talks about you Aquarius Camus. He felt a little heart broken that you had died.” Camus stared at the girl with his mouth wide open. Keitalina smiled and turned to Dohko. “Hmm…and you might be…?” Dohko smiled his sagely smile. A smile too old for his youthful looks. “I am Libra Dohko young lady.” He said. Keitalina’s eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. “What?! You’re Dohko?! But how?! You’re supposed to be over 200 years old!! But then…” Keitalina looked straight into Dohko’s eyes. Her sapphire eyes immediately lit up with glee and she jumped into his arms. “Oh, Dohko! You don’t know how happy I am to see you again!! How are you? How is Hades? What about Shunrei? Did she manage all these years? Do you remember me? It’s me!! Ares Saviour Persea!!! Do you remember me at all? Do you remember? I was the little girl in red armor and silver mask! And have you seen Nicholas lately?”

Dohko laughed heartily at Keitalina’s string of questions and set her back at her seat on the table. “I am very well, Persea. Hades is…a little worse for the wear. Shunrei is fine. She has still been with me all these years. She’s quite happy. And yes, I do remember you. How could I forget you now? After all…we are of the same ranks are we not? And Nicholas…” he trailed off. Keitalina’s blue eyes sparkled at him, waiting for an answer. Dohko looked sadly at her. He’d hate to have to disappoint her. He knew how close those two were. The Poseidon and Ares Saviours were best friends since the first day they had met each other. “I’m sorry, Persea. I haven’t seen him.” The sparkle in her eyes disappeared, replaced by a sorrowful look. He guessed that she had been looking for him. “Oh.” Was her reply. “I see…” she added.

Keitalina immediately masked her sadness with a cheerful smile. He doesn’t need to give me his pity. She thought sadly. “And you-who-keeps-his-eyes-closed…what would your name be?”
