Chapter Eleven | ||||||
Avalon sat in the orchard, under the same trees she'd talked to Sophie about Nickolas. She'd been sitting there, thinking, since she'd talked to Michael. She knew she should thinking about the decision she had to make, but she couldn't. The only thoughts in her mind were of being with Nick again. She knew the ways of grief well enough to be leery of his sudden attraction to her, it could have very well been just a method of coping, but at the same time, there was something so ... real that she felt between them, she couldn't just dismiss it. Eventually her mind did wonder to weighing her options, all the wonders of Heaven against earth- the pain, the feelings, and Nick. She wasn't surprised when she found it didn't really seem like much of a decision to make, she didn't have to think about what she was going to do. ~~~~~ "Hello, Avalon. I've been expecting you." Noelle said, motioning for her to sit down on a dark purple chair. Avalon had a feeling that all the angels had expected this by now. She knew she had been a hot topic of conversation ever since she'd returned from earth, her bizarre behavior had been the cause of much speculation. She eased into the chair Noelle had pointed to, and asked, "What would I have to do?" "Because you want to leave Heaven in order to be with a human, you must take human form again, as you've already done and you have to have that person, the one you're wanting to be with, prove that they care for you enough that you have a valid reason to fall." Noelle explained. "So, this is more about Nick, than it is me? Why is he the one that has to prove I have a reason to be there?" Avalon asked. "Because he's the entire reason you want to leave. From the time you'd arrive back on earth, you'd have 24 hours for him to tell you that he loves you, without your prompting. You can't say it first, or give him any hints. It must be his decision. If it doesn't happen, you're back in Heaven, and will have no contact with him again." As sure Avalon had felt that Nick really did feel something for her, she began to doubt herself, and him. What if he didn't love her... or even care for her? "Why is it like that?" "Like what? Him having to tell you he loves you? It's kind of like, a safety net... we don't want to lose angels without good reason." Noelle said. "Oh." Avalon got up, thanked Noelle, and left, headed back to the orchard to think again. She didn't know whether or not she could really risk everything, only to find out that she'd been wrong about him, and to know that she wasn't wanted. ~~~~~ "I can't not do it, Michael. If he doesn't want me, I have to hear that for myself." "You're sure, Avalon?" "Yes. I have to at least try... I have to know ... I can't stay here and wonder for the rest of eternity." After she'd talked with Noelle, she'd decided she had to trust herself on this, that she had to go, if for no other reason than just to talk to him, see him, and kiss him, just one more time. Michael looked at Avalon with a saddened expression, as much as she frustrated him sometimes, he didn't want to have to let her go, but he knew he had to. "Alright. Your time begins as soon as you get there, and you will be called back in 24 hours, if you haven't heard him say it." Avalon nodded and immediately was gone from Michael's office. |
