The Concert

“Wow, Kevin’s harsh.” I stood up,
“You got that right, you had better get changed.”
“Alright,” I walked into the bathroom and my clothes were dry! Very very wrinkled, but dry all the same. I wondered if I had time to take a shower…the guys said they had to leave by 8:30, it was 7:30 then. “I probably don’t have time,” I said to myself. So I went ahead and just washed my face and hands, brushed my teeth (with the hotel toothbrush), and changed into my clothes from the previous night. As soon as I walked out, Nick rushed in,
“Took you long enough!” he grinned as he rushed in. I heard him turn on the water,
“Uh, he gets to take a shower and I don’t? How rude!” I sat down on the bed and switched on the television. I flipped through a couple stations until I finally settled down on cartoons. Why not? About twenty minutes later, and half way into Scooby Doo he emerged from the bathroom.
“How do I look?” he grinned and turned a circle, I had to admit, he didn’t look sloppy.
“You look better than usual.”
“Thanks… hey!”
“Just kidding!” I laughed, “Seriously, you look good. I’m proud.”
“Thanks, its what I’ve always wanted.”
“I know,” I grinned. Then it hit me that he’d be gone within the next twenty minutes or so. I was about to say something when he spoke,
“I’m so glad we ran into each other again Lil! I can’t believe it happened, I figured I wouldn’t be seeing you for a long time. I wish we had actually talk-talked a lot more though.” “I was just going to say something along those lines!”
“I figured as much, that’s why I said it first,” he giggled, “But I’m serious about what I said.”
“I feel the same way dude, the only way I know what’s been going on with you is by reading articles from magazines.”
“Which aren’t always right.” He grinned,
“True, true… but hey, I think I know more about you then you do.” I laughed, “Having Bree as a friend and plus the website-please don’t comment on that by the way-has given me huge amounts of useless Backstreet Boy and Nick Carter trivia. Come on, ask me anything.”
“Hmm…” he looked at his watch, “It’s 8:15, I have fifteen minutes, lets see what can I ask you… what’s my favorite color?”
“Same as mine, green.”
“Name one of my dogs.”
“Mikey.”
“Who’s my favorite band?”
“Journey.”
“Who was my first kiss?”
“Some chick named Bren.”
“Name one of my nicknames that came around after we left.”
“Messy Marvin… or Mr. Hyperman.”
“What’s my favorite movie?”
“Aliens.”
“Wow… this is actually kinda frightening, considering I’m not sure if I know most of that stuff about you.”
“Try, what’s my dog’s name?”
“Ewok!”
“Good, who’s my favorite band?”
“Uh… Limp Bizkit? KoRn? Silverchair?”
“Those will work, who was my first kiss?”
“Me.”
“Yeah… name one of my nicknames that came around after you left.”
“Lilludi.”
“How did you know that? Never mind that… What’s my favorite movie?”
“Romeo + Juliet”
“You got those right…”
“I was really your first kiss? How cute!” he grinned,
“Shut up blondie, don’t let it go to your head.” I shot back smiling. He looked at his watch again, “8:22, eight more minutes…”
“Dude, this sucks, next time you come down here, we are going to be spending twenty-four hours doing nothing but talking.”
“That’s what I’m sayin!”
“Alright, promise?”
“Promise.” Then he brought his hand up and pulled a ring off his pinky,
“Nick, I didn’t know you had a pimp ring!”
“Shhh, you’ll spoil the moment stupid,” he smiled,
“Okay okay,”
“I’m not taking this back until after we talk for twenty four hours straight, alright?”
“Wow, thanks.”
“That means I’m taking it back eventually, don’t get too attached.” The corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
“I understand,” I laughed, “But seriously, thanks man.”
“Don’t mention it,” I took the ring from him and fit it onto my middle finger,
“Its pretty,” it was just a plain gold ban (if Nick had had a jewel in it, I would’ve had to smack him).
“Five minutes.”
“I wish you were staying longer!”
“Yeah, so do I, but hey, we all know I’ll be back.” He said it like the terminator would. Just then the door opened and AJ and Brian walked in.
”Hey guys, good morning, how long have you been up?” we looked at each other,
“Hey… we’ve been up for a while.” Nick answered easily, “We’re leaving soon right?”
“Yeah, that’s what we were coming to tell you, the bus is ready.”
“Alright, my stuff’s all ready and everything, just tell me when we have to go.”
“The security’ll be here in about two minutes, then we’ll leave.”
“Okay.” Then Kevin walked in,
“Guys, the security has arrived.”
“Alright, I guess that means we have to go…” Brian said. Howie walked in to join us, he was followed by Jana. I guess the rest of the girls had left already.
“When are you guys coming back?” I asked Kevin,
“I don’t know, if our management arranges something then soon, but tomorrow we have the Billboard Awards, so we have to go.”
“And, I’m going home first!” Nick added,
“You better come back soon!” Jana stated while looking at AJ though I could’ve sworn her eyes shifted to Nick for a split second.
“They will,” I said for them “Because if they don’t someone’s getting a beat down!”
“She’s not lying…she’s small, but vicious. “
“That’s right.” I agreed.
“”Guys, we gotta go…” Brian said slowly. All of a sudden AJ yelled out,
“GROUP HUG!” he, of course, ended up in the middle. After that, we all walked to the elevators and went downstairs. The security was waiting for them, we said good bye and so on. Then they got on the bus one by one. AJ took Jana aside and Nick hung back a little.
“I should get on the bus.”
“Yup.”
“I really should.”
“Uh huh,”
“Alright, I’m going. Bye Lil.” He surprised me by pulling me into a bear hug.
“B-bye Nick,” I choked out while returning the hug.
“Remember the promise,” he grinned.
“Of course I will” I paused looking at the ring, “Good luck at the awards… and don’t do anything embarrassing.”
“I won’t.” We said bye one more time before he finally boarded the bus only moments after AJ. I hoped they would be back soon. Me and Jana stood there for a couple minutes after the bus drove away, finally she spoke,
“Do you have a ride home?”
“No,”
“You want one?”
“Sure, thanks.” We walked toward her car and got in. “Where do you live?”
“I live about and hour away,”
“Alright, cool… so…”
“Yeah?”
“You’re a senior?”
“Yup, are you in college?”
“Yeah, a freshman.”
“Cool, so, you and AJ…?”
“Me and AJ…?”
“Are you guys going out… just a fling… what?”
“I think we’re going out,” she smiled, but it faded quickly. “But I don’t even know when they’re coming back.” I noticed she didn’t say ‘he’.
“They’ll be back soon,” I said soothingly, then added to myself, ‘I hope.’
“How do you know?”
“Nothing can keep AJ from his girlfriend for long.” I grinned,
“What do you mean by that?”
“Oh, either he’ll fly in every so often or fly you to be with him.”
“Really?”
“Yup.”
“Wow, that’s impressive. I can’t wait till that happens!” I giggled at her enthusiasm,
“You’re lucky, I never get that sort of treatment.” I kidded.
”I’ll make sure that if he asks me to go, he’ll ask you to go too.” She smiled, “I still can’t believe that I met him!”
“Why’s that?”
“I’ve been a fan forever! I never thought I’d meet him in a club and then to go out with him… wow.”
“Was he your favorite?”
“Actually… no… he wasn’t.”
“Really? Who was? I won’t tell, promise!” I grinned, “Come on, spill it!”
“My favorite was always Brian… and Nick.”
“Oh, smooth, well now you know all of them.”
“Yeah, I do.” She sighed happily.
“Oh, take a right into this development and stop at the little dial thingy.”
“Alright,” she pulled up to the thing that you call to open the gate from and dialed the number, my sister answered and opened the gate for us.
“Now just go straight, don’t turn anywhere.”
“Okay,” two minutes later we were at my house.
“Thanks Jana, you wanna come in?”
“No, its okay, I’d better get home, but what’s your number?” I gave her my number, thanked her again, and ran to my door. As soon as I walked in Kat jumped in front of me,
“When do I get to meet Aaron?” she demanded,
“I don’t know, the guys left this morning.”
“What?! And Nick didn’t say anything about me meeting Aaron?” she asked hopefully,
“No… but it must have slipped his mind or something, I’ll ask him about some time.”
“Alright, they’re gonna be on TV tomorrow night.”
”The Billboard Awards, right?”
“Yeah. You think they’ll win?”
“Probably, ‘Millennium’ is the highest selling album of ’99.”
”I hope they win… now that I know them.” She grinned,
“That’s great… I gotta do my homework, okay? I’ll talk to you later.” I walked upstairs to my room and sat down and started doing my homework which I had been putting off for a while. I finally finished about three hours later.

~*The Boys*~
“Alright, we’re at the airport.” Kevin got up from his seat. “Lets go.”
“Alright, I’m right behind ya, Kev.” AJ jumped up,
“I’m coming, I’m coming.” Nick said grumpily. Brian and Howie silently followed the other three. They walked inside and went to the main terminal. “I guess this is where we split up guys, I’ll see you tomorrow, right?”
“Yup Nick, talk to ya then, don’t be late, alright?” Brian joked,
“You know me…” he said innocently.
“Later Frack,”
“Bye Nicky,”
“See you tomorrow Nick.” Kevin, Brian, AJ, and Howie walked one way. Nick walked the other. Within four short hours he’d be home with his family. He boarded his plane and sat in his first class seat. He waited for the captain to say they were taking off when suddenly a girl ran on the plane and plopped down in the seat next to him breathing heavily.
“Whew didn’t think I was gonna make it,” she smiled at him, “Hi, I’m Sarah.”
“Hey, I’m Nick,” he forced a grin, it was going to be a long ride after all.
“You’re Nick Carter, right?”
“No.”
“Yes you are.”
“Alright, I am,” he grinned,
“Cool, and you’re part of…” she appeared to be thinking, “N*sync?” she asked hopefully,
“No… wrong group.” He said trying to sound indifferent as if he didn’t care.
“I’m just pullin your leg, I know you’re from the Backstreet Boys. I just always wanted to know what would happen if someone said that to you,” she laughed, he laughed along with her,
“That sounds like something I would’ve done to someone in my position.”
“And my mom says I’m the only person on earth who’s this weird!”
“Hey, my mom says that too! No…not really.” He smiled,
“Touché” They talked like that for the rest of the flight. When the captain announced their arrival three and a half hours later Nick was surprised,
“Wow, when you got on the plane I thought it was going to be a long ride. But it flew by… no pun intended.”
“Thank you so much,” she grinned, “No, just kidding, I know what you meant. But hey, we each gained a friend out of it right?”
“Definitely, what’s your number Sarah…?”
“Oh yeah, Sarah Talbert, and my number’s 555-1224.”
“Alright, I got that.” He wrote it down, “Perfect.”
“Well, it was nice meeting you Nick.” She said as they got off the plane,
“Same to you Sarah, I wish we could’ve gotten to know each other better, but hey, I’ll call you, alright?”
“Alright, bye” she smiled at him and walked towards who ever was there to pick her up. Nick looked around and saw his mom,
“MOM!” he ran over to hug her,
“Hey Nick, how are you?” she pushed her oldest son back so she could get a look at him. “You got a tattoo? Nick!”
“You like it mom?” he grinned sheepishly. She just shook her head and smiled, he was growing up. “Come on, lets go, Aaron’s waiting.”
“Aiight, that’s cool, we just have to get my bags, you know what time my flight is tomorrow?”
“Yes, its at 6:00”
“Mom, the Awards are at 7:00… You think I’ll make it?”
“Definitely, now come on, lets go!” she said pulling his arm,
“Okay, okay.” He laughed. They got his bags and went back to the ranch he had bought not long before. He walked into the front door just to have a nearly five-foot tall bundle of energy bound at him,
“Nick!”
“Aaron!” he hugged his little brother tightly, it had been a while since Ontario. “What’s up?”
“Nothing actually, just waiting for you Nick.” He grinned.
“Alright, cool… cool. Oh yeah Mom!” he turned to his mom, “Guess who I ran into down in Ft. Lauderdale!”
”Who?”
“Llynia!”
“Really? How is she? I haven’t heard you talk about her in a long time!”
“She’s great…Yeah, it turns out her friend likes the Backstreet Boys and they both came to the concert.”
“Wow, that’s interesting, did you spend time with her?”
“Of course, we went out to dinner and she spent a couple nights with us.”
“Oh, that’s the girl who picked up when I called!” Aaron added in, “Yeah, she told me you called,” Nick grinned, then he remembered something, “And guess what else I found out Aaron.”
“What?”
“You’ve got a fan…” he teased, “She’s your age, and not too bad lookin.” He pretended that it wasn’t very interesting,
“Llynia’s my age?” Aaron asked surprised,
“No!” Nick laughed, “Her sister,”
“Oh, what’s her name?”
“Um… Katrina… Katherine… something like that.”
“Cool, lets go play some 64, I’ve been practicing, I think I can beat you now Nick.” He giggled and ran to Nick’s room. Nick started up after him,
“I’ll be back down for lunch later mom,”
“Alright Nick,” it was good have him back home, “It should be done in a half hour.”
“Woo hoo,” when he got to his room Aaron had already set everything up and had started the game,
“Yoshi’s mine.”
“Alright, I’ll take… Luigi.” Nick sat down and started beating the crap out of his little brother. By the time they had to go down for lunch, he had beaten Aaron 15 times. Aaron had won once.
“I won once!!!” he leaped up, “That’s the best I’ve done.” He grinned, “But don’t worry bro, I’m working on it.”
“Uh huh, sure, we’ll see about that next time Airboy.” They walked downstairs together,
“Mom, what’s for dinner?” he heard his sister BJ yell from her room,
“BEEJ! GET DOWN HERE, YOU’RE IN TROUBLE,” he screamed, she ran from her room,
“What’d I do??” then she saw Nick, “Where the hell did you come from?”
“Excuse me?”
“Uh… I mean… how are you Nick?” she smiled sweetly,
“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.” He grinned, “I’m great BJ… did you gain weight?”
“What?!” she looked down at her flat mid-section, “Does it really-“ she looked up and saw the mocking grin on his face,
“Nick! You’re always teasing me!” she said pretending to be hurt, he knew the drill,
“I’m sorry Beej, but you make it so easy.”
“Hey!” together they laughed and headed down for lunch,

~*The Rest Of The Boys*~
“Miss her?” AJ asked Brian as they rode to their hotel,
“What?” he looked startled.
“I said, do you miss her?”
“Who?”
“Leighanne! No, I meant a fan we met.”
“Oh, oh, of course I miss her, why wouldn’t I miss her?” he asked quickly,
“I was just wondering… dude, calm down.”
“I’m calm!” he said forcefully,
“Alright… I think I’ll just turn and talk to Howie now…” Nothing more was said to Brian for the rest of the ride. They got to their hotel, Howie and AJ would be bunking and Kevin and Brian would room together. As soon as they got to their room Brian lied down and told Kevin he was tired,
“Alright bro, I’ll talk to you later,” he headed out the door and went straight to his group mates’ room. “Hey guys,”
“Hey Kev, have you seen my mom?” AJ asked,
“No man, sorry, but I gotta talk to you.”
“About…?” Howie prompted,
“I think something’s wrong with Brian”
“About Leighanne I’m guessing.”
“Why would you say that?”
“Because I just mentioned her in the car on the way over and he snapped at me.”
“Well then maybe…”
“MAYBE we should keep our noses out of his business. If he wants to tell us, he will.” Howie jumped in, “Remember what happened last time?” he looked meaningly at AJ,
“What’d I do?!”
“You remember, the whole Mandy Ashford incident with Nick…”
“That was so not my fault!”
“You told her that Nick liked her because of her breasts and the fact that he had heard she was easy!”
“Oh yeah…” he looked sheepishly at the floor.
“Lets let Brian do what he wants,”
“Okay, that’s cool.” Kevin said, “Thanks guys, right now I think I’m going to go talk to our management and see what’s going on.”
“Alright, later Kev.”
“See ya dude.”

~*Back at Home*~
At about 1:00 the phone rang, I answered it. It was my friend Sarah,
“Hey Lilly! You’ll NEVER guess who I was next to on the plane ride over here!”
“Huh? Sarah?”
“Yes!” she said impatiently, “Now guess!”
”Uh…I dunno, Matt Damon?”
“Close! Nick Carter!”
“Awesome!” How the hell?
“He asked for my number!” Alright now I’m going to have to kick his ass,
“Really? That’s great!”
“I know! Hey I gotta go, my uncle’s gonna kill me for making this phone call, but I had to! Later chica!”
“Bye!” she hung up then and I started scrounging around my room looking for Nick’s number, then I remembered that I didn’t have it ‘cause he moved, and his cell was out of range, he was really starting to piss me off! First, he puts on this big show about how much he likes Jana, then he goes and asks Sarah for her number. That’s it, no more girls for Nick. He is no longer allowed to have a love life, its making my life too confusing. I looked at my watch, 1:30, I glanced at the phone, ‘please ring!’ I begged it. I needed someone to talk to! All of a sudden the phone rang and scared the crap out of me,
“Oh MY GOD! Don’t EVER do that again!” I yelled at it before I picked it up, “Hello?”
“Hey, Lilly?”
“Scott?” why me?
”Yeah, what do you think?”
“Look, I don’t know, I mean, we broke up, remember?”
“Yeah, and I know its one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made in my entire life.”
“Aw, Scott, don’t do this…”
“Don’t do what? Its true, I’m really sorry we did it, I know it was mutual, but come on… tell ya what, go on one last date with me, and if you still don’t want to get back together, I’ll never call you back again, deal?” I thought about it for a second, then figured hey, why not… I know I was going to turn him down, but he wouldn’t listen until after this went through,
“Alright, I will.”
“Great, I’ll pick you up tonight?”
“Okay, 7?”
“Cool, dress nicely, okay?”
”Okay Scott.” I sighed and hung up the phone, immediately it rang again, “I TOLD YOU TO QUIT DOING THAT” I yelled again, but snatched it up all the same, “Hello?”
“Hi… is Kat there?” a small voice asked, I guess I must’ve answered the phone sounding meaner than I thought.
“Yeah, hold on a minute.” I said, “KAT!”
“What?!” she screeched back,
“TELEPHONE!”
“GOT IT!” I heard her yell, so I hung up the phone, about two minutes later I hear, “OH MY GOD, OHMYGOD, OHMYGOD, OHMYGOD!”
“What happened?” I ran out of my room, she had dropped the phone, “Kat, are you okay?”
“Oh my-oh my-oh my-“ I picked up the phone,
“Who is this?”
“This is Aaron Carter, who is this? I wanted to talk to Kat…” I started laughing hysterically, Nick had remembered apparently,
“Kat! Take the phone,” I pushed it toward her, she took it,
“Hello?” she said timidly. I figured I’d leave them alone for a while. I came back out twenty minutes later and they were talking up a storm,
“Hey Kat,” I nudged her,
“What?” she hissed,
“I need to talk to his brother”
“Okay, okay,” she sighed, “Hey Aaron? Yeah, Lilly needs to talk to your bro... Yeah nice talking to you too… I can’t wait till we meet either… bye!” he handed to phone to me,
“Hello?”
“Hey, what’s up?” Nick asked,
“I’ve decided you can no longer have any love life whatsoever.”
“Why?!”
“Because its making my life too damn complicated.”
“Huh?”
“Why’d you ask for Sarah’s number, I thought you liked Jana!”
“Sarah? Jana? How did you know…” he asked in disbelief,
“She’s one of my best friends!”
“What?! How… damn! I asked for her number because I thought she was nice and it was just as friends!”
“Okay, okay, I was not happy when I heard,”
“Did you tell her-?”
“No I didn’t tell her that I know you sir.”
“Damn, you’re funny,” he said sarcastically, “When did you find out anyways?”
“Oooh, you know too many people, don’t meet any more please. I don’t want to run into an ex boyfriend or something.”
“I doubt my exes would be traveling first class anyways.” I laughed.
“True, true.”
“It was nice of you to have Aaron call my sister.”
“He wanted to! I just told him and-oh hold on,” he paused for a second, “He says he’s in loooooooove,” Nick was unmerciful. “Ow, hey! Don’t damage the exterior!”
“Nick, shut up,” I grinned, “Oh hey, I gotta go get ready.”
“Oh really, what for? A girls’ night out?”
“No, I’m going to dinner or something with Scott and I need to get ready and take a nap.”
“Same here… Scott?”
“Yes, he called right before Aaron did.”
”Ooh, well then, I’ll leave you to beautifying yourself, Lord knows-” he cut himself off abruptly, “I mean, uh, have a good time.”
“Thank you,” I said dryly,
“You’re welcome, go get ‘em tiger”
“Uh… yeah, okay… Later Nick… oh wait! I need your new number.”
“Oh yeah,” he gave me his new one and then we hung up after he wished me good luck. Like I needed any. After hanging up I went back upstairs and took a shower. After that I came back out and decided to take a little nap, I was getting pretty tired. But I guess staying up all night does that to you. I asked my sister to wake me up in an hour so that I’d have time to get ready for dinner, I mean, I was going to say no, but I may as well do it in style.

~*The Boys*~
AJ searched frantically through his room,
“Dude! I can’t find my suit for tomorrow, where is it?!”
“I don’t know, should I?” Howie answered placidly.
“No… but you could freakin’ help me look for it! I don’t even have time to buy another one!”
“Do you have anything else you could wear?”
“Maybe…” he looked through his suit case again, “Ah… perfect.”
That’s what you’re planning to wear?”
“Why not? Its alright, besides, remember, I’m the freaky one.” He laughed,
“Yeah okay AJ… whatever you say.”

~*Back at home*~
“WAKE THE HECK UP!”
“Huh? Wha-?”
“I said, WAKE UP stupid.”
“I’m not stupid… and go away.”
“No, you have to get ready, remember?”
“Okay okay,” I got up and saw that it was already 6:15. “I told you to wake me up a half an hour ago.”
“Yeah, well… deal with it.” She left then,
“Fine, I will.” I stuck my tongue out at the door and finally started getting ready. At seven Scott was at the door to pick me up. I have to admit, I had a great time. Maybe I should get back together with him… he was really nice… and its not like I’m getting with AJ. That was just to weird to even think about. Besides, if anyone had a problem with it, they could bite me. I needed to ask someone what I should do. I’d talk to Bree or someone about it tomorrow. Right now, I’d better get to sleep ‘cause I knew I’d have to be up tomorrow.

~*Nick*~
“C’mon guys! We’re going boating!” Bob Carter yelled to his kids,
“Coming, coming.” They walked downstairs in a row, youngest to oldest, all of them looking like zombies,
“Dad, can we leave in like two more hours? Please?” Leslie asked, “I’m really really really really really tired.”
“No, we’ve got to go now ‘cause Nick has to leave at five.”
“Dad! Its seven o’clock in the morning! We could easily leave in like two hours.”
“No. We can’t. That’s that.”
“Yes sir…” they all got into the two cars the family owned and went down to the boat dock. They had a full day of boating and just having fun. By the time they got back it was 4:30, Nick had a half hour to pack.
“Two hours later huh?” his dad had a wry grin on his face. Nick decided he would ignore that comment and continue with his packing. He ended up leaving at 5:15 and reaching the airport just in time.
“Bye Mom!” he yelled just before running onto the plane.

~*The Boys*~
“Where’s Nick?” Kevin asked,
“I don’t know, he said he’d meet us at the hotel as soon as he could.”
“Well, we can’t wait for him… AJ, is that what you’re wearing?!”
“Yes! Why does everyone seem to have a problem with it?”
“’Cause you look like a cowboy?” Brian grinned.
“Thank you Brian.” AJ said sarcastically,
“Just trying to be helpful man!” Brian protested jokingly.
“If Nick’s not here within the next half an hour we’re going to have to leave him and go without him.”
“He’ll be there, don’t worry about it.”

~*Nick*~
“I’m going to be late!” he said to himself, “I’m not even ready for this thing!” the plane finally landed Nick got his stuff and went straight to the hotel, the guys weren’t there of course. He dropped his stuff off and went to the Awards Show. “I knew I was gonna be late, I knew it!” he was gonna go looking like a fool. At least he had the right clothes on.

~*Back At Home*~
“Come on Lil! They’re gonna start any minute!”
“I’m coming!” I ran down to join Jana and Bree, I’d invited them over to watch the Awards.
“Look, there they are getting out of there limo!” Bree said excitedly,
“Hey, where’s Nick?”
“He missed his flight! I know he missed his flight!” I said,
“How could he miss it?!”

~*The Awards*~
“He’s not here!” Kevin hissed to Brian trying to disguise it as a smile.
“He’ll be here.”
“If you say so,” they continued to smile and wave at the crowd. Nick pulled up to the awards just as the doors were being closed. He ran in and scanned the room for the rest of the guys. He spotted them a couple rows from the stage and quickly walked over to join them. He sat down in the seat next to Brian,
“Dude, where have you been? Kevin was going insane!” he whispered,
“I’m sure he was-“
“Wait, what’s up with your hair?!” Brian interrupted,
“I didn’t have time to finish getting ready.”
“What’re you going to do?”
“Make ‘em think it was supposed to be like this.”
“How do you plan to do that?”
“You’ll see.”

~*Home*~
“Alright, the first award is about to be presented!”
“Cross your fingers guys.” We all crossed our fingers and waited, finally we heard,
“And the winners are… The Backstreet Boys Millennium!”
“THEY WON! Yes!” Jana and Bree jumped up and down, we watched as the guys walked up to accept the award,
“Oh my God…” I started,
“What the hell did Nick do to his hair?!” Bree exclaimed,
“He looks like a dumb ass, I told him not to do anything embarrassing.” I shook my head,
“What is AJ wearing?”
“He looks like a cow boy!”
“You’re right!” we spent a couple minutes just laughing at the guys, then we heard Nick’s little acceptance speech.
“He thanked N sync? And Britney Spears?”
“I think Nick’s high.”
“I think he’s stoned.”
“I think he needs to think about what he says and does before he says or does it.”
“Yeah!”
“What’s up with Brian’s pants?”
“I have no clue, Bri’s got this thing about wearing weird pants, remember what he wore on the BsB TV?”
“Oh yeah, those flannel things?”
“Yeah.” We continued watching the show waiting for the performances and such.

~*The Boys*~
They went back to their seats during the commercial break,
“We won, woo hoo.” Now Nick was seated in between AJ and Brian,
“Good cover up Nick.”
“I can just see all my friends laughing,” he grimaced.
“Don’t worry, its not…that bad.”
“Nice way of thanking N sync Nick, why?”
“Because I figured I should.”
“Okay… why were you so late anyways?”
“The plane, not my fault at all!”
“If you say so.” Brian grinned,
“Shut up Rok.”
“Okay, I was just kidding.”
“Hey AJ, I gotta talk to you man.”
“Talk away, nothing important’s goin on.”
“You know Lilly?”
“Yeah…”
“Well, she didn’t want me to tell you this, but she’s got a bit of a crush on you.” He grinned putting his plan into action.
“Seriously?”
“Yup, but I didn’t tell you alright?”
“Alright, she has grown into a nice looking girl.”
“True true,” Nick liked the way this was going.
“Are you sure she has a ‘bit of a crush’ on me?”
“Positive.” He was getting closer and closer to Jana.
“Hmmm, maybe I’ll look into it.”
“Cha-ching.” Nick whispered,
“What was that?”
“Nothing.”

~*Home*~
“I wonder what they’re talking about.” They had just shown a close up of the guys talking.
“Who knows? Maybe its us.” Bree sighed. I laughed,
“Yeah right, why would they be talking about us?” then I glanced at Jana, “Well, it was AJ talking…” she blushed,
“Shut up.”
“Just kidding chica.” I laughed. “Oh yeah, Bree, I wanted to tell you something.”
“What?”
“I’m gonna get back together with Scott.”
“WHAT?”
”Yeah, I went to dinner with him yesterday, and well, I really like him.”
“Wow…”
“Who’s Scott?”
“An ex, but we’re getting back together.”
“Are you sure? I was actually kinda hoping you’d get back with… well…”
“Nick?” I grinned,
“Wait, who’re you getting with? Nick or Scott?” Jana asked confused,
“Scott. No offence to Nick, but never again.”
“You guys would be so cute though!”
“Uh… we went over this, he’s like a brother.” Jana smiled, she did like him, I knew it! “He’s really great though.” Nick owed me so bad, “He’s one of my best friends and if I hadn’t moved, we’d probably still be together.”
“Really?”
“Yeah!” I was putting it on thick.
“I wish I was older.” Bree whined, “Its not fair, why couldn’t I have been at least two years older than I am now?”
“Sorry Bree, maybe in a couple years, alright?”
“Okay, now Lilly, now you gotta spill it.”
“What?”
“Who’s a better kisser? Nick or Scott?”
“Well… wouldn’t you like to know?” I grinned,
“Tell!”
“Okay,” I paused looking at both of them, “this does not leave this room.”
“Promise!”
“Okay, I have to say, Nick is.” They both sighed really loud. “Listen to you guys!” I laughed,
“Shh! Its not our fault! I mean, look at him!” Bree pointed at the screen, which they happened to be on him at the moment,
“I am… he’s a tall blond boy with messy hair…” then I started listening to what was going on, Kathy Griffin was sitting on Kevin’s lap, “Oh I’m sure Kristen’s gonna appreciate that!” I laughed,
“She called him Nick!”
“She called Brian Nick too, and told AJ-Nick to stop grabbing her ass!”
“What’s she gonna call Nick then?”
“JJ!” we burst out laughing,
“We gotta start calling him that,” I grinned,
“Alright, deal, next time we see Nicky over there we’ll call him JJ.” We watched the rest of the show and the guys won one more award.
“Alright guys,” Bree got up stretching, “We have school tomorrow, I think its time to go to sleep.”
“Yeah,” I agreed, “I’m tired as heck.
Over the course of the next couple weeks nothing much happened. Me and Scott did end up getting back together and were as close as always. Apparently, no one was really surprised that we did at school. I told Sarah when she was in CA and all she had to say was,
“Finally! I was wondering whether you were insane or if you were just waiting for someone cuter.” Which would probably be a long wait ‘cause Scott was pretty cute. I hadn’t heard from Nick since the day before the Billboard Awards, so he was one person who didn’t know. Jana and I had become fast friends, I talked to her a lot. And she came over often. Thanks to me, she was beginning to like Nick better and better. I didn’t know what was up with Nick and AJ, I needed to tell Nick that he shouldn’t tell AJ that I had a crush on him because I was with Scott, but I knew he wasn’t at home and I wasn’t really sure how I was supposed to reach him. So, I’d have to wait until he called me. I got home from school on our first exam day to the sound of a phone ringing,
“Hello?”
“Hey Lil one!”
“Nick! Hey! What’s up?” it’d been about two weeks,
“Not much, just figured I’d call ya and say hi.”
“Alright, cool, I’m just busy studying for exams and crap.”
“Ahh, exams. Going well?”
“No,” I said truthfully, “Not really.”
“That’s not good, you gotta do well!”
“I know, right now, I don’t wanna talk about it ‘cause you sound like my mother.”
“Be quiet.” He laughed,
“Oh yeah, I had something I had to tell you…”
“What?”
”You shouldn’t tell AJ I like him.”
“What? Why?”
“Because…”
“Because what? I already did,”
“Uh oh,”
“Uh oh what?”
“I’m going out with Scott.”
“Why?” he groaned,
“Because I love him,”
“LOVE? You’re talking about LOVE and you’re 17? You’re too young to say the ‘L’ word.”
“Shut up Nick.”
“What am I gonna do now? Your love life is great, but what about mine?”
“Well, I have been talking to Jana dumbass, she likes you a lot.”
“And what about AJ?”
“I don’t know.”
“But you have to.” He whined,
“Nick, you’re whining.”
“I do not-I DO NOT WHINE!”
“Nick, shut the hell up already. You’re giving me a head ache.”
“Grrr,”
“Did you just growl at me?”
“Yes.”
“Fine, what do we do?”
“I don’t know!”
“Tell him the truth?”
“No! We can’t do that, he’ll kill me!”
“Then what?”
“Well… I’m coming up there-“
“You are?”
“Yes, I’m coming up there soon, we have break starting Friday and I’m not doing anything until after new years.”
“Where are you staying?”
“Well, I was planning on staying at a hotel.”
“You will not.”
“What?”
“You’ll stay here!” I grinned, “I’ll tell my mom about it.”
“Huh?” he was lost, but I was on a roll,
“Oh sweet, you’ll stay here, my mom will finally know, and you can meet my bro.”
“Okay… thank you for telling me what I’m going to be doing. You made me lose my train of thought!”
“You’ll do it though, right?”
“Okay, now listen. I’m coming up there, I think AJ will be here for a day or two also, just pretend that you like him while he’s here and when he tries to hook up with you he’ll break up with Jana leaving her open. And you just say that you met someone else!”
“Nick…”
“Its perfect!”
“No, its wrong. I feel really bad doing this to AJ. You should too.”
“I really really like Jana! Look, I gotta go. I’ll talk to you later about itinerary and stuff like that.”
“Okay…” I sighed, “Later Nick.”
“Bye Lilly.” He hung up and I got to work studying for exams. Two days later, we were all free and Sarah had come back from CA finally.
“How was the wedding?” I asked her on the way to my house.
“It was great! Everything was so beautiful! I’m gonna get married just like that,” she said with a far away look in her eyes.
“Okay Sarah… come on, we’re here.”
“Oh, alright.” We got out of the car and went straight to my room. We just talked for a while before my mom called me down,
“LILLY!” I ran out,
“Yeah mom?”
“Didn’t you hear the phone ring? Its for you.”
“Okay Mom,” I got the phone, “Hello?”
“Hey chica!”
“Hey Bree! You coming on Sunday night? I’m having an end of school get together thing. Only you, me, Jana, and Sarah.”
“Of course I’m coming! That’s what I was calling you about. What should I bring?”
“What you usually bring. Duh.”
“Oh yeah, oh crap, my mom’s home, gotta run! Bye”
“Bye.” I laughed.
“She’s coming?” Sarah asked,
“Yup, and you’ll get to meet my friend Jana.”
“Awesome.” She spent the night and left the next morning ‘cause Christmas was two days away. Well, Christmas came and went nothing too exciting happening. I got clothes and stuff. Nothing unusual. The day after Christmas was Sunday. I woke up around 11, I could get used to this, had my breakfast and sat down to read this book I had been waiting to read forever. Half way through the second chapter a ding dong interrupted my thoughts. I ran to the door to open it, there standing on the door step was Nick.
“Nick?!”
“Hey, I figured I’d surprise ya.” He grinned,
“Hey!” I rushed forth to hug him.
“I missed you too,” he grinned. “Now, where am I sleeping?”
“I suppose you’ll sleep in the guest house.”
“What?”
“Follow me, and bring your stuff.” He threw his duffel bag over his shoulder and carried a little suitcase in one hand. I lead him out to where he’d be sleeping,
“You mean we’re not in the same house?”
“Well, yeah, basically. But don’t worry about it. We’ve got a slight problem for tonight though.” “What is it?”
“I’ve got a couple friends coming over for this little thing I put together, you know them all. Jana, Bree, and Sarah.” He raised an eyebrow, “Sarah will be in for the surprise of her life.” I said gleefully.
“When do I meet your parents?” he asked,
“Now I guess.” We went back into the main part of the house, my mom was in the kitchen, “Hey, mom, my friend Nicky’s going to be staying here for a couple days.”
“Oh that’s great dear, where is she?”
“Uh mom, its he.” She glanced up and saw Nick,
“Oh… Hi Nick. I’m Lilly’s mom, you look unbelievably familiar…” I shook my head,
“Mom, he’s in the Backstreet Boys. You remember, that concert I went to.”
“You’re in the Backstreet Boys?”
”Yes ma’am.”
“How did you get to meet my daughter?”
“I’ve known her for years.”
“Really Lilly?”
”Yeah mom.” I replied sheepishly.
“Wait, you mean this was the ‘Nicky’ you spent the night with?” she asked disapprovingly.
“Yeah, but mom, he’s like my brother.”
“I’m sure… but anyways, how long are you going to be staying here Nick?”
“Um, I guess for about three days.”
“That’s it?” I asked.
“Well, yeah.” He grinned, “I’m not exactly free all the time.”
“Yeah yeah,”
“Well Nick, I hope you have a good time here, I’m not sure how she could’ve known you for that long with out me knowing, it makes me wonder what other friends she has…”
“Mom!”
“Just kidding!” she walked away chuckling to herself about me.
“That went well…”
“You haven’t met my step dad or my brother yet, don’t forget.”
“Where are they?”
“They went out or something.”
“Oooh, so…”
“What do you wanna do until tonight? Oh yeah! I forgot,” I punched him in the arm,
“Ow! What the heck was that for?”
“I told you not to do anything embarrassing on tv. What was up with the hair?”
“I really didn’t have time to fix it!”
”Couldn’t you have gotten a brush or a comb from someone?”
“No! You just don’t ask like that.”
“You should’ve.” I mumbled.
“What are we gonna do? Well, first you’re obviously going to get ready.” I glanced down at what I was wearing,
“Hey, what’s wrong with this?” I asked pretending to be hurt,
“They’re your pajamas.”
“So? I go out in my comfy pajamas all the time.”
“They have cows all over them, cows in fruity sunglasses.”
“Hey, I like ‘em.”
”I didn’t say they were ugly, just a little weird.”
“And I guess horsey boxers aren’t?”
“No.” I rolled my eyes at him.
“Well, fine I’ll go get ready and then we can go to lunch or something, maybe even stop by and pick up Jaaaaaana.” I said in a sing-song voice.
“Shut up.” He said uncomfortably.
“Well, make yourself at home, I’m off to take a shower.” I bounded up the steps. Nick went to the guest house place.
“This is comfy,” he said to himself, “Well, I guess I could write for a little while.” He sat down and wrote the beginnings of a song. After about five minutes, he put the pen down, “Okay, I’m bored now, maybe I’ll go wait for Lilly in her room.” He went inside, upstairs, and sat in my room reading the book I had just started. Twenty minutes later I came out of the shower in my towel,
“That was nice,” I sighed and walked in my room to change, I didn’t see him at first and he was so engrossed in the book, he didn’t notice me. After I shut the door I turned around “Holy crap!”
“LILLY?” he jumped, then he regained composure, “Oops, sorry.” He wasn’t acting nervous, but he was blushing,
“Nick… could you leave for about five minutes?”
“Of course.” He said quickly and exited the room. I changed into jeans and a top and opened the door again.
“Okay you can come back in now.” He walked back in,
“I don’t know, I liked you better in the towel.”
“Sh.” I began putting on my make up while he kept on with the book, “Good?” I asked,
“Very.” I guess it was good if he wasn’t going to give me more than a one word answer. Finally I finished,
“Okay, all done now.”
“Okey-dokey.” He jumped up off the bed, “What are we going to do today?”
“Well, I do need to pick up a few things from the mall…”
“Oooh,” he groaned, “The mall?”
“Yeah, not clothes or girl stuff. Just like some books and a cd or two.”
“Okay, I’m all ready, shall we?”
“Lets go.” I grinned, “Hey mom!” I yelled on my way out,
“What is it?”
“We’re going to the mall, we’ll be back by five.”
“Okay.” We hopped in my car and drove to the mall, the trip took about 30-45 minutes. We reached there at about 1:10.
“Alright, we have about three hours to finish.”
“Got it.”
“Where to first?”
”The CD store?” he asked,
”K,” we walked to Sam Goody. “Here we are.” When we walked in we got a few curious stares but nothing more.
“Damn, they have more useless Backstreet stuff in here than I’ve ever seen.”
“You’ve never been to Claire’s, have you?”
“No…” all of a sudden a girl screeched,
“OH MY GOD, ITS NICK CARTER!” and she ran toward us,
“Uh oh…”
“What’s wrong Nick? One fan can’t hurt us.”
“One fan quickly turns into many fans mobbing one unbody-guarded person.”
“Got your point,” I said looking up and finding at least seven girls. “Lets go.” We rushed out of the store and hopped behind a fake tree,
“Whew, saved by the branch.”
“Alright, lets try Camelot Music. I’ll go in and get out as fast as I can.” Luckily in Camelot only one or two people approached us. Nick went to go look at whatever cds he wanted while I stayed in the aisle where I was. A girl came up to me,
“Bitch.” She said,
“Excuse me?”
“I said bitch.”
“Do I know you?”
”No, but you’re a bitch.”
“Thank you for classifying me, now could you please tell me the basis for your hypothesis?”
“You’re dating Nick Carter. He could do better than a flee-ridden bitchy old hag like you.”
“Oh, I suppose you mean you. Instead of having a flee-ridden bitchy old hag like me, he could have a slutty walking STD like you.” I said sweetly, no need to tell her we’re not dating I grinned. The girl raised her hand as if to hit me, what had I gotten myself into. “Stupid Nick.” I muttered, but luckily an employee glanced at her just in time. She still glared at me though,
“Watch out bitch.” Nick walked back over to me right then,
“Hi Nick,” I grinned sweetly and took his hand, he looked at me like I was insane. I just batted my eyes, “I’m so glad that you’re back,” I gave him a small kiss on the cheek, the girl gasped. I walked back to the check out counter holding Nick’s hand all the while. When we got in line I turned around and waved at the girl.
“What the hell was that?!” he said.
“Long story, I’ll tell you in the car.”
“Okay… it was… it brought… never mind.”
“Yeah Nick…” I paid for my cds then we went to Waldon’s.
“What’re we doin here?”
“Getting the book I wanted.” I walked straight to the fiction row, picked out the book, paid for it and was done in a matter of minutes.
“Hey, its only 2:15,”
“We can go to lunch.”
“Where?”
“TACO BELL!” I yelped,
“What???”
“Taco Bell! I haven’t been there in sooooo long!” We almost ran to the car, “C’mon Nick, walk faster!”
“I am!” he shook his head, “There’s got to be something wrong with someone who gets that happy over Taco Bell.”
“Shut up and lets go!” I already had the car started and as soon as he got in I sped off in the direction of my favorite restaurant.
“Okay,” he started after five minutes of being in the car, “Could you please tell me what was up in the music store place?”
“What?” I asked,
“Um, the kiss, the hand holding, the contemptuous smile you gave that girl.”
“Okay, that slut-“ I paused because Nick snickered, “that slut,” I started again, “walked up to me and called me a bitch for no reason what-so-ever. So I figured I’d pretend to be what she thought I was.”
“What’d you say to her before I came?”
“I said that instead of wanting a flee ridden something or the other like me, you’d rather have a slutty walking STD like her.”
“Where did you learn such foul language?” Nick asked surprised, but he was laughing.
“Just from some people I know.” I grinned, then I looked over at the boy, he was looking at me weird, “What’re you looking at?” I asked. He was making me uncomfortable,
“Oh nothing,” he said quietly, “Are we almost there?” There was the old Nick again.
“Are we there yet? Are we there yet? No we’re not. No we’re not.”
“How long till we get there? How long till we get there?”
“I don’t know, I don’t know.” I ended giggling.
“There it is!” Nick pointed excitedly out the window,
“And you said I was weird for getting excited about Taco Bell?”
“Shut up.”
“I will do no such thing thank you.” I went to the drive thru, we ordered our food, got it, and ate in the car on the way home. “Hey, you wanna rent a movie?”
“Sure” we stopped at Blockbuster and got out.
“What movie you wanna see?”
“I don’t care,”
”Lets just walk around and see if we find anything interesting.” About ten minutes later I found it, “We can get this one!”
“And this one,” Nick held up his choice. v “’Trojan War’? Isn’t that a chick flick?”
“Shut up, what’d you choose? ‘Ten Things I Hate About You?’”
“No, I chose ‘Idle Hands’.”
“Oh, aiight.” I paid for the movies and we left. By the time we got home it was 4:55.
“Just in time.” I grinned, “Mom, we’re home!”
“She’s not here!” my sister yelled, “And who’s ‘we’?”
“We as in me and Nick.” I yelled back,
“Nick?”
“Yes,” he grinned, she ran downstairs.
“Hi! Do you have a message from Aaron?” she asked hopefully.
“As a matter of fact, I do.” I looked at him,
“You do?”
“Yes, I do.” he pulled out his wallet and looked through it, finally he found what he was looking for, a folded up piece of notebook paper, “Here ya go,” she took it,
“Thank you,” she said calmly and then quickly opened it. She jumped for joy, literally, and ran all the way back to her room.
“What was in there?”
“I don’t know, I didn’t read it.” He smirked,
“Yes you did!”
“Okay… he just wants to know if she’d like to visit him one day over break, she’d fly out in the morning, and come back at night or the next day or something.”
“She can’t do that alone Nick…”
“I know, it’ll be the day I leave, you and her will both come with me and leave in the night together.”
“Oh, that sounds like fun!”
“Okay then,” he grinned, “Lets go watch the movie,” since it was December it got dark earlier than usual, so the sun was already setting. We ran up to my room and I stuck the video in the VCR.
“Don’t get scared Nick.” I whispered,
”Quiet,”
“Remember ‘Sleepy Hollow’” I grinned unmercifully,
“Shhh.” We settled back on the bed and began watching the movie. As soon as Devon Sawa entered the screen I sighed,
“He is so hot.”
“That’s great…”
“Are you feeling threatened Nick?”
“I’m trying to watch the movie.”
“Okay, okay, hint taken.” Half way through the movie I remarked to Nick, “Kinda reminds you of the Shaving Incident, huh?”
“Shhh!” Later on an extremely gruesome part in the movie came and I huddled against Nick shielding my eyes. He put his arm around me,
“Don’t worry, its almost over.” Then I don’t know what happened. I looked up, and it was as if we had never broken up. Our faces leaned toward one another, and we were on the brink of touching, but,
“Hey Lilly! I’ve got a-” Sarah bounded into the room, she stopped short and we jumped back from each other, “Oh wow…”
“Hey Sarah,” I got up with as much dignity I could muster. “I believe you’ve already met my friend Nick.” She took a better glance at who was on the bed,
“Holy shit! Are you guys… why didn’t you… I think I need to sit down.”
“Hey Sarah.” Nick grinned. I glanced at Nick who was acting completely unfazed by what just happened. How could he act like that knowing what would’ve happened had Sarah not walked in. All of a sudden, Scott walked in right after Sarah.
“Hey Lil One!” Scott said and came over and gave me a kiss. Nick glared at me, I didn’t know what to do. Then Scott noticed Nick and jumped in spite of himself, but he recovered, “Hey, I’m Lilly’s boyfriend, Scott.”
“Hi Scott. I’m Nick.” He said icily. This was not exactly the ideal situation.
“You’re the guy from the Backstreet Boys!” Scott exclaimed, “Lilly, I never even knew you knew them!”
“I know-“
“We’ve known each other for years.” Nick said emphasizing the ‘years’. “Yup, we’ve always been close,”
“Close is right.” Sarah muttered, Scott didn’t hear her luckily.
“Scott, what’re you doing here?” I asked,
“That’s what I was going to tell you, I decided I’d bring Scott by as a surprise.” Sarah said sheepishly. Thank you Sarah, I thought.
“Yup, so, how long have you known Nick?” Scott asked me,
“Almost seven years now, right Lil? Yeah, I was just 13 when I met you.” He said. I could kill him. If he told Scott that we had gone out I’d shoot him. “I swear, I think the only person I know better than Lilly is me… and the guys of course, but that goes unspoken.” He babbled on. “Well Lilly, since you have company, I guess I’ll let you go. It was nice meeting you Nick.” Scott said,
“Sorry Scott, I’ll walk you to the door though.” I got up and we left the room. Nick got up a minute later and told Sarah he was thirsty and he’d be back. I walked Scott outside to his car, we said goodbye and he left after promising to call me. I turned back knowing that me and Nick had some issues we needed to resolve. Tonight. When I walked back in Nick and Sarah were talking, they made no effort to stop when I returned. But as soon as Sarah noticed me she quit in the middle of her sentence and exclaimed,
”Why the hell didn’t you tell me you knew him when I told you what I told you?!”
“He wouldn’t let me!”
“Why?”
“Because he’s stupid.”
“I am not!” Nick protested, we both ignored him. Then the doorbell rang,
“Hey Lilly! Bree and Jana are here!” my sister yelled,
”Tell them to come up!” I yelled back. They came up, Jana made a kind of strangled noise when she walked in.
“Nick, hey.”
“Hey Jana, what up?”
“Not much,”
“Hey Bree,” Nick turned his attention to her,
“How’s it goin?”
“Its goin’ well.” She had finally eased up around him.
“Glad to hear it.”
“Why do you all look so…well… tense?” Jana finally asked after about two minutes of silence.
“It’s a long story.” I told her, “I’ll tell you all about later, and I’m really sorry to have to say this, but can we take a rain check on this thing? Something came up.”
“Yeah,” Bree said sensing that something was wrong, “Sure, right Jana?”
“Of course,”
“Thanks guys, I’ll call you okay?” we hugged and then they left. Sarah followed them out the door. When we were finally alone we didn’t even say anything to each other. Nick broke the silence,
“Why did he call you ‘Lil one’? I thought I held the patent to that name.”
“Look, we were talking one night about exes and I told him that an old exe of mine called me that, and he liked it.”
“Still, that doesn’t give him a right to take it.”
“Nick! Stop being such a baby!”
“Gee, you didn’t think I was a baby before Sarah came in.” he said spitefully.
“What was going on? We’re lucky she stopped it. Was anything going to happen? Did you feel anything? Why did we do that? We agreed last time you were here that we’d stay friends because neither one of us felt anything anymore.”
“Is that true?” he asked me, “Can you honestly say that you don’t have any of those feelings for me left what-so-ever?”
“I don’t know, but I know that I do have a boy friend and his name is not Nick. I also know that you like Jana and she’s beginning to like you too.”
“I thought I liked Jana.” He mumbled to himself.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Look, we have to talk about this.”
“Why?”
“Because, we do. We can’t just pretend it never happened.”
“But why?”
“It would be too weird. How about you answer your own question? Can you honestly say that you don’t have any feelings left for me?”
“I never said I didn’t.”
“Yes you did. Remember, when we were in the car we were listening to that one song ‘We can’t be friends’-“
“How ironic.” He interrupted,
“Anyways, you asked me if what I said was true and then I said I thought of you as a brother.” “Yeah, and I never said I thought of you as a sister. Did I?” I thought about it for a second and I had to admit he was right.
“Since when did you get smart?” I asked,
“Since the Shaving Incident.” I smiled and then shook my head.
“We’re going off subject. What is up with us? This is like a Dawson-Joey complex.”
“What?” he asked,
“Never mind, you wouldn’t understand. Look, I don’t know what we should do.”
“I do,” he said softly then he got up.
“What do you propose we do?”
“I say we eat dinner”
“Excuse me?”
“We can’t think on empty stomachs and we can’t deny our hunger.”
“Nick… you’re changing the subject.”
“No, I’m not. We have all night to talk about it, but right now I’m hungry.”
“Fine.” I got up and we walked slowly downstairs. We ate dinner and then Nick said he was tired even though it was only 9:20.
“’Night Lil.”
“Good night Nick.” I went up to my room while he walked out to where he was sleeping. He went inside and immediately picked up his cell phone,
“Well,” he muttered, “Brian said he wanted to be told next time something big happened.” He dialed his best friend’s number and waited for him to pick up,
“Hello?” he asked,
“Hey Brian.”
“Nick, hey man, what’s up?”
“Something big.” That got his attention,
“What? Is something wrong?”
“You could say that…” following that Nick told Brian the entire evening’s events.
“Wow…” Brian said when he was finished,
“Yeah, I don’t know what to do.”
“Do you like her?”
“Well, I-“ He was cut off abruptly by a knock on the door,
“Nick?” I called, “Can I come in?”
“Sure Lilly, come on in.” he said, “Hey Brian, I gotta go alright?”
“Call me back.”
“Aiight, later.”
“Later Nick.” He hung up right when I came in. I sat down on the edge of his bed,
“We have to talk about this now, don’t we?” he said,
“Yup.”
“Well?”
“Well what?”
“Are you going to start?”
“You don’t want to?” I asked hopefully,
“Not really Lilly.”
“Okay, okay… I don’t know how to put this.”
“How to put what?”
“This is so weird.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know!” I exclaimed, “I haven’t seen you in almost three years, like sure, I’ve talked to you on the phone and we’ve exchanged letters and stuff, but that’s not the same as being in the same room with you. Now you’re staying at my house and its like, almost, I don’t know.”
“Try to figure it out Lilly, I need to know.”
“I’m trying Nick, its not exactly the easiest thing in the world. But I’m not the only one who should be talking right now.”
“I know,”
“Well, what about you?”
“I think… I like Jana… but, at the same time, my feelings for you haven’t changed since you moved.”
“At all?”
“Well, at a point I felt like I was your older brother, but I never really did. I thought I did, but then when you told me about Scott and I made fun of the relationship I realized that I still…”
“You still what?”
“Wanted you to stay with me I guess.”
”Nick I think I’d better go back to my room now…”
“No you’re not.”
“What?”
“No, I want my ring back, we are going to stay and talk for twenty-four hours straight, I like that ring.”
“Okay…”
“Now I’ve told you the complete truth, I didn’t hide anything. Its your turn.”
“Um, I really have no clue. I thought you were more like a brother to me than anything else… but now I’m not so sure. What do you want me to say?”
“I want you to say whatever it is you’re thinking right now.”
“There are some things that you’re not ready for Nick.” I laughed,
“I’m ready for whatever you wanna say.”
”Alright, here goes… you know what, how about we just see what’s gone on with each other the past two years first? We’ll talk about this last.”
“You promise?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, we’ll each ask a question and the other has to answer it. Kind of like truth and dare, but just truth.”
“Okay…” I said wearily.
“I’ll start… um… what’s the most amazing thing that’s happened since Tampa?” he asked,
“Well, can I start?”
“Nope, you gotta answer the question… truthfully.”
“Oh. Well,” I knew what the answer was. I just didn’t want to say it. “Lets see, woo, uh… I don’t know how to tell you this…well, okay… I’m not… well…” I mumbled the end of my sentence, “What did you say?”
“I said I’m not as innocent as you think I am.”
“What are you talking about?” he asked confused,
“Do I have to spell it out for you? I’m not a virgin. Happy?”
“EXCUSE ME?!” he exclaimed. “What do you mean you’re not a virgin?! You lost the most precious thing ever?! And you’re not even 18?!”
“Dude, calm down. You asked and I told. It was the most amazing thing that happened.”
”Who was it- Scott?” I only nodded. “Woh… I’m thinking that I would’ve rather not known that.”
“Okay, enough dwelling on me, now its my turn to ask a question. What was your most amazing experience since Tampa?”
“Getting famous, duh.”
“That doesn’t count!”
“Okay, okay… um, I guess the same as your’s.”
“Hold up… since when?”
“Since a while ago,” he grinned proudly, “Yup,”
“Was it Mandy?”
“No way!”
“Who was it?”
“Only one question per turn.”
“Fine, fine.”
”My turn, were you ever jealous of Mandy?”
“No! Remember, I had my own boyfriend. Why should I have been jealous of her?”
“Remember, you’re supposed to tell the truth.”
“I know, I wasn’t jealous!”
“Funny… that’s not what Bree told me.” He smirked,
“What did she say?!”
“She said that you called Mandy a ‘dirty filthy whore’ and that I could and probably had done much better than her.” He chortled.
“She told you that? Ooh, I’m gonna get her…” I trailed off,
“So you were jealous?”
“Just a little bit! What kind of former girlfriend would I be if I wasn’t?” I smiled innocently.
“I guess you have a point there.”
“Okay, my turn!” I switched my grin from innocent looking, to evil and dark, “Who was it?”
“I choose to skip this question.”
“You can’t!”
“Can to.”
“Can not!!” I said, “You better answer!”
“Fine fine, it was this girl I hooked up with in Italy. She was really cute… it was I guess-“
“Your basic one night stand??!”
“Yeah.” He replied shamefacedly.
“Does anyone know about this?”
“Well, Brian of course.”
”God, I can’t believe this… this is so… so un-nick.” I shivered, “I think I would’ve rather not known that either.”

~*Brian*~
“What is up with those two…” he said to himself. “I wish they would tell me.” Immediately the phone rang, “Hello?”
“Hey Bri!”
“Leighanne! Hey sweetie, how are you?”
“I’m great, the movie is going extremely well, what’s up with you?”
“Not much, just resting up.”
”Are you alright?”
“Yeah,” he lied,
“Positive?”
“Yes.” He said a little irritably.
“Okay… I was just calling because I have some bad news.”
“You can’t come, can you?” he guessed in a flat voice.
“I’m so sorry Brian. The shooting was extended we didn’t get some scenes done.”
“Its okay hon, just try and make it next time, alright?”
“I promise! And we will spend it alone, just you and me.”
“Alright, well, I have to go, I’ll talk to you later.”
“Love you.”
“You too, and miss you.”
“Bye Brian.” She hung up. He knew she loved him and that he loved her, but then why did he feel so empty?

~*Lilly and Nick*~
“Nick! I can’t believe you did that? Are you serious? Damn.”
“Hey, its not as bad as what you did!”
“And I thought the Shaving Incident was bad…”
“Shut up! Okay, its my turn to ask.”
“Nick,”
“What?”
“Its 7:00 in the morning.”
“Well then, only fourteen and a half hours to go.” He smirked.
“Ha ha ha, yeah right.”
“Like I said, I like that ring… and I want it back.”
“Well, I have to get ready.”
“Sucks for you, we gotta keep talking.”
“My throat hurts.”
“Whatever, its my turn.”
“What if I don’t want to answer.”
“You have to.”
“Not really…”
“Yes you do! Or I’ll call Brian right now and tell him-“
“NO! Okay okay, I’ll answer.”
“That’s what I thought…alright, now lets see, what do I want to ask you?”
“I don’t know.”
“Umm… what don’t I know?”
“You don’t know how it was after I moved.”
“That’s right.”
“But you have to ask next time because I already answered a question.” I grinned,
“That’s not fair!”
“Yes it is, my turn! I want to know what the most secretive thing you ever told Brian was.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“You don’t want to know.”
“Yes I do, I asked didn’t I?”
“Fine… I asked Brian how you’re supposed to…” he leaned over and whispered the rest to me,
“Dude! That’s nasty! Ew!”
“I told you that you wouldn’t want to know.”
“Still… ew.”
