Chapter 14 – Flower “Oh, please stop yelling, Inu Yasha”, Kagome cried out. “I have a splitting headache!” Everyone’s eyes went from Inu Yasha to the newly awakened girl. Kagome didn’t have a chance to try to get up before everyone rushed around her. Everyone besides Inu Yasha, that is. Kagome watched him back away and leave the hut. She just sighed longingly and stayed still for a brief moment before turning her head towards her friends and accepted their help. Inu Yasha had left the hut, thinking that she didn’t need him anymore. He wanted to stay in there with her, but he didn’t want to be a nuisance. Besides, she would be coming into heat soon and then shortly after would be the new moon and his change. He needed to prepare himself for what he was going to have to do and that meant time to himself to make sure his plan would work. He was relying on this. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * By day she wandered the fields right outside the village and by night she simply sat with her back against the wall of Kaede’s hut, stroking Shippo’s fur as he curled up in her lap. This had been going on for 5 days, and with no end in sight. Something had to be done to snap Kagome out of whatever had her in this mood. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo had all agreed on this, but none of them wanted to be the one to approach the girl since she seemed to have new and powerful skills. Shippo and Miroku agreed that Sango should be the one to go. Sango thought that they were cowards. Standing to leave the hut in search of her friend, Sango turned to her lover. “You realize”, she said to him, “this means you no longer are the dominate one. Expect to be on bottom from now on.” She walked out before Miroku, who had turned beet red, could say anything. Shippo could only laugh at the disgruntled monk and before he knew what was happening, Miroku had grabbed the kitsune and launched him out the window. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Sango found Kagome lying in a field of flowers. She stood above her friend, thinking that she was asleep. Sango looked up at the sky. There wasn’t a cloud in sight and it was a truly beautiful day. It was almost the end of summerand they wouldn’t get many more days like this. She knew her friend was still a bit exhausted from all that she had been put thru and was about to sit next to her and wait for Kagome to awaken when she heard a familiar sigh and looked back down at the now squinting Kagome. “You’re blocking my rays, Sango. Why don’t you join me?” Unaccustomed to purposefully lying in the hot sun, Sango stood there for a few moments before dropping down beside her friend. It took Sango even longer to finally make the final transition to actually laying down. Once she had, she realized why Kagome was doing this. It was a perfect meld of sights and sounds, hot and cold, and she was lulled almost instantly into a state somewhere between being awake and being sound asleep. The sun shone down on them, kissing the friends with its warmth while the ground was slightly cool from the layers of grass and flowers that shielded it from the sun. The wind gently swept across the field, rustling the grass ever so slightly. The flowers of the field were a mish mash of various colors and scents that surprisingly blended into the perfect scene. She thought she could stay like this forever. Well, maybe if Miroku was the one lying next to her. “This would be the perfect place to loose one’s virginity in”, Sango said, almost as if she didn’t mean to speak aloud. “I didn’t see you at first because of the tall grass. You could stay here all day without being noticed, if no one was looking for you.” She turned to look at her friend, trying to register the girl’s mood by reading her expressions. “Hai, that’s true. I was thinking something along those lines earlier.” Kagome let out a long sigh. “I just don’t think that it’s going to happen that way though.” “Why not, still trying to decide on the perfect man? Looks can be deceiving. Just think about Yojin.” “Oh, I know, Sango. Yojin was nothing but eye candy. I got over that quick enough.” “Could have fooled us. You were practically drooling over him, and look what it got you.” “No, you have it wrong.” Kagome turned over on her side and propped her head up on her hand, looking at her friend. “I did think he was nice looking, but something about Inu Yasha that night made my senses go haywire. There’s something about him that I just can’t resist. I just don’t know what it is, but I crave it.” Sango turned to look at Kagome. She couldn’t believe what she was finally hearing. “So, you want Inu Yasha? I thought you were getting tired of the way he was treating you.” “Well, yah. But then he stopped behaving like a damn slave and suddenly began to act like he had some confidence, but not like that vain Yojin. That’s what started me thinking about him. He kept staring at me with those beautiful eyes, like he knew everything about me and wanted me anyway. No, not even that, more like I was already his. I couldn’t think straight, so I got up from the campfire and tried to collect my thoughts. That’s when I felt arms encircling me, and I thought it was Inu Yasha…well, you know the rest.” “That’s the way he used to act around you all the time, back before you lost your memory. I guess with all the confusion and the need to help you regain yourself, he forgot himself as well. You are your own person, Kagome…yet so much a part of him. It’s the same for him.” “Like one ends where the other begins. If this is the way he is, the true him, then he is like the perfect compromise between the way he was acting, and the mystery man.” Kagome giggled. “It’s like someone took the two and mashed them into one body. A delightfully yummy sandwich, somewhere between saint and devil.” Sango caught her breath. She was so close to telling her friend she was completely right. She needed to change the subject before she dropped any kind of hint that would let Kagome in on the whole truth. She sat up once more."Are you okay, though? We have been so worried about you.” Kagome looked up at her friend, who was blocking the sun again. “Yes, I’m fine. I’m just trying to figure out why this always seems to happen.” “What are you talking about?” “Well, I finally decide that I want Inu Yasha, the real Inu Yasha, and he won’t come near me. I know that I’m in heat, and he probably stayed away because of that, but he left as soon as I revived.” “I don’t know about that, but I do know that when we thought you were dead Inu Yasha was outraged. He had murder in his eyes and yet he was devastated. We were all frustrated because we didn’t know how to kill Yojin, but for Inu Yasha, it was more than that. He looked so hurt.” “I wish I knew, Sango, one way or another.” “I know. That’s how I used to feel about the lech. Speaking of which, I have to go find him, he is owed a punishment.” Kagome looked at her friend questioningly, but Sango just laughed. “You’ll understand if you ever put this field to good use.” Sango got up and walked away, back towards the village, laughing. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Kagome was still keeping to herself for the most part, but she had been talking to her friends more. Something always pulled her back to the field Sango had found her in, though. She had gone back once again to relax and think about her situation with Inu Yasha. If he if didn’t appear soon, she might have to go track him down and make him listen to what she had to say. ‘That would be a sight’, she thought. ‘Me, making him listen. Hmph.’ The day was winding down. Soaking up the rays of the sun was just too relaxing, and with all the anxiety she had been having, the lack of demons to fight made this a temptation she couldn’t resist. She was almost asleep when she heard someone walking towards her. She panicked for a brief moment before realizing that she didn’t sense anydanger near her, but she left her eyes closed and waited. He sat down next to her and looked around for just a moment. This really was as peaceful as Sango said it was. No wonder Kagome spent so much time here now. He toyed with the idea of joining her in her nap, but he needed to talk to her and settle things before it was too late. He noticed a flower close to his hand and picked it. He just sat there, looking at the flower. ‘I wonder how she will take the truth’, he thought. ‘Our relationship is like this flower, beautiful and fresh.’ He looked out onto the sea of flowers that were being moved by the gentle breeze. ‘But easily swayed by the wind, and dying fast if notgiven the proper care. Will this flower of mine wilt once the truth is known?’ Kagome was getting impatient. She had thought at first it was Inu Yasha, but she knew that he wouldn’t sit there that long without waking her up. Besides, whoever it was had the smell of freshness, as if they had just come from taking a bath. She almost laughed, thinking that it couldn’t be Inu Yasha. Yah, as if he would do something like that right before coming to her. She managed to suppress her urge, not wanting her unknown visitor to know she was faking her slumber. He took the flower he was holding and lightly touched a soft petal to Kagome’s mouth, letting it trail along her soft, pink lips. The petals kept contact with her skin as he traced the outline of her chin, then allowed the flower to skim along the length of her neck. The sensation caused was a mixture of being seduced and tickled. She couldn’t stand it any longer. She had to know who was driving her insane. She kept her eyes closed, not wanting to ruin the moment, but she spoke to him now. “You had better be the man of my dreams, or you are going to be in so much trouble.” “I don’t know if I’m the man of your dreams, but I hope that I am.” His hand had stopped when he heard her speak, and he let the flower drop now, landing on her chest right where her heart was. She just smiled sweetly, as reality hit her, and slowly opened her eyes. She had been wrong, so wrong! He would do many unlikely things for her, it seemed. “Inu Yasha…”, she began, but was cut off as he put a clawed finger on her bottom lip. His touch sent a delightful shiver thru both of their bodies. He paused again, almost unsure if he wanted to ruin this perfect moment between them. He knew it had to be done, however. “There’s something I have to show you, and you’re probably not going to like it.” Kagome just sat there, a million scenarios going thru her head. She didn’t want him to do, say, or show her anything she wasn’t going to like. She had a feeling that whatever it was would prove the ending to her relationship with him, before it really even started. “Can’t it wait, Inu Yasha? There’s something I need to tell you. I have made a decision. And I want you to know, right now.” The sun was slowly starting to dip behind the trees, saying a farewell to the day as night began to claim its throne. “I’m sorry, Kagome, but this won’t wait, can’t wait…”, he trailed off as the look of astonishment came across her beautiful face. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Oh, another cliff hanger!
