OUR MISSION: The mission of the Chesapeake Community Chorus (C3) is to contribute to Southern Maryland's civic pride, community participation, entertainment and culture through challenging and enjoyable performances of great American popular music for choristers and audiences alike, including people served by community service agencies.

WHO WE ARE and WHAT WE DO: The Chesapeake Community Chorus is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization formed in March of 2002, governed by a Board of Directors of community and chorus members. Aspiring to 30 - 40 volunteer singers, C3 sings the Great American Popular Songbook of the 1920's, 30's, & 40"s for Southern Maryland Communities in jazz & musical theatre arrangements, both a cappella and accompanied by piano, bass, & drums.

The Chesapeake Community Chorus is a vehicle for singers, young & young at heart, to perform this beloved American repertoire. C3 aims to introduce a new generation of young audiences to these timeless songs while evoking powerful memories for those who came of age when this music was new.

The Chesapeake Community Chorus supports local non-profit organizations that provide valuable services to the elderly, people with disabilities, those hospitalized, & others desiring entertaining, educational, & cultural experiences.

OUR COMMUNITY VISION: Choral singing contributes greatly to civic life. The Chesapeake Community Chorus enables members to entertain and enrich the lives of their friends, families, and neighbors, tapping into the one art everyone loves to do together - sing! Our audiences are invited to sing along - a special feature of each concert. Because singing is a communal activity, it is especially relevant today when we increasingly rely on Internet-based communications rather than face-to-face interaction.

Recent studies show a significant decline in civic engagement in our communities. For example, Robert Putnam's work shows that the very existence of choral groups like C3 helps foster America's democratic culture. Putnam's Harvard colleague, Tom Sander, reported the "erosion of social capital in America" and outlined ways to reverse this trend, including choral singing. "Singing in a choir" was also found to promote "social connectedness."

OUR MUSICAL VISION: Chesapeake Community Chorus singers join the millions who carry their early love of singing into adulthood. The C3 provides an unsurpassed opportunity for artistic involvement, to build a choral community, and to create exciting productions. As we work toward a beautiful choral sound, our singers experience satisfaction, contribute to something greater than themselves, and forge enriching friendships. The Chesapeake Community Chorus rehearses rigorously, with good humor and camaraderie, and experiencing musical growth and progress each week. The synergy of our goals of musical excellence and community building infuse the Chesapeake Community Chorus with energy and purpose that we hope makes a significant contribution to Southern Maryland.
