Unknown tracks 1-5. Kattorna -
Kotki (K. Komeda) -
12:56 Obscure soundtrack work by Komeda! The first 5 tracks on the CD are from the 1965 film Kattorna, and they feature 1 track of dialogue, plus 4 tracks of stark modernist jazz, with spare bass, piano, or tenor work -- in a mode that reminds us a bit of Miles Davis score for Louis Malle's Ascenscion Pour L'Echaufaud. The other 5 tracks on the CD are long ones, pulled from 2 different unknown Scandinavian films of the 60s. Despite the obscure origin of the material, the cuts show a great side of Komeda's soundtrack talents -- and they really mix up styles to show us a good range of his talents. The best bit of these sections is a mad little bossa groover, which is presented straight on one track, then in a very long extended version that's interspersed with dialogue and mixed up a bit. A few other tracks from the second film are darker, and have that angular jazz style that reminds us of Komeda's great Astigmatic album!
