Monday morning August 28, 2000 I woke up around 9:00 am and went to the restroom. When I looked I saw some mucous streaked with blood. I called my dr. and he said come in at 12 noon. By the time I got there and he examined me he said "it doesn't look good. you are miscarrying. I'm so sorry". he said they would send me up to labor and delivery. One of the nurses took me up to labor and delivery. They got me in a room and set up. An ob dr. came in and did an examination and said that they couldn't do anything, that Jessica was out too far. They did an ultrasound and our little baby girl was out all the way up to her chest. They gave us two ultrasound pictures of her. She was so cute in there. She was still moving around and her heart was still beating away. They gave me a choice of having her naturally or giving me pitocin to get things on their way. I chose to do it naturally but after about 1 1/2 hours I couldn't take anymore. I was having contractions but they didn't feel strong enough to do anything. I chose to go ahead and have the pitocin. After a few min. the contractions were so strong and so close together. They felt like they were right on top of each other. The nurse gave me a strong medication for pain and she had to keep upping it until she could finally get me halfway comfortable. That was probably about 4:00 pm. About 45 min or so later I felt the urge to push and I got my husband to call for a nurse. I told her I think something is happening. I have the urge to push. She said go ahead and push. I said isn't a dr. coming in? She said no I will stay here. I started pushing and about 2 or 3 min. later Jessica Danielle Andrews was born at 5:04 pm. . I kept asking what she looked like and neither my husband nor the nurse would say anything. The nurse asked my husband if he wanted to cut the cord and he did. The nurse handed her to him. He held her for a minute and then handed her to me. She was so beautiful, but very tiny. She fit in the palm of my hand. She weighed 9 1/2 ounces and was 8 3/4 inches long. I looked at every little inch of her. Her tiny little hands and feet. She had all ten toes and all ten fingers. She was so perfect. We got to have her with us until about 10:30 pm or so and the nurse came and got her. The next morning the nurse said we could have her with us whenever I got ready. After I ate breakfast I got the nurse to bring her back in and we got to have her with us again until about 11:30 or so, and then they said we have to take her now. We had to say goodbye. That was the hardest thing I have ever done was saying goodbye to our little girl. I barely could go out the door when it was time for me to be discharged. It really hurt me to leave her at the hospital. ©2000 In Memorial Graphics and Web Design Services Brie Godinez, Webmistress This page was last updated on: 10/04/00 09:39 PM
