In a modest ceremony at Bridgeport, Alabama on June 3, 2000, the mixed remains of several unknown Civil War combatants were interred in a common grave.  These remains are believed to be from the graveyard of a Union field hospital that was once located at Bridgeport.  Although all of the Union remains were believed moved to the National Cemetery at Chattanooga after the War, for whatever reason some were overlooked. The mixed remains are a combination of Union Soldiers, Colored Union Soldiers, Confederate Soldiers, and/or supporting troops.  It is entirely possible, as was discussed at the ceremony, that some of the remains could be those of the Vidette Cavalry.

The Flag draped casket during the memorial ceremony.
Confederate re-enactors and philanthropic locals acted as the honor guard.

Above is one of the two monuments to be placed at the gravesite.
The gravesite is about two hundred feet from where the bones were discovered.

In the foreground can be seen the area where the bones were found.
In the background is the local high school football field.
