Just as it is getting warmer and we should be getting more local produce the cherry tomatoes they used to sell for the exorbitant price of $4 have gone up to $5 for two handfuls. Where does the government get their 2% inflation? But of course that does not include the “volatile” food and energy prices nor the prices of houses. Sooner or later they will have to acknowledge that inflation is in double digits – better start hoarding gold.
Other than that April was a pretty good month.

We kicked it off with a Louisiana style cookout at the clubhouse of our local racket club. More crawfish than anybody could eat. The clubhouse pool was completely resurfaced and should be opening in May – as it becomes hotter I may opt for an evening swim rather than an evening walk.
One of the nicer aspects of being a petroleum geologist is that I get to go on at least one field trip every year. This year I chose South Carolina coast region. Even though temperatures were unseasonably low and we had some pretty strong winds first few days it was a fabulous week.
We got to visit coastal swamps (still almost free of mosquitoes – will be a different story in May),
we walked up and down beaches of the different barrier islands and waded through tidal marshes and got muddy on tidal flats.
There was usually a little bit of time left over each day to explore Charleston and hear stories from the War of Northern Aggression. The only hard thing was going back to the office.
