Philip Hunt, a farmer, settled in the "Little
Chatham" section of
South Chatham between 1800 and 1810. In the early days this area was
known as the Hunt neighborhood.

(1) JAMES P. STEVENS FARRINGTON HUNT, son of Philip & Apphia, b. 28
January 1807, in Chatham. Residing in Chatham in 1840.
(2) BETSEY STEVENS HUNT, dau. of Philip & Apphia, b. 27 June 1809, in
Chatham; m. recorded in Chatham, 6 May 1835, to HAZEN FROST of Fryeburg,
ME. No further information.
(3) JOHN FARRINGTON HUNT, son of Philip & Apphia, b. 14 Feb. 1812, in
Chatham; d. 21 August 1844 (age 32 yrs, 6 mos); buried at South Chatham
Cem.
(4) ANNA PERKINS HUNT, dau. of Philip & Apphia, b. 19 May 1814, in
Chatham; d. 26 August 1887, probably in Lovell, ME; buried with husband
at Wood Cem., Lovell; m. probably about 1841, ZALMON PRAY (b. 1818; d.
31
Jan. 1892), probably son of Charles and Hannah Pray of Lovell. He was a
farmer and brick mason, and they resided in Lovell. Five children, as
follows:
(4.1) SUSAN F. PRAY, dau. of Zalmon & Anna (Hunt) Pray, b. 1842; d. 8
Sept. 1843; buried with parents at Wood Cem., Lovell, ME.
(4.2) JAMES W. PRAY, son of Zalmon & Anna (Hunt) Pray, b. 1843; d. 29
Feb. 1864; buried with parents at Wood Cem., Lovell, ME.
(4.3) MARY FRANCES PRAY, dau. of Zalmon & Anna (Hunt) Pray, b. 22 Dec.
1845; d. 13 June 1918; buried with parents at Wood Cem., Lovell, ME.;
unmarried in 1900 census of Lovell; gravestone indicates she may have
married a Hunt.

(4.5) LILLIAN A. PRAY, dau. of Zalmon & Anna (Hunt) Pray, b. 21 July
1856; d. 3 Sept. 1925; buried with parents at Wood Cem., Lovell, ME.;
living, unmarried, with her sister Mary in Lovell census of 1900.
(5) ABRAHAM PERKINS HUNT, son of Philip & Apphia, b. 17 Sept. 1816, in
Chatham; d. 23 Nov. 1845; buried in parents' lot at South Chatham Cem.;
m., 9 May 1842, MARY EMERSON (b. 12 Feb. 1822, in Chatham; d. 4 Dec.
1870; buried in Newton, MA), dau. of Daniel & Lydia (Whitford) Emerson
of
Chatham. Abraham and Mary had no children. Mary m. (2nd), 17 Aug.
1852,
in Newton, MA, James N. Trowbridge, and they had two children (Marietta
and James William Trowbridge), who lived with their uncle, William D.
Emerson, in Stow, ME, after the death of their mother.
(6) ? RACHAEL P. HUNT, probably dau. of Philip & Apphia, b. 1819,
probably in Chatham; d. 16 June 1869, probably in Lovell, ME; buried
with
husband at Wood Cem., Lovell; m. ASA PRAY (b. 23 July 1820; d. 15 June
1898), probably son of Charles & Hannah Pray of Lovell. He was a
farmer,
and they resided first in Stow, ME, then in Lovell. Three children, as
follows:
(6.1) GEORGE H. PRAY, son of Asa & Rachael (Hunt) Pray, b. about 1847,
in Massachusetts.
(6.2) HENRIETTA W. PRAY, dau. of Asa & Rachael (Hunt) Pray, b. 1848;

1876, as his second wife, AMOS E. McALASTER (b. 7 July 1831, in
Stoneham,
ME; d. 19 March 1905, in W. Lovell; buried at W. Lovell Cem.), son of
John & Lydia (Evans) McAlaster. No children.
