JONATHAN[2] HARDY (David[1]) was born in Fryeburg, Maine, April 26, 1774. He married, in Fryeburg, July 5, 1798, Abigail Walker. She was born in Fryeburg, December 11, 1779, the daughter of Samuel and Hannah (Hazeltine) Walker. According to the "History of Chatham, N. H." by Mitchell, Davis, and Daggett, (http://www.geocities.com/chathamnh/history.html) "The farms of Jona. hardy and Edward Shirley were sevred from Conway and annexed to Chatham June 26, 1823." Abigail died September 22, 1824 and Jonathan died June 10, 1825. They are buried in the West Fryeburg Cemetery. |

CAPT. PETER W.[3] HARDY (Jonathan[2], David[1]) was born in Fryeburg, Maine, November 23, 1798. He married, first, about 1828, Barbara Shirley. She was born in Fryeburg, July 22, 1806, the daughter of Edward Shirley and Martha Thompson. Peter and Barbara settled in Chatham, New Hampshire, where their six children were born. Barbara died July 8, 1843. Peter married, second, Mary (Abbott) Farrington, widow of John Farrington. She was born March 6, 1803, the daughter of Simeon Abbott and Mary Day of Stow, Maine. Following this marriage Peter and his children moved to Stow, just across the state line from Chatham, New Hampshire, to the farm which had previously belonged to Mary's brother Simeon Abbott, Jr. In the U.S. Census of 1850 and again in 1860 the family is listed as living in Stow. Mary died June 19, 1866 and is buried with her first husband in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Stow, Maine. Peter married, third, in South Paris, June 3, 1869, Marcella (Swift) Curtis, widow of William Curtis. She was born in Paris February 28, 1812, the daughter of Caleb Swift and Phebe Waterman. Capt. Peter Hardy died in Paris, Maine, March 25, 1872. He is buried beside his first wife in the West Fryeburg Cemetery. Marcella died in 1880. |

CHARLES HYDE[4] HARDY (Capt. Peter[3], Jonathan[2], David[1]) was born in Chatham, New Hampshire, July 29, 1842. He moved to Stow, Maine with his father after his father's marriage to Mary Farrington. Charles appears to have had a liason, possibly in either Stow or Fryeburg, Maine, about 1863, with a Lodusca E. (Lodusea, Leederly) Pride, from which a son was born. Charles was a blacksmith and relocated to southern New Hampshire, probably about 1864 or 1865. In West Lebanon, New Hampshire, on March 1, 1865, Charles enlisted for service in the Civil War and was subsequently mustered out in Savannah, Georgia, on July 8, 1865. He was living in Harrisville, a village then within the town of Dublin, New Hampshire, when he married, second(?), September 4, 1867, Frances Elizabeth Farwell. She was born in Dublin, New Hampshire, December 26, 1843, the daughter of Samuel Farwell and Lucinda Scripture. At some point prior to 1870, Charles E. Hardy, his son by Lodusca Pride, was taken into the household. |

The name Charles H. Hardy appears on the Dublin voting lists for 1867, 1868, and 1870. For the 1870 census, there are three families listed for the same household in Dublin, New Hampshire; Lucinda Farwell (widow to Samuel) with her 30 year old daughter Josephine; Charles H. Hardy with his wife Frances and two children, Charles E. and Fred E. Hardy; and Henry J. Farwell (brother to Frances) with his wife, Angeline, and child Jonnie. It was in 1870 that Harrisville was incorporated as its own town, taking over a portion of what had been a part of Dublin. |

By 1880, Charles H. and Frances E. Hardy were living in Haverhill, Mass. where two of his brothers had also established businesses. Charles was listed in the Haverhill City Directory as a blacksmith at a shop called Ayers and Hardy. Charles died in Haverhill, April 4, 1884. Frances was still living in Haverhill as late as 1896, but by 1900 she and her son, Fred, were again living in Harrisville, New Hampshire. She died in Marlborough, N.H., February 10, 1937. |

Sometime betweeen 1865 and 1870 Charles began living with his father and stepn Park Avenue, in Worcester. Charles died in Worcester, January 19, 1932. Alice died in Auburn, Mass., February 25, 1949. |
