Mini-Bash

by Sogipo

The second Mini Bash took place at Sogi's in late September/early October of 2006.

Kay was the first to arrive on Saturday, September 23 in the afternoon. Daughter Diane went to Green Bay to pick her up at the airport. AlleyKat arrived sometime after Kay, driving from lower Michigan. LaBrat came into Green Bay at 7:54 P.M. on October 3 and son Jeff went there to get her.

In carrying in her luggage, he accidently (?) tipped over what I think was a 2 ton kitchen stool which landed on Sogi's toe, breaking it. Didn't hurt much but came in handy when there was work to be done, all I had to do was put on my sad face and I was excused from cooking or cleaning up or anything else they could think up.

We had asked for a description of clothing being worn as, although Kay and AlleyKat had been here for the time of the first mini bash, LaBrat and Marge had not, and at the airport whoever went to pick them up had to have some idea of what they looked like.

LaBrat said she would be wearing light blue slacks with black shirt and magenta jacket. Marge would be wearing beige slacks and jacket with orange shirt and hat. It may have been AlleyKat who picked up Marge, although my befuddled brain doesn't always remember details, but someone brought her here.

I am on a corner and Kay and LaBat asked if it was OK for them to sit next to the sidewalk which was almost next to the street, in their jammies and robes and wave to the natives riding past. I gave permission as I didn't think it would bother the natives at all.

I had an old outdoor divan with cushions which one day seemed to be giving LaBrat a bit of a problem, forcing her to get up, then down again, up, then down. She told us she thought there was something wiggling beneath her when she sat down, but thought it was probably her imagination.

When she moved a little bit, it wiggled again, and when she got up to look she saw it was a poor, scared little mouse that she had sat on. Luckily the cushions were so old that it just blended into them when LaBrat sat on it, and was none the worse for wear, but running off in fear of it's life as soon as LaBrat stood up for the final time.

The computer was in the bedroom where Kay moved in and she often lay down for a nap at any time of the day. One day son Mike came in and wanted to check his email, so unloaded some things that were on the computer chair, onto the bed, sat down and turned on the computer.

For 20 or 30 minutes he read his emails and went to other locations on the internet, only to find to his embarrassment that Kay had been sleeping in the bed all the time and that he had dumped the things from the chair on top of her. She didn't even wake up.

There was a jigsaw puzzle in progress on the card table which we all took turns working on, and for entertainment, one day they weighed Pretty Boy, my tomcat. He weighed in at 22 pounds.

On my birthday I came into the kitchen to find a table full of gifts and smiling faces all around. What a complete surprise! Frango had also come down from upper Michigan for the party, and a few days earlier Momyd and her husband had also stopped bye. The first gift handed to me was from Kay........ surprise of surprises, it was a pale green tutu. Everyone had outdone themselves and surprised the heck out of me to give me a great party.

The phone rang and when I answered, someone asked, "Are you eating the cheesecake?" I said I didn't have a cheesecake and asked who the heck I was talking to. It was bigdaddi, and he told me to look around, there must be a cheesecake there.

Unknown to me, at this time Kay was out in front of the house in her night clothes, trying to flag down the Fedex driver so she could get her hands on the cheesecake and hide it. After she convinced him she was no maniac, she took the cheesecake, got down on her hands and knees and shoved it under a bush.

At this time AlleyKat was trying to get me to go someplace with her and I wasn't cooperating, but eventually she convinced me to go with her, don't remember where, and the others took the opportunity to put the cheesecake in my freezer until Diane came and took it to her house. It was delicious, after I finally got my hands on it.

Everyone wanted to see me in the tutu, so I went into the bathroom to change. They thought I was going to slide the tutu over my clothes, but unknown to them, I took off my jogging suit and slid into the mostly net tutu.

Diane kept asking if I was OK, and I kept answering that I sure was. When I finally came into the kitchen everyone nearly doubled up in hysterics, and we spent the next 10 minutes laughing hard enough to wake the whole neighborhood, had it been middle of the night.

Diane went home and came back toting several long skirts that she had bought at St. Vinnies for her school kids, and each gal had to put on one of the skirts. I had enough trouble trying to hold down the net tutu and look like a worn out little old lady..... but then, that's what I am.

I hope everyone had a blast, I know I did, and do hope it's not the last mini bash.

All of the chatters left about October 10 or 11, AlleyKat took the last departee to Green Bay and then came back to spend her last night here, and finishing a jigsaw puzzle that she just couldn't leave unfinished.
