Have you ever spent the night alone in a big house, listening to all the noises available to you, a door closing, a window opening, a step on the stairs? Thankfully you find that the door closing was a cat jumping down from someplace he or she wasn't supposed to be, the window opening was a loose lawn chair, the step on the stair 2 cats playing tag all over the house.

      As a certified insomniac, I often roam at night, too. One night, bleary-eyed, I decided to go into the laundry room and fold clothes that were in the dryer. This led from kitchen to back entry, turn left and enter laundry room. Clothes folded, leave laundry room, enter back entry, turn right, open door to kitchen and enter.

      I could have gone out the back door to the garage, which wouldn't have done me any good because the keys to the car were hanging in their hook in the kitchen.

      Finally a small voice began to talk to me, and the first question was, "Sogipo, how many times have you opened this door to the kitchen?"

      "Zillions and zillions I suppose."

      "Think about it, now, what seems to be different this time?"

      "Don't know, person, but the harder I pull, the more I can't open the darn door. Someone is on the other side holding it with all his might."

      "Are you sure you're doing it right?"

      "How can you open a door wrong.......... duh?"

      "Give it some thought, please."

      "The only thought I have is that SOMEONE is on the other side."

      "Has the door always opened to this side, Sogipo?"

      I thought about this.

      "Try turning the knob and PUSHING, idiot!"

      Interesting thought......................

      Tentatively I turned the knob and pushed.

      Door opened and I stepped into the kitchen, greeted by 2 confused cats.

      Have put big sign on door, saying, "DO NOT PULL THIS DOOR, PUSH IT!"
