They're in Shane's garage after school.
His mother pokes her head in,
to be sure nothing funny's going on.
There are girls in here.
The girls sit on folding metal chairs.
They hold the guys' leather jackets.
Shane wraps a blue bandanna
over his blond head. He plays drums,
but he really doesn't sweat that much.
Mike's on bass. He wears glasses,
but they don't mar his looks.
He has gorgeous wrists.
Denny's got acne scars and fuzzy hair.
But he's the one with long fingers,
musician's hands. He plays guitar.
There is no singer yet.
The break into "The Trooper."
Denny's guitar jumps in front.
Shane and Mike plunk just behind.
Mike breaks a string halfway through,
but the girls think it's good.
The band has practiced
for this practice, for the girls.
There is no doubt
they will be stars.
