Description:
Anyone who is familiar with the Yevaanavi would be surprised that Cahnor is one. While most Yevvanavi are rather ethereal creatures, Cahnor is of the more earthy type. Even in the varied world of the Nexus, Cahnor is something of an oddity. From his green furred skin to his tailess rump, he is really one of a kind. Long grey horns adorn the crest of Cahnor's skull, swirling up and out of the short dull fur, which covers his entire body. His wings are short and wide, the emerald green membranes covered by a layer of long feathers. And though he looks a bit unbalanced without the long tail common to Nexus dragons, Cahnor's well-toned body and flexible limbs allow him a sort of unmovable quality. All it takes is a single look… for it is easy to see that Cahnor is a strange and mysterious dragon...
Personality:
Much like his appearance, Cahnor's personality is rather strange, though it is impossible to tell whether it is natural to his kind or due to his own life experience. As a hatchling, Cahnor was a playful and sort of clumsy dragon. His curiosity was only marred by his tendency for quick and needless worry. He was happiest when Manes was with him, to guide him and get him out of whatever trouble he got himself into. Where Cahnor treated most with passing disdain, Manes received only his adoration and kindness, for from the first Cahnor loved his bond.
Whatever friendliness and happiness Cahnor had in his youth, however, melted away when Manes and he were taken in by the Yevaanavi. Cahnor felt betrayed by Manes when she allowed her new duties to consume her, and the constant feelings of abandonment tormented and changed him. He recoiled from the world, shut himself in, and his tendency towards rudeness became an expectation. For the most part, Cahnor just wants to be left alone, and he isn't afraid to make that clear to anyone that has doubts. Though he really has no friends among the Yevaanavi, Cahnor does have a very prominent soft spot for young dragons. Though the reason for this is unclear, the change that occurs in him when he is around younglings is very apparent. Young Yevaanavi seem to gravitate towards the protective aura that Cahnor gives off, and his gentleness and sweetness with them only encourages them to stay close to him. Relations end abruptly, however, once Cahnor has deemed his charges old enough to be on their own. When this happens the shift in his personality is abrupt and sometimes painful for the unsuspecting. From and warm and loving father figure, Cahnor becomes a distant and often angry creature, whose sudden shift invariably forces his charges to leave him and set out on their own. Though he is a capable and essentially good-hearted dragon, Cahnor has successfully extracted himself from the social world. Even Manes, once the center of his world, is now little more to Cahnor than a painful memory. And to most, he is simply to be left alone... History:
Cahnor made his first appearance in the Nexus at the hatching of Darkling Dawn's 38th Clutch. However his unhatched egg was not in the nest of the hatching dragons, but with the candidates. No one at Darkling Dawn admitted to having brought him, and his origins remain a mystery. Whether or not he knows where he came from is anyone's guess, but he is certainly aware that he doesn't really seem to belong in the Nexus and who knows where Cahnor would have ended up had he not bonded with Manes... For better or worse, as soon as he hatched Cahnor let it be known that Manes was his own. To the little dragonet, the connection he had with his bond meant everything. Manes was the only family that he needed... he loved her more than anything else in the world, she was his adventure, his bravery... As long as Cahnor could be with his bond then everything was all right; it was Manes who led Cahnor to Jhiirsai, who stilled his unvoiced fears about traveling to the strange world, and it was Manes who warmed his heart on lonely nights.
It was also Manes who brought about the end of Cahnor's childhood, and his only happiness. Though he was never meant to be a Yevaanavi, Cahnor gave up his own dreams at the young age, when Manes was chosen by the clan. He couldn't bear to see her stiffled, not after all that she had done for him. He was willing to sacrifice for her sake... and that is what he did... Manes was quickly taken up by the Yevaanavi ways, and shortly after, she silently let Cahnor know that he no longer had a place in her world. She left her bond behind... and that is where Cahnor stayed. He waited for her for days, weeks, months... years... and slowly her betrayal ate away at him until hope abandoned him completely. He remained with the Yevaanavi because he felt he had no other place to go. Cahnor did the jobs they gave him, keeping the gate between Jhiirsai and Quxaan, caring for the younglings which seemed to so adore him... but the fires of his youth seemed all but drowned. At his lowest point, the Yevaanavi finally made an effort to save their outcast... Manes was called in from the dark fields of Quxaan and under the pretext of a sponsoring mission, the pair were sent off together. However, if anything, seeing Manes again seemed only to drive Cahnor deeper into his hole. It is hard to say what the future holds for him now. Original Stats:
Name: Cahnor | Race: Dragon, Unknown Breed Gender: Male Hatching Quote: “But I want to be able to SEE!” Appearance: Cahnor will grow up to be a healthy, medium-sized dragon with strong limbs and a hefty build. His hide is covered by dull green fur, short and wiry to the touch. The stubs on his head will grow into curly, antelope-style horns as he grows. His wings are half-feathered and half-webbed, with the feathers being the same dull green as his hide, and the webbing a bright emerald green. Personality: Cahnor is, to be honest, a bit of a brat who doesn't like to listen to adults. He gets into trouble a lot, this one does, and is rude almost to a fault. He doesn't care much for humans, but gets along well with most of the other dragons. It's unknown where he came from; his egg just appeared on the hatching sands a little bit before the hatching, and none of Darkling Dawn's residents fessed up as responsible. He bonded Manes as soon as he hatched. Bond: White-Grey Manes |
