12.25.01 - New Episode said to Air on Jan. 17th! The Episode "Birthday" has been said to air on Monday, Jan. 17th! Everyone keep your fingers crossed that it will actually air then! I know a lot of you have been going through some -Angel Withdrawls- or at least i know i have! 11.16.01 - Angels Ratings Friday, November 16, 2001 When New Time Slots Go Bad: The Trouble With a New Home By Brian Ford Sullivan If a network announces a time slot change almost two-thirds of the time that translates into a ratings decrease, at least that's the case for this season's newly relocated series. Of the 23 series that changed time slots (or networks) this season only seven of them managed to produce ratings comparable to their old time slots - "Gilmore Girls," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Special Unit 2," "N.Y.P.D. Blue," "Angel," "The Hughleys" and "60 Minutes II." This shouldn't be too much of a surprise though as of the 17 series that saw their ratings drop in their new time slots, seven of those were moves to either Friday or Saturday nights, a guaranteed audience drop. That leaves 10 series that despite staying in competitive time slots (i.e. not Friday or Saturday) have seen their ratings fall noticably. Chief among the offenders is "Temptation Island" which has seen its ratings fall by almost 92% with its move to Thursdays, something FOX thought would capitalize on its high ratings from last season. "Three Sisters" and "What About Joan" both moved back an hour to 8:30/7:30c on Tuesdays and were rewarded with a huge dip in the ratings, the former in no small part due to a lack of "Frasier" being its lead-in. "Popstars" moved from Fridays to Thursdays with a quarter of its viewering leaving with the show, a surprising development considering more people watch television on Thursdays than Fridays. "Roswell," in its third time slot in as many years, saw its ratings decrease for the first time - a noticeable 25.94%. With "Angel" actually building on "Roswell's" Monday numbers and "Gilmore Girls" and "Smallville" posting record gains on Tuesdays, the WB looks like an absolute genius in hindsight as many thought the moves would alienate viewers. Long running comedies "Spin City" and "Dharma & Greg" felt the pain in their new time slots as without "Millionaire" as lead-ins the series both fell substantially from their old numbers, the latter especially. Rounding out the group are "Nikki" and "Third Watch" who's numbers have dipped since moving to different hours on the same night. So without further blathering on my part, here's the complete list: largest inrease in the ratings in a new time slot 1. +32.02% - "Gilmore Girls" (WB) 2. +21.00% - "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (UPN) 3. +20.13% - "Special Unit 2" (UPN) 4. +11.91% - "N.Y.P.D.
